scholarly journals Quantification of Risks on Technological Innovation using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process

Innovation has become the key determinant of any organization in “Staying Relevant”, irrespective of the product or service produced. Innovation comprises different concepts based on the application through the product and service Life-Cycle. Technological Innovation has become the governing factor out of all which ensures the successfulness of the Innovation. But Innovation involves great amount of risks which even leads to an organization into a catastrophic situation in the absence of an appropriate Risk Management Strategy. In developing a Risk Management Strategy it is imperative to have a precise knowledge on the impact of Risks related to Technological Innovation, which can be represented by weightages. This paper presents Risks related to Technological Innovation based on the Literature and attempt to establish a relationship among the risks which forms a Hierarchical structure related to Fuzzy – Analytic Hierarchy process (F-AHP). Information unveiled in the literature and the ideas shared by Industry Expertise were the basis for pairwise comparisons. Consistency of the Pairwise comparison has endorsed using the Consistency Ratio. Consistent pair wise matrices were converted into Fuzzy matrices which have been carried out Fuzzy-AHP in obtaining the weightages related to Technological Innovation Risks. The weightages derived, provide a clearer insight on contribution of different risks on Technological Innovation failures and hence giving heads-up on the risks which need prior attention. Furthermore this illuminates the effectiveness of the Risk Management Strategy by providing facts to decide on which risks need to be Ignored, Mitigated, Addressed or Transferred. Thus, precise application of the findings of this research will absolutely help in developing a copy proof Risk Management Strategy which would ultimately offers many opportunities to a business that cannot be realized otherwise.

Decisions usually involve the getting the best solution, selecting the suitable experiments, most appropriate judgments, taking the quality results etc., using some techniques.  Every decision making can be considered as the choice from the set of alternatives based on a set of criteria.  The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is a multi-criteria decision making and is dealing with decision making problems through pairwise comparisons mode [10].  The weight vectors from this comparison model are obtained by using extent analysis method.  This paper concern with an alternate method of finding the weight vectors from the original fuzzy AHP decision model (moderate fuzzy AHP model), that has the same rank as obtained in original fuzzy AHP and ideal fuzzy AHP decision models.

In this paper, the application of the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP) combined with a set of criteria analysis for the selection of appropriate sites for the development offshore wind energy in Taiwan is presented. The Fuzzy AHP was first conducted to rank the importance and identify the key factors of offshore wind energy successfully. From the numerical results, eight key factors that must be considered in the site selection of offshore wind energy system in Taiwan were obtained by using Fuzzy AHP model. They are: wind power, earthquakes, land use, shore type, typhoon, distance to shoreline, flight safety and water depth. Based on these factors, a set of criteria for the selection of sites for offshore wind farms was also established using five different sites in Taiwan. From the assessment results, it was found that Changhua coastal region is an appropriate site for offshore wind energy in Taiwan.

In the last 30 years, several distinguished researchers have proposed and discussed different fuzzy versions of well-known Saaty's Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The paper recently published by K. Zhü in the European Journal of Operational Research heavily criticizes the fuzzy approaches to AHP, claiming the fallacy of all of them. Therefore, it seems to be necessary to clarify whether the criticisms are well-founded or not. The present paper aims to rebut Zhü's claims by showing that the evidences and the reasonings in his paper are very poor and far from proving the fallacy of fuzzy AHP.

Housing constitutes a basic need for all living beings. Unfortunately, natural hazards, including floods, pose a severe threat to housing infrastructure systems. In turn, this paper develops a framework to quantify the resilience of housing infrastructure systems against flood hazards. The parameters for this resilience are based on the literature and knowledge from experts. This paper gauges the significance of each resilience parameter is evaluated using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the fuzzy AHP. The evaluated values are then compared to observe the effectiveness of fuzzy AHP over AHP. The evaluated importance of each parameter will help stakeholders focus on the most important parameters and, in turn, boost the flood resilience of infrastructure. This paper then implements the developed framework in a study area to quantify local flood resilience. This resilience value will help stakeholders in the considered area to understand the resilience of local housing infrastructure.

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) concept has apprehended the interest of most of the actors in higher education. MOOC platforms are considered a crucial source of information for both learners and professors by offering hundreds of courses around the world. However, this technology has faced many challenges, particularly their low completion rates. The present article proposes the architecture of a framework using a Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process algorithm (Fuzzy-AHP) to determine the triangular weight of the courses from the most widespread MOOCS in the literature. Weights of the courses are calculated by fuzzy numbers in line with the learning profile. The outcome of the proposed framework is to improve teaching effectiveness, facilitate learning among learners, encourage long life learning and maximize motivation as well as reducing the dropout rates.
