In order to promote Xi’an’s economic development as an export-oriented hub, 7 indicators, including GDP, foreign trade volume, investment volume, passenger transport volume, freight volume, post and telecommunications business income, and the number of industrial enterprises above designated size, are selected to analyze the development of the hub economy through multiple linear regression analysis method. The results show that foreign trade, passenger traffic and post and telecommunications business revenues are significant to the economic development of Xi’an hub. However, the freight volume, investment and the number of enterprises above designated size have not passed the inspection. According to self-organization theory, the countermeasures for Xi’an to develop the hub economy are puts forward.

Abstract The increase in coal production every year has influence the transport volume of coal trains of Kereta Api Logistik Company is getting higher. This increase causes the current number of train unloading equipment to be unable to keep up with this increase and has an impact on the poor performance of train unloading, which is indicated by the unachieved of train’s waiting time target. The coal train unloading system is a very complex system and many uncertainties occur, so the appropriate method to use is discrete event simulation. The simulation model is designed using the Simulation Arena software. The results of the simulation method are 4 alternative scenarios will be selected by the Bonferonni test. Scenario 4 has the highest reduction in train unloading operating time, which is 30.7%. The results of this study recommend the addition of a tool with a combination of 1 unit of Gantry Crane integrated with coal traveling hopper and 5 units of Dump Truck and for management, this recommendation can reduce high overtime costs every month and increase coal transport capacity so that coal transport profits will increase.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, is a new line directly connecting Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan by rail, and it became operational in 2017. In fact, the BTK railway connects not only these three countries, but also Central Asia with the Caspian Sea passage in the east, and Europe via Turkey with the Marmaray project in the west. The line, which has an annual freight carrying capacity of 6.5 million tons, has carried approximately 400 thousand tons of freight in 2020. The BTK railway line is also an alternative to the One Belt One Road project between China and Europe. Considering this point, it is seen that the amount of freight transported is not at the intended level, despite the current capacity. In this study, BTK railway, which is likely to act as a lever for increasing the trade volume between the countries of the region, has been analyzed in terms of freight transportation. In the first part, the features of the BTK railway are explained. In the second part, the foreign trade structure of the countries in the region is presented. In the third part, the freight transported on the BTK railway are examined. In the last section, suggestions are presented to increase the current transport volume.

This study investigates the coherency of volume transport between Halmahera throughflow and current major system in the western equatorial Pacific Ocean (Mindanao Current – MC, New Guinea Coastal/Under Current – NGCC/NGCUC, and North Equatorial Counter Current – NECC). The validated daily ocean general circulation model datasets of INDESO (2010-2014) were used in this study. The results showed that the estimated average transport volume was 25.6 Sv flowing southward through MC, 34.5 Sv flowing eastward through NECC, 18.3 Sv flowing northwestward through NGCC/NGCUC, and 2.5 Sv flowing southward through the Halmahera Sea. The variability of volume transport was dominated by intraseasonal, semiannual, and annual time-scales. The increased transport of NECC corresponded to the intensification of MC and NGCC/NGCUC transports. NGCC/ NGCUC significantly controlled the South Pacific water inflow into the Halmahera Sea because of the positively high correlation between NGCC/NGCUC transport and Halmahera throughflow transport.

In recent years, few water transportation forecasting studies conduct relative to transportation forecasting. As a neglected area, the inland waterway volume prediction is an important indicator for investment management and government policymaking. Considering the time-series forecasting, some researchers try to narrow the predicted value interval. However, certain limitations detract from their popularity. For instance, if the prediction length is more than ten, the result would not be acceptable. Therefore, we propose a hybrid model that combines both of their unique properties’ advantages to provide more accurate traffic volume forecasts. Also, the forecasting process will be more straightforward. The empirical results present the proposed model and improve the long-term predictive accuracy at waterway traffic volume.

AbstractIn many small and medium-sized businesses in rural–urban areas, delivery services to and from customers, suppliers, and distributed locations are required regularly. In contrast to purely urban commercial centres, the distances here are larger. The aim of this paper is to identify opportunities for substituting combustion-engine logistics with lightweight electric commercial vehicles and the limitations thereto, describing an energy efficiency comparison and improvement process for a defined logistics application. Thus, the area of Heilbronn-Franconia and its transport conditions are presented as examples to compare the use case to standard driving cycles. Then the logistic requirements of Heilbronn UAS (University of Applied Science) locations and the available vehicles as well as further electric vehicle options are depicted. Options are discussed for the additional external payload in search of transport volume optimisation without increasing the vehicle floor space. To this end, simulation models are developed for the aerodynamic examination of the enlarged vehicle body and for determining energy consumption. Consumption and range calculation lead to vehicle concept recommendations. These research activities can contribute to the transformation of commercial electro mobility in rural and urban areas in many parts of Germany and Europe.

With the advent of e-commerce the logistics industry experienced a new never before seen high. Logistics is a great opportunity for service innovations and business growth in this time and age. This research study compared Thai and Indonesian logistics entrepreneurs in various dimensions including: customer satisfaction, service guarantee, service blueprint, pay by installment, product testing trial and the offering of additional services. Logistics has become a service industry with a service mind that follows a service blueprint. Those who do not adjust to the demands of the market and focus on customer satisfaction are left behind and miss out on the business growth opportunity. Indonesian logistics services are still reaching back to their colonial heritage and have to regroup and refocus while Thailand appears to be ahead of the game; even so Indonesia may have a greater transport volume in terms of export and ocean cargo. Thailand embraces the demand for new domestic logistic services like Grab and companies like Kerry carry more than their fare share focusing on warranties and guaranties something new in an industry and country who usually passes on the blame whenever they can. But in this case with logistics the innovative companies take responsibility. Keywords: business growth; entrepreneurs; logistics; service innovation
