In light of the reflections on violence and power of Hannah Arendt - "La violencia aparece donde el poder está en peligro pero, confiada a su propio impulso, acaba por hacer desaparecer al poder" (Alianza, 2005), I will approach the impeccable fictionalized chronicle of Selva Almada that delves into the complex mechanisms of the normalization of violence - both real and symbolic - exercised against women. The text focuses on the murder of three teenagers - Maria Luisa, Andrea and Sarita - in the Argentina of the 1980s, but also shows how internalized socially misogynist mental structures are - the patriarchal power in danger derives from violence- and outlines the close links that in the Argentine case have systemic violence against women both with poverty and the rural world and with the previous military dictatorship and state repression of bodies and minds whose imagination also extends to democracy. The author of Ladrilleros puts her finger on the wound and clears with intelligence how patriarchy works and to what extent we can all be accomplices of horror.

ABSTRACT The article proposes the existence of an actorial network that created a character-type of the male homosexual, which could be called the bicha louca (crazy fag). Actors such as Nestor Montemar, Raul Cortez, Ítalo Rossi and Emiliano Queiroz participated in this network, contributing to the theatre being a space of visibility for the LGBT population and of resistance to the moral and political repression in the period of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985).

Abstract The purpose of this article is to analyse British media coverage of the Brazilian dictatorship. Specifically, we examine coverage by the weekly news magazine The Economist in the period from the promulgation of Institutional Act 5 in December 1968, to 1975, the second year of the Geisel administration. We compare its coverage with that of The Times and The Guardian in order to reach an understanding of its portrayal of Brazil in terms of two themes in particular: economic performance (notably the ‘Brazilian miracle’), and political repression. We relate the latter theme to the international condemnations of torture, and the disappearance of political prisoners. Furthermore, given that The Economist mainly covers issues from an economic perspective, we examine shifts in the frequency and content of articles about Brazil, and conclude that The Economist’s portrayal of Brazil in the period under review deviated from that of much of the rest of the British Press.

Abstract: This article is based on the concept of Transitional Justice, specifically its pillar Memory and Truth, in the context of democratic transition in Brazil, in order to highlight the relevance of national cinema to the problematization of memory about the past of civil-military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985). In particular, we analyze the film A Freira e a tortura by Ozualdo Candeias, released in 1983, which, set in the 1970s, shows the repression of women religious in the instances of the State of exception, where rights have been suspended and others violated. It is considered that this film, fiction, integrates the conflictive production of memories that takes place in the country, from the beginning of the political opening (1974), to face the past of dictatorship - marked by the violence perpetrated by the State. It is observed that, despite its ambiguities and contradictions, the cultural artifact establishes a less conciliatory vision about that process of dictatorship, revealing, rather, authoritarianism and political violence of the period, including gender violence.

This article explores the processes of finding a voice, learning to speak, and breaking silence around gender violence for a Kurdish woman endeavouring to resist oppression and destroy forced negative images and identities. It examines the ways in which she struggles to break imposed silences through resisting gender discrimination and telling stories of violence and exploitation, as represented in the Kurdish novelistic discourse in Bahdinan. Studying Sabri Silevani’s Mariama: Kiçe-Jinek ji Zemanek Di (Mariama: A Woman from Another Time, 2007), the article examines the various forms and layers of violence imposed on Kurdish women by the tribal and patriarchal norms and the social and political structures within the post-conflict Kurdish society in Iraqi Kurdistan. The three-fold typological model of violence developed by the political scientist Johan Galtung is adopted in the article to explore the ways in which the personal characteristics of individuals and the political, economic, and cultural structures of society are viewed as factors affecting the generation of gendered aggression. Most importantly, for the purpose of this article, is the significant utilisation of the association of Galtung’s typology with feminist studies of violence in the exploration of Kurdish women’s attempt to resist marginalisation and their struggle for recognition. Moreover, Rita Felski’s description and study of modern writing by women as a medium through which female political identities and collective consciousness are constructed and represented are adopted to discuss the structural and thematic properties of the text.ABSTRACT IN KURMANJITemsîla şideta cinsî ya piştî şerî di gotara edebî ya kurdên Iraqê de li herêma BehdînanEv meqale berê xwe dide merheleyên peydakirina dengî, fêrbûna axiftinê û daşikandina bêdengiya li dor şideta cinsî li cem jineke kurd a hewl dide li hember zextan ber xwe bide û wêne û huwiyetên menfî yên dasepandî ji nav bibe.
