Introduction: To compare the pediatric TruView EVO2 and Airtraq laryngoscope in children < 5 years with normal airway. Methods: Prospective, randomised, controlled study with 60 children scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia divided into two groups:intubation using TVand Airtraq. Time to intubate, rst attempt success rate (FASR), percentage of glottic opening, ease of intubation score and complications were recorded. Results: Time to intubate was 27.54sec in TV and 21.50 sec in AT (P<0.0001). FASR was 80% in the TV and 100% in the AT. The percentage of glottis opening score was 90% in TVand ATgroup. Ease of Intubation was more with ATgroup. Conclusion: AT is better than TV for intubating children as it takes lesser time for intubation, has higher rst attempt success rate and greater ease of intubation.

AbstractObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the gustatory function between patients with chronic mucosal and squamous diseases before and after the surgery.MethodA total of 33 patients with mucosal diseases and 34 patients with squamous diseases were evaluated for gustatory function both in the pre-operative and post-operative periods. The taste scores were compared between the two groups.ResultsThe gustatory scores in the mucosal disease group were significantly better than the scores in the squamous disease group (p < 0.05). There was no significant correlation detected between the age of the patients or duration of the disease with the taste scores in any of the study groups.ConclusionThe improvement in gustatory score was better in the chronic mucosal disease group than the squamous disease group. There was no significant correlation found between the age of the patients or duration of disease and the taste score in any of the study groups.

INTRODUCTION Cutiplast (absorbent perforated dressing with adhesive border; Smith & Nephew) is commonly used following orthopaedic operation, but complications of its use have been reported. A prospective, randomised, controlled study was performed to compare the efficacy of Cutiplast versus an Aquacel (hydrofibre dressing; ConvaTec) covered with Tegaderm (vapour-permeable dressing; 3M). PATIENTS AND METHODS Two-hundred patients were randomised to receive one of the two dressings following elective and non-elective surgery of the hip and the knee. We were able to study 183 patients. The condition of the wound and any complications such as skin blistering or signs of infection was noted as was the frequency of dressing changes. RESULTS The Aquacel and Tegaderm dressing was 5.8 times more likely to result in a wound with no complications as compared to a Cutiplast dressing (odds ratio, 5.8; 95% CI 2.8–12.5; P < 0.00001). CONCLUSION Aquacel covered by Tegaderm is a superior dressing to Cutiplast following surgery to the hip and knee.
