With the rapid urban development in China, urbanization has brought more and more pressure on the ecological environment. As one of the most dynamic, open, and innovative regions in China, the eco-environmental issues in the Yangtze River Delta have attracted much attention. This paper takes the central region of the Yangtze River Delta as the research object, through building the index system of urbanization and ecological environment based on statistical data and two new indicators (fraction of vegetation coverage and surface urban heat island intensity) extracted from remote sensing images, uses the Entropy-TOPSIS method to complete the comprehensive assessment, and then analyzes the coupling coordination degree between the urbanization and ecological environment and main obstacle factors. The results showed that the coupling coordination degree in the study region generally shows an upward trend from 0.604 in 2008 to 0.753 in 2017, generally changing from an imbalanced state towards a basically balanced state. However, regional imbalance of urbanization and ecological environment always exists, which is mainly affected by social urbanization, economic urbanization, landscape urbanization, pollution loading and resource consumption. Finally, on the basis of the obstacle factor analysis, some specific suggestions for promoting the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Delta are put forward.

The research on the coupling coordination of regional urbanization is of great significance for achieving sustainable urbanization. Based on the theories of coordinated development, this paper constructs an index system for comprehensive evaluation of the three sub-systems of urbanization (population, economy and land urbanization). Then, the entropy method, coupling coordination degree model and spatial autocorrelation analysis are used to explore the spatiotemporal characteristics of overall and pairwise coordination among population, land and economy urbanization. Finally, the geographic detector model is used to analyze the influencing factors in the urbanization process. The results show that: (1) the levels of population, land and economy urbanization in the Yangtze River Delta have been improved from 2001 to 2016. The overall and pairwise coupling coordination degrees among them also continue to improve and the stage characteristics are presented. (2) The spatial distribution of low-level and high-level coupling coordination cities shows a certain spatial dependence and a Z-shaped pattern, respectively. The spatiotemporal characteristics of pairwise coupling coordination indicate regional imbalance of the urbanization. (3) The overall coupling coordination degree of urbanization has an apparent spatial autocorrelation, with its local spatial correlation patterns dominated by the High–High and Low–Low type agglomeration. Significant differences in local spatial correlation patterns of the pairwise coupling coordination suggest that regional synergy should not be neglected. (4) The economic development level is the main factor influencing the spatiotemporal differentiation of the coupling coordination of urbanization. Location traffic conditions and population agglomeration effect are the second most influencing factors. The evolution mechanisms of coupling coordination of urbanization are affected by factors in change. The findings highlight the importance of dealing with the relationship among population, land and economy in the process of regional urbanization and have implications for promoting the integration of urban agglomerations.

Land use change plays an important role in regional socio-economic development and global environmental change. Whether the land is effectively and efficiently used is not only related to the income level of the people in the surrounding cities but also closely related to the local economy and national economy. Intelligent environment refers to the indoor environment with a variety of data acquisition equipment. Combined with related technologies, the reasoning and analysis of the data can be used to realize the functions of activity identification, data perception, and control. In addition, the Yangtze River Delta is an economically developed area in China, and its land use situation is related to the economic development in the next ten or even decades. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the spatial and temporal pattern of land use in Yangtze River Delta region by remote sensing image technology and GIS in intelligent environment. Based on intelligent environment, this paper uses RS and GIS technology to interpret remote sensing image and map land use in multitemporal coastal zone. The land use dynamic degree model and spatial interpolation method were used to analyze and evaluate the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of land use in the Yangtze River Delta region, and the landscape pattern changes in the Yangtze River Delta region were analyzed and evaluated. This study found that the land use types in the Yangtze River Delta have transformed each other, and the land use change speed is fast, which is inseparable from the rapid economic development. In the future, in addition to maintaining the rapid and stable development of industry, the rational use of limited land resources, the improvement of agricultural development short board, and the improvement of tourism economic benefits will make the economy of the Yangtze River Delta region to a new level.

With the deepening of the development process of regional integration in the Yangtze River Delta, integration and high quality have become the key paths of regional development. On the basis of the panel data of 26 cities in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, from 2008 to 2018, this paper uses a DEA model to calculate the ecological efficiency of each city. On the basis of the visual expression of the population agglomeration degree, with the help of ArcGIS platform, the coupling coordination between the population agglomeration and the ecological efficiency is calculated by using the coupling degree model. The results show the spatiotemporal pattern changes of the coupling coordination degrees of 26 cities in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration between population agglomeration and ecological environment, modeling the impact of urban population growth on the ecological environment. The research provides a scientific basis for determining the goal of urban population development, for coordinating the relationship between populations and the environment in urban development, and for realizing regional sustainable and high-quality development.

Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) pollution in the agricultural soil of China, especially in developed regions such as the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) in eastern China, has received increasing attention. However, there are few studies on the long-term assessment of soil pollution by PTEs over large regions. Therefore, in this study, a meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the current state and temporal trend of PTEs pollution in the agricultural land of the Yangtze River Delta. Based on a review of 118 studies published between 1993 and 2020, the average concentrations of Cd, Hg, As, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Ni were found to be 0.25 mg kg−1, 0.14 mg kg−1, 8.14 mg kg−1, 32.32 mg kg−1, 68.84 mg kg−1, 32.58 mg kg−1, 92.35 mg kg−1, and 29.30 mg kg−1, respectively. Among these elements, only Cd and Hg showed significant accumulation compared with their background values. The eastern Yangtze River Delta showed a relatively high ecological risk due to intensive industrial activities. The contents of Cd, Pb, and Zn in soil showed an increasing trend from 1993 to 2000 and then showed a decreasing trend. The results obtained from this study will provide guidance for the prevention and control of soil pollution in the Yangtze River Delta.
