Based on solvothermal synthesis, self-assembly of the heptadentate 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(nicotinoylhydrazone) Schiff base ligand (H2L) and Zn(II) and/or Cd(II) salts has led to the formation of three homometallic [CdL]n (1), {[CdL]∙0.5dmf∙H2O}n (2) and {[ZnL]∙0.5dmf∙1.5H2O}n (3), as well as two heterometallic {[Zn0.75Cd1.25L2]∙dmf∙0.5H2O}n (4) and {[MnZnL2]∙dmf∙3H2O}n coordination polymers. Compound 1 represents a 1D chain, whereas 2–5 are isostructural and isomorphous two-dimensional structures. The entire series was characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and emission measurements. 2D coordination polymers accommodate water and dmf molecules in their cage-shaped interlayer spaces, which are released when the samples are heated. Thus, three solvated crystals were degassed at two temperatures and their photoluminescent and adsorption–desorption properties were recorded in order to validate this assumption. Solvent-free samples reveal an increase in volume pore, adsorption specific surface area and photoluminescence with regard to synthesized crystals.

In recent years, much initial interest and enthusiasm has focused on the self-assembly of coordination polymers due to the aesthetics of their crystalline architectures and their potential applications as new functional materials. As part of an exploration of chiral coordination polymers, a new twofold interpenetrated two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[[tetraaquabis[μ3-(2R,2′R)-2,2′-(benzene-1,4-dicarboxamido)dipropionato-κ5 O,O′:O′′,O′′′:O′′]dicadmium(II)] trihydrate], {[Cd2(C14H14N2O6)2(H2O)4]·3H2O} n , has been synthesized by the reaction of Cd(CH3COO)2·2H2O with the designed ligand (2R,2′R)-2,2′-(benzene-1,4-dicarboxamido)dipropionic acid (H2 L). The compound has been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the crystal structure, each CdII cation binds to three carboxylate groups from two crystallographically independent L 2− dianions. Four carboxylate groups link two crystallographically independent cadmium cations into a 4,4-connected secondary building unit (SBU). The resulting SBUs are extended into a two-dimensional folding sheet via the terephthalamide moiety of the ligand as a spacer, which can be simplified as a (4,4)-connected 4,4L15 net with the point symbol (3.53.62)(32.52.62). In the lattice, two independent folding sheets interpenetrate each other to yield a double-sheet layer. The resulting 2D layers pack in parallel arrays through intermolecular hydrogen bonds and interlayer π–π interactions. The thermal stability and photoluminescence properties of the title compound have been investigated and it exhibits an enhanced fluorescence emission and a longer lifetime compared with free H2 L.

Using a hydrothermal synthesis, the self-assembly of MnII ions and 1,4-bis(1-imidazol-yl)-2,5-dimethyl benzene with two dicarboxylate ligands, 2-nitrobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (2-H2ata) and 5-methylbenzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (5-CH3-H2ip) constructed two interesting coordination polymers: [Mn(2-ata)(bimb)]n (1) and {[Mn(5-CH3-ip)(bimb)1.5]·2H2O}n (2), where bimb refers to 1,4-bis(1-imidazol-yl)-2,5-dimethyl benzene. Their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, and infrared spectroscopy. Complex 1 exhibits a 2-fold interpenetrated pcu net. Complex 2 shows an unusual polycatenated 2D+2D→3D framework. In addition, the solid-state photoluminescent properties of 1 and 2 were investigated at room temperature.

Three new coordination polymers, {[Ln(cbb)(Hcbb)(DMF)·H2O]n, Ln=Sm (1), Eu (2), Tb(3), H2cbb=2-(4-carboxybenzyloxy) benzoic acid, DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide}, have been synthesised by a solvothermal reaction and structurally characterised by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetry analysis, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The results of single-crystal X-ray diffraction indicate that the coordination polymers 1–3 are isostructural, belong to a triclinic system, space group P-1, and show 1D chain structures through the H2cbb ligands connecting adjacent lanthanide ions. In addition, the fluorescence properties of polymers 1–3 were also investigated.

Two chain-like coordination polymers, namely, {[Zn(saes)(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)]·H2O}n (1) and {[Cd (Hsaes)2(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)2]·2H2O}n (2), where H2saes=2-(2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)ethanesulfonic acid and 4,4'-bipy=4,4'-bipyridine, have been synthesized and characterized by singlecrystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental, thermogravimetric and photoluminescence analysis. X-Ray diffraction analyses indicate that 1and 2display octahedral metal centers with N3O3 and N2O4 donor sets, respectively. The Schiff base serves as a common N,O'-tridentate ligand in 1, and as a unique O-monodentate ligand in 2. In the crystal, both 1and 2form a 3D supramolecular architecture by O-H···O, C-H···O interactions or π···π stacking. The thermal and solid-state photoluminescence properties of both complexes have been investigated

