The European road freight transport statistics (RFTS) result from surveys, which are conducted by several states on the basis of EU-legislation. As there is no strict methodology for the implementation of these surveys, they are slightly different regarding the individual states. This article analyses the additional use of toll data to improve the European RFTS and to impute transport volume and performance of third states affecting the Austrian territory. First, it was attempted to derive journeys as defined in the RFTS from the toll data and assign them to their type of transport. These analyses were very elaborate but showed no satisfying results. The number of journeys from the RFTS data and toll data were too different to allow a reliable interpretation. Hence, this approach was rejected. A comparison of vehicle-kilometres on the higher road network between the two data sources proved to be more successful, as the differences were in an explainable and acceptable scope. Two thirds of them could be derived from methodological reasons regarding the survey in the respective member states and due to missing third states. On the basis of the vehicle-kilometres from the toll data a correction factor for the RFTS results of the individual member states and a procedure for the imputation of third states were developed and applied to publish weighted results.

In this paper, an analysis of the road network and infrastructure of the Bryansk region on the example of the federal highway M-3 "Ukraine" (Kiev highway). The description of the state of road fabric, its length and the number of lanes. Transport-performance of the road network and bridges do not meet the stresses of modern heavy vehicles and traffic. The planned activities of the area is not considered raising technical category road. To improve the region´s economy and the country´s need to carry out the improvement of road infrastructure, taking into account the different methods that will reduce accidents on the roads, increase and accelerate the flow of goods through the region. It proposed a number of measures to enhance the capacity: to improve the quality of road surface with the transfer of the 1st category; adding overlapping areas; the creation of parking areas and service centers for freight transport, and installation of video cameras for control and monitoring of the road.

Road transport plays an essential role in freight transport throughout Europe, therefore, conditions that may hinder seamless operations in this sector require thorough consideration for evidence-based action. Critical amongst these key conditions is how, when, and where truck drivers stop, as a common set of rules strictly regulates their driving times and rest periods, which causes mandatory interruptions in the supply chains. However, approximating reliable estimations of freight traffic flows and road infrastructure usage constitutes a considerable challenge for researchers. This paper presents a robust data processing approach to designate rest area stops and to calculate the pertaining driving and rest times. Drawing on the abundance of navigation information provided by private fleet toll registration services, a comprehensive spatial-temporal truck stop database on all major rest areas along the toll road network in Hungary has been compiled. Based on the assessment and comparison of driving and rest times, driving and parking times have been analysed, including micro-scale analysis of particular rest areas. Both the methods applied and the results achieved can be of strategic interest to better understand truck driving patterns, as well as to develop targeted and cost-effective measures to streamline freight transport operations in other contexts.
