Kendari Bay is part of Kendari City. Kendari Bay is a city landmark in addition to its economic and environmental functions.. The condition of Kendari Bay is experiencing a fairly high sedimentation problem, so that it begins to cause problems with land availability and space utilization patterns in the Kendari Bay area. The endogenous process of dynamic earth activities is a part that needs to be considered in managing that problems. This study aims the geological conditions of Kendari Bay by using remote sensing as a form of studying the geological conditions of Kendari Bay. Using Landsat 5 TM imagery in 1990, it was used to see the natural geological conditions of Kendari Bay, using the false color composite method and interpretation of photo images visually and validated through field observations. Landsat image processing and interpretation using Quantum GIS, resulted in Kendari bay can be divided into several physiography, namely coastal zone, estuary zone, fluvial zone, plain zone, hill zone, and mountain zone (Head land). The physiography can be seen from the geological characteristics such as the lithology which is composed of alluvial deposits to limestone. The results of interpretation of composite color images and validation of direct observation data in the field show a qualitative suitability.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The imaging spectroscopy offers an opportunity to map and discriminate different minerals on the lunar surface which further helps to understand the origin, evolution process, and the crustal composition on the surface of the moon. Compositional mapping of the lunar surface is considered as a standard approach for mineral mapping. This paper reports surface mineralogy of the lunar surface from Mare Vaporum using Chandrayaan-1 Hyperspectral remotely sensed data from HySi sensor. False color composite is created using different band shaping algorithms like band strength; band curve and band tilt parameters at crucial wavelength for spatial analysis. The Spectral analysis has been done by deriving reflectance spectra at varying locations from the area under study. The Study shows the mineral map with different categories of minerals which are high-Ca pyroxene and/or olivine and low Ca-pyroxene. However because of the limited spectral coverage of HySi, data at the longer wavelengths required to discriminate among different group of minerals.</p>

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Satellite imageries in True color composite or Natural Color composite (NCC) serves the best combination for visual interpretation. Red, Green and Infrared channels form false color composite which might not be as useful as NCC to a non-remote sensing professional. As blue band is affected by large atmospheric scattering, satellites like IRS-LISS IV, SPOT do not have blue band. To generate NCC from such satellite data blue band must be simulated. Existing algorithms of spectral transformation do not provide robust coefficients leading to wrong NCC colors especially in water bodies. To achieve more robust coefficients, we have proposed new algorithm to generate NCC for IRS-LISS IV data using second order polynomial regression technique. Second order polynomial transformation functions consider even minor variability present in the image as compared to 1st order so that the derived coefficients are adjustable to accommodate spatial and temporal variability while generating NCC. In this study, Sentinel-2 image was used for deriving coefficients with blue band as dependent and green, red and infrared as independent variables. Simulated Sentinel band showed high accuracy with correlation of 0.93 and 0.97 for two test sites. Using the same coefficients, blue band was simulated for LISS-IV which also showed good correlation of 0.90 with sentinel original blue band. On comparing LISS-IV simulated NCC with simulated NCC from other algorithms, it was observed that higher order polynomial transformation was able to achieve higher accuracy especially for water bodies where expected color is green. Thus, proposed algorithms can be used for transforming false color image to natural color images.</p>

This paper evaluates the potential of false-color composite images, from 3 different remote sensing satellites, for the identification of continental wetlands. Landsat 8, Sentinel-2 and CBERS-4 scenes from three different Ramsar sites (i.e., sites designated to be of international importance) two sites located within the Mato-Grossense Pantanal and one within the Sul-mato-grossense were used for analyses. For each site, images from both the dry and rainy seasons were analyzed using Near-Infrared (NIR), Shortwave Infrared (SWIR), and visible (VIS) bands. The results show that false-color composite images from both the Landsat 8 and the Sentinel-2 satellites, with both SWIR 2-NIR-BLUE and NIR-SWIR-RED spectral band combinations, allow the identification of wetlands.

