ABSTRACT The virtual planning of dental implants is a technology that brings many benefits to practitioners and patients who undergo a prosthetic rehabilitation. The cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) produces high-resolution images allowing to implant a breakthrough in preoperative planning, making planning more accurate. The virtually guided surgery is a surgery planned based computers in a 3D anatomical model of the patient and transferred to the surgical procedure through guides built especially for this purpose. The objective of this study is to report the current concepts in the literature on virtually guided surgery, emphasizing its applicability, indications and benefits in prosthetic rehabilitation with dental implants. Thus, it was concluded that the technique of guided surgery represents an advance in the field of implantology significantly decreasing errors, bringing good results postoperative and increasing predictability of the results, one technique suitable for various cases. The use of osseointegrated implants has been increasingly widespread in the adult population, however in children there is a certain lack in the literature on the application of this technique. The bone growth and development factor must be well analyzed, and the pediatric dentist must be able to suggest the use of this treatment option for oral rehabilitation, when necessary. This article discusses bone growth and development of the craniofacial region, presents relevant aspects of the literature and discusses the use of this technique in pediatric patients.

For oral rehabilitation with implant-supported prostheses, there are required procedures to create the bone volume needed for installation of the implants. Thus, bone grafts from intraoral or extraoral donor sites represent a very favorable opportunity. This study aimed to review the literature on the subject, seeking to discuss parameters for the indications, advantages and complications of techniques for autogenous bone grafts.

Choosing occlusion standards in dentures is a dilemma in oral rehabilitation, as it raises questions on which standard the dentist should use. This decision may influence the stability of the denture. Based on this problem, a literature review with articles published in the last five years, in search engines Pubmed.gov, Google Scholar and Scielo was performed. The keywords Prosthodontics, Occlusion and Edentulism were used. In this review, the articles on clinical trials and studies in silico, as well as relevant literature reviews were included. Although often the dentist may be resistant to use another type of occlusal pattern than balanced occlusion, it is important to emphasize advantages and disadvantages of occlusal arrangements in order to slow the residual ridge resorption and decrease muscle activity.

The immediate total prosthesis is a device made before the exodontia and is installed soon after the accomplishment of the same ones. Faced with a situation in which the patient encounters the remaining condemned teeth, many resist to remain edentulous while awaiting the healing phase for the manufacture of a conventional total prosthesis; thus, the total immediate prosthesis becomes an ally in these cases, promoting the return of aesthetics, phonetics, chewing and social coexistence. Through a literature review, this work aims to clarify the pertinent issues of the immediate total dentures, where they were presented their classifications, advantages and disadvantages, indications and contraindications, technique of making this prosthetic device, besides post-installation care. Searches were made in the databases Scielo, Medline, Bireme, Google academic, Capes and books; using the key words: immediate total prosthesis; immediate oral rehabilitation; oral surgery and selected articles between the years 2009 to 2019. It was possible to conclude that the advantages of the rehabilitation with immediate prosthesis are very evident, being thus an advantageous alternative of treatment.

Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is one of the most severe oral complications after the head and neck cancer treatment. Tooth extraction, through its traumatic stimulation, is identified as an important predisposing factor. Indications and preventive methods for carrying out these procedures in irradiated patients are questioned, thus, establishing appropriate protocols is essential. This article reports a case of multiple tooth extractions in a cancer patient whose preventive measures were taken without the occurrence of complications. Based on a literature review, this paper accounts the appropriate indications of this procedure, the risk of developing osteoradionecrosis, and the prevention possibilities for this sequela. In addition, this report addresses a viable oral rehabilitation alternative after this kind of surgery by using overdenture on the lower jaw teeth.
