The prospects of using the gas-static suspension of the internal combustion engine piston in transport vehicles and power plants are considered. The diagram of the piston and the method for calculating the stiffness and bearing capacity of the gas layer surrounding the piston are presented, as well as the results of experiments that showed the relevance of this method. The modification of the downsizing trend of internal combustion engines towards rightsizing is a new challenge for constructors. The change in the displacement volume of internal combustion engines accompanying the rightsizing idea may in fact mean a reduction or increase of the defining swept volume change factors and thus may affect the change in the operating characteristics as a result of changes in combustion process parameters - a research problem described in this publication. Incidents of changes in the displacement volume were considered along with the change of the compression space and at the change of the geometric degree of compression. The new form of the mathematical dependence describing the efficiency of the thermodynamic cycle makes it possible to evaluate the opera-tion indicators of the internal combustion engine along with the implementation of the rightsizing idea. The work demonstrated the in-variance of cycle efficiency with different forms of rightsizing.

This article discusses the issues of assessing the technical condition of the camshaft, internal combustion engine. The necessary parameters for assessing the technical condition of the engine camshaft have been determined. How and how to measure and calculate this or that parameter is presented in detail. Methods for calculating the parameters are presented. A scheme and method for measuring neck wear, determining the height of the cam, determining the beating of the central journal of the camshaft are proposed. The main defects of the camshafts are presented. The issues of the influence of these parameters on the operability of the camshaft and the internal combustion engine as a whole are considered.

Fuel conversion efficiency is one of the main concerns in the field of internal combustion engine systems. Although the Otto cycle delivers the maximum efficiency possible in theory, the kinematics of the slider–crank mechanism of the conventional internal combustion engines makes it difficult to reach this level of efficiency in practice. This study proposes using the unique hypocycloid gear mechanism instead of the conventional slider–crank mechanism for the internal combustion engines to increase engine efficiency and minimize frictional power losses. The hypocycloid gear mechanism engine’s kinematics provides the means for the piston-rod assembly to reciprocate in a straight-line motion along the cylinder axis besides achieving a nonlinear rate of piston movement. As a result, this characteristic allows for a true constant-volume combustion, which in turn would lead to higher work output. An in-cylinder gas volume change model of the hypocycloid gear mechanism engine was developed and incorporated into the thermodynamic model for the internal combustion engine cycle. The thermodynamic model of the hypocycloid gear mechanism engine was developed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink software. A comparison between the conventional engine and the hypocycloid gear mechanism engine in terms of engine performance characteristics showed the enhancements achieved using hypocycloid gear mechanism for internal combustion engine applications. The hypocycloid gear mechanism engine analysis results indicated higher engine efficiency approaching that of the Otto cycle.

Three Stages

This paper reports on a study into the feasibility of generating steam, using the exhaust gases of a reciprocating internal combustion engine, and expanding it in the cylinders of the engine to produce additional power without increasing the fuel consumption. The study was conducted in three stages; firstly an equivalent ideal thermodynamic cycle was analysed to examine the fundamental principles, secondly a computer simulation was carried out based on a particular engine, and thirdly an attempt was made to modify the engine and run it with steam injection. The results suggest that this proposal is thermodynamically sound and could in practice permit substantial gains in efficiency using relatively straightforward technology.

Presented are possible applications of acoustic diagnostics in inspecting the technical condition of an internal combustion engine with autoignition on the example of the Fiat drive unit with common rail system. As a result of measuring the sound pressure level for specific faults and comparing the noise generated by the motor running smoothly, the detailed maps of changes in the acoustic spectrum are possible to generate. These results may be helpful in the future diagnostics of internal combustion engines. The results of scientific work in the area of research, design and operation of internal combustion engines, conducted at the Department of Automotive Engineering, in cooperation with the Laboratory of Hydraulic Drives & Vibroacoustics of Machines at the Wroclaw University of Technology are included. It has developed an authoritative method of identifying the type of engine damage using game-tree structures. An integrated decision system for induction machine learning was developed to test and identify acoustic properties.