Cekungan Soa yang termasuk wilayah Kabupaten Ngada dan Kabupaten Nagekeo terletak di Pulau Flores, banyak menyimpan tinggalan budaya yang antara lain berasal dari masa Paleolitik, yang selama ini belum terlalu diperhatikan oleh peneliti lingkungan, khususnya geoarkeologi. Hal inilah yang menjadi pokok permasalahan yang mencakup kondisi geologi secara umum. Adapun maksud penelitian ini adalah melakukan pemetaan geologi permukaan secara umum sebagai salah satu upaya menyajikan informasi geologi terkait dengan situs arkeologi. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui aspek-aspek geomorfologi, stratigrafi di situs-situs arkeologi. Metode penelitian dilakukan melalui kajian pustaka, survei, analisis data lapangan dan interpretasi. Pengamatan lingkungan memberikan informasi tentang bentang alam daerah penelitian yang terdiri dari satuan morfologi dataran, dan satuan morfologi bergelombang lemah. Sungainya berpola aliran centripetal, berstadia Sungai Dewasa-Tua, sungai tua, Sungai Periodik/Permanen, dan Sungai Episodik/Intermittent. Batuan penyusun adalah breksi vulkanik, tufa, konglomerat, dan endapan aluvial. Struktur geologi berupa patahan dari jenis patahan normal. Eksplorasi di Cekungan Soa telah mendata 12 situs paleolitik. Dari klasifikasi petrologi, alat-alat litik terbuat dari batuan jasper, chert, andesit, dan basal. Batuan sebagai bahan baku alat litik, banyak ditemukan di Cekungan Soa dan sekitarnya, baik dalam bentuk singkapan maupun boulder. Kata kunci: geologi, plistosen, paleolitik, situs terbuka, bahan alat litikSoa Basin, which belongs to Ngada Regency and Nagekeo Regency, is located on Flores Island, with many cultural stays, among others, from the Paleolithic period, which has not been too concerned by environmental researchers, especially geoarkeology. This is the issue that covers general geological conditions. The purpose of this research is to mapping the surface geology in general as an effort to present geological information related to archeological site. The aim is to know the geomorphological, stratigraphic aspects of the archaeological sites. The research method is done through literature review, survey, field data analysis and interpretation. Environmental observations provide information on the landscape of the study area consisting of terrestrial morphology units, and weak wavy morphology units. The river is centripetal flow pattern, with the old river, mature-old river, periodic/permanent river, and episodik /intermittent river. Constituent rocks are volcanic breccias, tuffs, conglomerates, and alluvial deposits. The geological structure is a fracture of the normal fault type. Exploration in the Soa Basin has listed 12 paleolithic sites. From the classification of petrology, litik tools made of jasper, chert, andesite, and basalt rocks. Rock as a raw material litik, found in Soa Basin and surrounding areas, both in the form of outcrops and boulder. Keywords: geology, pleistocene, paleolithic, open site, lithic tools materials

Using the data of long-term surveying at the Saranovsky chrome iron ore deposit, movements of rock mass were analyzed with a view to identifying potential early signs of ground surface collapse. The research findings are unique as one of the instrumental observation series was accomplished on the eve of the ground surface sinking above non-backfilled voids of earlier stoping. It was found that the test area experienced vertical alternating movements, and sinking was preceded by upheaval of ground surface. However, the further analysis revealed no clear cause-and-effect between the event and insufficiency of its study. The subsequent research identified a local cluster of rock mass subsidences at gradually increasing velocities, which showed up a few years before the sink appeared on ground surface above its initiation source. The absence of this cluster zone in the period before the collapse is explained by the damage of check points in this site. Finally, the conclusion is drawn that in certain geological conditions, deformation processes are localized and manifest no visible signs of impact on the enclosing rock mass and ground surface. Manifestations of these processes from the instrumental observations concentrate directly in the local area of their development, which should be taken into account in the analysis and prediction of movements. It is emphasized that the existing and new criteria of hazardous deformation processes should be corrected and updated for geomechanical monitoring of mineral mining objects.

In this study, the standard spectral ratio and the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio techniques are applied in order to study their effectiveness in investigating and quantifying the influence of geological conditions on strong ground motion. For this purpose, an accelerogram data set recorded at the Euroseistest array in the Mygdonia graben (lake Volvi area) near Thessaloniki, Greece, during the period April 1994 to June 1996 is used. Both experimental techniques show similar spectral ratio shapes with comparable fundamental resonant frequencies, which are well correlated with the well known geotechnical-geological conditions. Namely, the resonant frequency at the center of the valley is shifted to lower values, less than 1 Hz, while at the edge it is shifted to higher values, greater than 2 Hz. The horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio technique is an effective method to estimate some basic characteristics of local site effects using a single accelerograph station. It reveals the fundamental resonant frequency of alluvial deposits by using only a single strong motion station, while the absolute level of the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio method tends to underestimate the amplification level compared to the standard spectral ratio technique.

The Lower Carboniferous Bonaventure Formation of western Chaleur Bay, Gaspé and New Brunswick, is a terrestrial redbed succession with abundant calcretes, deposited in a semi-arid paleoclimate. Facies can be grouped into three associations, conglomeratic, sandstone, and mud-dominated, within two 100–150 m upward-fining megasequences. The megasequences are attributed to alluvial fan progradation due to tectonic rejuvenation.Vertical facies relationships and internal structures indicate that varied alluvial environments are represented. Alluvial fans formed on steep slopes adjacent to fault scarps and are dominated by deposits of the conglomeratic association. Lateral and downslope coalescence of fans into a braid plain is represented by transition from the conglomeratic to the sandstone facies association. Distally, the braid plain is transitional into deposits of the mud-dominated association.Paleocurrents and clast compositions show that sediment in the Gaspé outcrops was derived from the northwest, and that in New Brunswick from the southwest. This indicates that Chaleur Bay is an exhumed Carboniferous paleovalley, with axial drainage to the east.