Reaction of a methanolic copper(II) acetate solution with tetrazolyl enol derivatives 2a or 2b leads to the formation of the corresponding lD-coordination polymer 1∞[CuL2] 3a and pseudo 1D-coordination polymer [CuL2]2 3b, respectively. On the contrary, reaction of 2c with methanolic copper(II) acetate solution yields OH-bridged 1D-coordination polymer 1∞[CuL2(MeOH)2 3c. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction of the supramolecular species 3 established unequivocally the structures of the stairlike coordination compounds. Reaction of a methanolic copper(II) acetate solution with amidotetrazole derivative 6 leads to the formation of the lD-coordination polymer 1∞ [CuL2] 7. The structure of 7 has been established by X-ray structure analysis

In coordination chemistry and crystal engineering, many factors influence the construction of coordination polymers and the final frameworks depend greatly on the organic ligands used. The diverse coordination modes of N-donor ligands have been employed to assemble metal–organic frameworks. Carboxylic acid ligands can deprotonate completely or partially when bonding to metal ions and can also act as donors or acceptors of hydrogen bonds; they are thus good candidates for the construction of supramolecular architectures. We synthesized under reflux or hydrothermal conditions two new alkaline earth(II) complexes, namely poly[(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)bis(μ-3-phenylprop-2-enoato-κ3O,O′:O)calcium(II)], [Ca(C10H7O2)2(C10H8N2)]n, (1), and poly[(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2N,N′)(μ3-3-phenylprop-2-enoato-κ4O:O,O′:O′)(μ-3-phenylprop-2-enoato-κ3O,O′:O)barium(II)], [Ba(C10H7O2)2(C10H8N2)]n, (2), and characterized them by FT–IR and UV–Vis spectroscopies, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis. Complex (1) features a chain topology of type 2,4 C4, where the Ca atoms are connected by O and N atoms, forming a distorted bicapped trigonal prismatic geometry. Complex (2) displays chains of topology type 2,3,5 C4, where the Ba atom is nine-coordinated by seven O atoms of bridging/chelating carboxylate groups from two cinnamate ligands and by two N atoms from one phenanthroline ligand, forming a distorted tricapped prismatic arrangement. Weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions between phenanthroline ligands are responsible to the formation of a supramolecular three-dimensional network. The thermal decompositions of (1) and (2) in the temperature range 297–1173 K revealed that they both decompose in three steps and transform to the corresponding metal oxide.

Two homochiral coordination polymers based on a chiral reduced Schiff base ligand, namely poly[(μ5-4-{[(NR,1S)-(1-carboxylato-2-phenylethyl)amino]methyl}benzoato)zinc(II)], [Zn(C17H15NO4)]n, (1), and poly[(μ5-4-{[(NR,1S)-(1-carboxylato-2-phenylethyl)amino]methyl}benzoato)cobalt(II)], [Co(C17H15NO4)]n, (2), have been obtained by hydrothermal methods and studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, IR spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. Compounds (1) and (2) are isostructural and crystallize in theP212121space group. Both display a three-dimensional network structure with a one-dimensional channel, with the benzyl group of the ligand directed towards the channel. An investigation of photoluminescence properties shows that compound (1) displays a strong emission in the purple region.

A facial differential pulse voltammetric procedure using a glassy carbon electrode modified with zeolite imidazolate framework-67/graphitic carbon nitride (ZIF-67/g-C3N4) for the diclofenac (DCF) determination is demonstrated. ZIF-67/g-C3N4 with different mass ratios of the components was synthesized in a self-assembly process. The obtained materials were characterized by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDX-mapping, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The peak current varies linearly with the DCF concentration in the range of 0.2–2.2 μmol·L−1 and has a detection limit of 0.071 μmol·L−1. The modified electrode exhibits acceptable repeatability, reproducibility, and selectivity towards DCF. The proposed electrode allows determining DCF in human urine without pretreatment, and the results are comparable with those determined with HPLC.

Abstract This work concerns the preparation of a new micro-mesoporous omega zeolite by hydrothermal route. This method consists of the self-assembly of the omega zeolite precursors with a cethyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide surfactant. Different stages of crystallization were studied in order to determine their impact on the textural and structural properties of the resulting materials. For this, several characterization methods were used such as X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption/desorption, scanning electron microscopy, and Energy-Dispersive X-ray. The results showed that the processing time significantly influences on the crystallinity, porosity and Si/Al ratio of the resulting materials. A specific surface area almost three times greater than the parent zeolite was obtained when using non-hydrothermally treated zeolite precursors. While the precursors prepared hydrothermally for 48 hours or 72 hours essentially lead to the formation of the microporous phase corresponding to the Omega zeolite. These new properties can open new applications of these solids notably in the catalysis for the conversion of bulky molecules and also in the adsorption of organic and organic pollutants.
