The paper considers the peculiarities of the SCADA (energy infrastructure management system in the railway infrastructure), as well as issues of the overall dependability in the corporate infrastructure, which is the aim of the study. The study, based on the accepted structure and values of the parameters, examines what depends on and how the readiness factor of a SCADA system changes when the recovery intensity changes and at a fixed failure rate. The results show that with increasing recovery intensity, the readiness factors of the telecommunications network and SCADA system thus defined increase, while reducing the downtime. For a more in-depth study of the overall reliability of the SCADA system, it is necessary to set specific normatively accepted dependability parameters of all connected elements, as well as a real set structure. Based on the fact that with backup resources provided, a defined dependability of the system can be ensured at preset values of the reliability parameters of its components and the backup structure; the opposite problem can also be solved. The proposed approach for studying the reliable behavior of the SCADA system within the corporate infrastructure can be noted as a contribution of the present work and conclusions are made for the practical use of the results.

Road safety is the crisis condition in developing countries such as Indonesia. Based on 2016 data, the dead tolls of road accidents were 26,000, or 10.9 fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants. The majority of victims was between 15 and 29 years old (IRSMS, 2016). This condition shows the human capital lost caused by many dead prematurely on road. The Long Term National Road Safety Plan (RUNK) declareted in 2011 has the main goal is reducing road fatalities by 50% and 80% in 2020 and 2035 respectively. Indonesia National Police (INP) has the main role to coordinate and realize safer road users in the RUNK. Integrated Road Safety Management System (IRSMS) is the road accident data- based application that was developed by INP and it must be the evidence based for decision policies and development action plan activities. Establishment of Traffic Accident Research Centre (TARC) has the main objective to sinergising Indonesia traffic police with academia and researcher to carry out in depth study as well as to develop programmes that able both structural and cultural to construct safety concern society. INP understands that enforcement program solely cannot solve road safety problem. It recognizes that achievement is not possible without understanding the problems and incorporation with all stakeholders in road safety.

The jet pipe servo valve is widely used in the military fields of aviation and ship, whose reliability has obvious randomness and dynamic. However, existing methods are either having complicated theory or analyzing static reliability. Based on the generalized stochastic petri nets (GSPN) theory and the collected basic failure modes and failure rate data of jet pipe servo valve, this paper proposes a novel modeling and simulating method for system’s dynamic behavior analysis. In this method, the dynamic reliability model considering failure’s random and repair is established and is simulated using GSPN software. Then, the steady state probability of servo valve is calculated, which is compared with the value calculated by Markov method. Finally, the dynamic reliability parameters of jet pipe servo valve are calculated using collected failure rate data and different repair rate data. Results show the probability that the maximum error between methods of GSPN and Markov is 2.07%, the optimal repair rate set is less than 1.71µi, and also the dynamic reliability parameters become better with increasing simulation time because of failure’s recovery. Therefore, research methods and results based on GSPN are concise and realistic, which can be used for failure’s qualitative forecast and dynamic reliability’s quantitative calculation of similar complicated system.

Rapidly developing information and telecommunication technologies and their platforms in the late 20th Century helped improve urban infrastructure management and influenced quality of life. Telecommunication technologies make it possible for people to deliver text, audio and video material using wired, wireless or fiber-optic networks. Technologies convergence amongst these digital devices continues to create new ways in which the information and telecommunication technologies are used. The 21st Century is an era where information has converged, in which people are able to access a variety of services, including internet and location based services, through multi-functional devices such as mobile phones. This chapter discusses the recent developments in telecommunication networks and trends in convergence technologies, their implications for urban infrastructure planning, and for the quality of life of urban residents.

Currently one of the most important problems facing biobanking specialists is the standardization of biobanks operation. Close attention is paid to this issue by international biobanking organizations, such as ISBER and BBMRI-ERIC, which develop regulatory documentation in this area. The article provides examples of standardization tools - implementation of the ISO 9001 quality standard and ISBER Best Practices. General information about the development, scope, and structure of the ISO 20387 standard is provided. The standard does not provide ready-made solutions and does not contain specific requirements for storage temperature or biosamples processing in biobanks, allowing each biobank to adapt its own management system to existing conditions and needs. The standard contains requirements for both the organization of the biobanking and the supporting processes - personnel competence; requirements for biological safety; infrastructure management, including equipment used by the biobank, environmental parameters that affect the storage of biomaterial. The standard contains requirements for the quality management system of biobank, as a necessary element of the organization of any biorepository. At the initiative of the Russian National Association of biobanks and biobanking specialists (NASBIO), development of the Russian standard GOST R ISO 20387 «Biotechnology. Collection and storage of biological samples in biobanks. General requirements» is included in the plan of the National Standardization Program for 2020 by order of Rosstandart No. 2612 of 11/01/2019. Implementing quality standards is a long and painstaking process that requires the involvement of all employees and certain resources. However, the effectiveness of strict compliance exceeds the cost of developing, implementing and maintaining management systems, as it significantly increases the confidence of researchers in the work of biobanks, guarantees high quality of biospecimens and associated data, and creates opportunities for cooperation, both at the national and international level, based on the application of common quality standards in the work.

Broken rails are the most common cause of severe freight-train derailments on American railroads. Reducing the occurrence of broken-rail-caused derailments is an important safety objective for the railroad industry. The current practice is to periodically inspect rails using non-destructive technologies such as ultrasonic inspection. Determining the optimal rail defect inspection frequency is a critical decision in railway infrastructure management. There is a seasonal variation in the occurrence of broken rails that result in train derailments. This paper quantifies the effect of this seasonal variation on the risk-based optimization of rail inspection frequency. This research can be incorporated into a larger framework of broken rail risk management to improve railroad transportation safety.