Este estudio trata sobre el análisis de aceite de un motor de combustión interna a diesel de un equipo caminero, para utilizarlo como una herramienta de mantenimiento predictivo basado en su condición. El control de los parámetros principales del aceite, ayuda a determinar los efectos del deterioro en la lubricación de los equipos y el aumento de contaminantes en el aceite, lo que permite determinar las causas de diferentes problemas de los equipos. Con el control realizado se emitieron las recomendaciones de corrección de operación y mantenimiento, y su posterior seguimiento. Las gráficas de control de los elementos de desgaste permiten predecir cuál es el comportamiento que mantiene el equipo emitiendo alertas de control cuando se superan las tendencias de operación de los equipos. Abstract This study deals with the analysis of oil from a diesel internal combustion engine of a vehicle as a tool to predict maintenance needs based on its condition. The control of the main parameters of oil help to determine the effects of deterioration in the lubrication of the parts and an increase in contaminants in the oil, allows the causes of different problems to be determined. Following the check that was carried out, recommendations were made for operative and maintenance corrections and for subsequent follow-ups. Control charts which show the elements of wear allow us to predict a machine’s behavior and issue warnings when operating operative trends are exceeded.

The most effective method of reducing nitrogen oxides in diesel exhaust gas is selective purifica-tion by the SCR-NH3 method. The method uses ammonia released during thermolysis and hydroly-sis of a urea solution when it is injected through a nozzle into a neutralizer. This method has a rela-tively low efficiency of cleaning the exhaust gas from nitrogen oxides. The main factor hindering the achievement of high efficiency of the NOx neutralization system is the insufficiently high tem-perature during the implementation of this process. The article analyzes various ways to increase the efficiency of the neutralization process and proposes a new method for neutralizing NOx by using urea injection into the cylinders of the inter-nal combustion engine at the expansion stroke in a diesel internal combustion engine. Efficiency can be achieved due to a higher exhaust gas temperature in the cylinder of the internal combustion engine and an increase in the time of the process of thermolysis and hydrolysis of urea. The kinetics of the decomposition of nitrogen oxides, the process of NH3 oxidation, and the cal-culation of temperature conditions in the cylinder of a diesel internal combustion engine at the ex-haust cycle are considered. The experience of neutralization of NOx contained in the flue gases of thermal power plants, where NOx purification takes place at high temperatures without the use of a catalyst, is analyzed. It is shown that the modernization of the SCR-NH3 process, due to the injection of urea at the exhaust stroke in a diesel internal combustion engine, will simplify the existing method of NOx neutralization and at the same time obtain additional advantages for a modern high-speed engine

Constructive improvement of mobile energy means, in particular their main unit - the internal combustion engine, is directed on: maintenance of differentiation of size of parameters of functioning of mechanisms of systems depending on variability of conditions and modes of operation of cars; increase of technical resource at use of cars on purpose in the set operating conditions. The existing methods and tools for diagnosing vehicle engines do not fully determine their current technical condition, which requires the development of mathematical models to automate the process of diagnosing their components and parts was found іn the analysis of literature sources. The object of diagnosis is a diesel internal combustion engine of the YaMZ-238 family, which is part of the power unit of most vehicles. Mathematical model of automation of the process of diagnosing internal combustion engines of the YaMZ-238 family is presents in the article. Replacing real technical devices with their idealized models allows the widespread use of various mathematical methods. In this case, the internal combustion engine of the YaMZ-238 family, as the object of diagnosis, is presented in the form of a «black box», the input and output parameters of which have a finite set of values. In general, the mathematical model is a system of functional relationships between each diagnostic signal and structural parameters. For internal combustion engines of the YaMZ-238 family, a diagnostic matrix has been compiled, which includes a list of faults and signs of faults. It is determined that the process of diagnosis based on the model of the diagnostic object is possible if the inverse transformation of the number of signs of malfunctions into the number of structural parameters (malfunctions) of the object was unambiguous. The proposed mathematical model of automation of the process of diagnosing internal combustion engines of the family YaMZ-238 will detect faults of components and parts depending on their characteristics.
