Theoretical problems mostly arise in a situation of collision of mutually unacceptable provisions of a separate theory, which are in a state of active confrontation. Possible ways or methods of solving these problems are usually indicated by ideas – a kind of psychological tools of thinking, the structure and functional purpose of which allow reflecting the object of comprehension in many ways and holistically, thus preventing the prospect of its extreme manifestations as mutually contradictory concepts of one-sided theoretical ideas-approaches. The peculiarity of the idea form-creation process is determined by the fact that thinking, stimulating the functional purpose of the idea, uses while its development improved rules of concepts derivation and changed principles of proving their truth, which are different from those that caused the theoretical problem occurrence. The improvement of these rules and the change of principles is carried out by taking into account the function of the operational component of thinking as a such, which leaves behind its categorical component only the function of the source of links to be reorganized. Mental operations that carry out this reorganization are triadic inferences, the use of which through thinking as psychological tools is possible by providing the content of the conceivable form of dialogics, i.e. a kind of dialogue logic of two logics, which meets the requirements of dialogical essence of thinking and principles of dialectics. Dialogics considers formally mutually contradictory understanding positions of one and the same object of comprehension, organizing them as a positively significant form of a theoretical problem statement. To solve it successfully, dialogics uses the idea as a mental tool, which is given the form of a dialectical-logical concept that can reflect the essence of a particular theoretical problem, manifested in the form of dialectical unity of formally opposite theoretical positions. Most importantly, the idea as a mental tool of reflecting the essence of the problem raises the theoretical comprehension of the investigated object over the functional degree of finding its place in a particular concept or paradigmatic model and opens the prospect of its objectification at the metaparadigmatic level in an exhaustive category-methodological completeness.

Accounting for goodwill has long been a theoretical problem for accountants. Although most businesses possess some goodwill, accountants record it only when a premium is paid in the acquisition of another company. Subsequent to acquisition, valuing goodwill becomes a problem. Statement of Financial Accounting No. 142, Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets (FASB 2001), is the current standard for testing goodwill for impairment. This case is designed to introduce you to the “real-world” problems that many practitioners are likely to encounter while implementing this new standard. The case involves two antagonists: an auditor eager to record an impairment of goodwill and a client even more eager to avoid recording any impairment. You must tactfully address both individuals' arguments and determine the correct method for accounting for goodwill and the standard for testing for impairment per SFAS No. 142.

Abstract Most cognitive psychophysiological studies assume (1) that there is a chain of (partially overlapping) cognitive processes (processing stages, mechanisms, operators) leading from stimulus to response, and (2) that components of event-related brain potentials (ERPs) may be regarded as manifestations of these processing stages. What is usually discussed is which particular processing mechanisms are related to some particular component, but not whether such a relationship exists at all. Alternatively, from the point of view of noncognitive (e. g., “naturalistic”) theories of perception ERP components might be conceived of as correlates of extraction of the information from the experimental environment. In a series of experiments, the author attempted to separate these two accounts, i. e., internal variables like mental operations or cognitive parameters versus external variables like information content of stimulation. Whenever this separation could be performed, the latter factor proved to significantly affect ERP amplitudes, whereas the former did not. These data indicate that ERPs cannot be unequivocally linked to processing mechanisms postulated by cognitive models of perception. Therefore, they cannot be regarded as support for these models.

 The classic brand design literature presents and illustrates best practices in developing the physical, graphical and semiotic aspects of a brand. However, both practitioners and academics outline that brand design is only the starting point of the brand strategy, which has to be completed and complemented by designing and effectively managing meaningful brand experiences. The success of the brand depends on a value co-creation process in which the intentions and offerings of producers and vendors encounter, and interact with, the customer experiences of the brand and of the associated product. A brand experience designed for the customer can therefore be multi-dimensional and not just product led.

The article opens a cycle of publications, which analyze the similarities and differences between the two wide spread modern approaches to the description of society - sociological and informational ones. Both approaches have the same methodological problem to be solved. The problem of expressing hidden knowledge about society that participants in social processes operate with the help of natural language in the course of social communication. In order to harmonize sociological and informational approaches of describing society, it was proposed any natural language statements involved in describing society to be arranged according to the basic principle of information technology - modularity. The proposed way of harmonizing informational and sociological methods of building knowledge about society is invoked by the need to solve two scientific problems formulated in sociology itself - the constructability of social objects and the complexity of social relationships. The paper's methodological proposals are embodied in their computer realization, which practical application is demonstrated in other publications of the authors.
