In the conceptual design stage, inspirational sources play an important role in designers’ creative thinking. This paper proposes a retrieval method for semantic-based inspirational sources, which helps designers obtain inspirational images in the conceptual design stage of emotional design. The core principle involves solving the designer’s own deficiencies in associations and limited knowledge, by bridging the “semantic gap” faced by designers when they use Kansei words for inspirational sources. This method can be divided into two aspects: (1) based on the semantic richness of Kansei words, the first part describes how a lexical ontology for Kansei words called KanseiNet is constructed and proposes a spreading activation mechanism based on KanseiNet to complete the semantic expansion of Kansei words; (2) the second part describes how, using existing semantic techniques, relevant design website resources are crawled and analyzed, images’ context descriptions and Kansei evaluations are extracted, and Kansei evaluation index of inspirational images is established. The KanseiNet for Chinese is first constructed, and the Sources of Inspiration Retrieval System for Emotional Design (SIRSED) is developed. An experiment comparing the existing image retrieval systems with SIRSED proved the latter to be a more comprehensive and accurate way for designers to access inspirational sources.

The given article analyzes the peculiarities of the stylistic functioning of allusions to the Holy Scripture within one religious play belonging to the modern early English period, namely “Johan Baptystes Preachynge” produced by a dramatist J. Bale. The analysis is performed from the standpoint of linguopoetics. We consider stylistic features via the correlation of form and meaning, dissection of the conceptual component, juxtaposition with medieval plays representing adaptations of the same scriptural plot. Within the framework of this analysis we identify and assess elements performing the function of impact incorporated into the scriptural allusions and estimate their role in the selection of other lexical units, construction of extended metaphors, syntactic shaping of particular fragments of the play. We draw a conclusion that via the extension of scriptural metaphorical complexes the author brings about a meaningful focus shift to ensure a protestant reinterpretation of the included biblical theses. A substantial share of stylistically marked elements undergoes semantic expansion and develops adherent connotations since they relate to the pivotal elements of the allusions.

Abstract This paper explores a multi-strategy technique that aims at enriching text documents for improving clustering quality. We use a combination of entity linking and document summarization in order to determine the identity of the most salient entities mentioned in texts. To effectively enrich documents without introducing noise, we limit ourselves to the text fragments mentioning the salient entities, in turn, belonging to a knowledge base like Wikipedia, while the actual enrichment of text fragments is carried out using WordNet. To feed clustering algorithms, we investigate different document representations obtained using several combinations of document enrichment and feature extraction. This allows us to exploit ensemble clustering, by combining multiple clustering results obtained using different document representations. Our experiments indicate that our novel enriching strategies, combined with ensemble clustering, can improve the quality of classical text clustering when applied to text corpora like The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) NEWS.

AbstractUttering a vow was an important and popular religious practice in ancient Judaism. It is mentioned frequently in biblical literature, and an entire rabbinic tractate, Nedarim, is devoted to this subject. In this article, I argue that starting from the Second Temple period, alongside the regular use of the vow, vows were also used as an aggressive binding mechanism in interpersonal situations. This practice became so popular that in certain contexts the vow became synonymous with the curse, as in a number of ossuaries in Jerusalem and in the later Aramaic incantation bowls. Moreover, this semantic expansion was not an isolated Jewish phenomenon but echoed both the use of the anathema in the Pauline epistles and contemporary Greco-Roman and Babylonian magical practices.

The common information retrieval technology is mainly based on keyword matching and this kind of method only focuse on the optimization algorithm, ignoring the semantic research. This does not solve the fundamental semantic multiplicity, retrieve diversity, related web undetected, sort unstandardized. This paper is a study of these problems arise for the current proposed MIRSA information retrieval model based on semantic analysis. This model consists of the following four main key points: disambiguation method, semantic expansion algorithm, the search terms match strategy, web sorting algorithms. This model can effectively solve the problem of semantic multiplicity, avoid missed relevant pages and reasonably improve the sor of related pages.

We consider the problem of the development of the lexical competence of the future linguists who study French language after English in the higher education system. We also analyze English borrowings in French language, consider their adaptation in the receiving language and reveal the semantic features of foreign words. It is disclosed that the lexical competence of a future linguist who studies French in multilingual terms, is the ability of the learner to determine the contextual meaning of foreign words, to compare the volume of their meanings in English, French and Russian languages, to explicate the meanings of words showing sensitivity to differences in lan-guages. Future linguists have the opportunity to learn the phenomena of the French language, ac-cept them, or through dialogue and textual analysis of linguistic information correct their mistakes. It is revealed that at the semantic stage of the integration of anglicisms into French language, their semantic expansion or restriction occurs. It is proved that the knowledge component of students’ lexical competence includes ideas about interlanguage lexical correspondences, word-formation structure of the word and their semantic features. Different strategies are used to study lexical units: searching for information in paper and electronic dictionaries, language supports, interlanguage contrasting exercises, which contribute to the improvement of the lexical competence of students in multilingualism terms. The use of information and communication technologies allows to develop receptive and productive lexical skills of students, contributes to the expansion of their vocabulary, leads to the development of future specialist’s awareness.
