Determining the optimum cutting tool positions in a tool magazine is a challenging task which involves a huge searching space. Reduction of manufacturing time even by nanoseconds will highly be beneficial for all process industries. The prime focus of this research work is to reduce the total turret or tool indexing time in Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) which in turn curtails the idle non-cutting time of the bi-directional turret or tool magazine in a CNC machine. This variant of optimization problem falls under the category of non-deterministic hard polynomial (NP-hard) problem. Chemical Reaction Optimization (CRO) algorithm is proposed to determine the near optimal/global optimal solution with lesser computational cost. Five benchmark case studies are considered in this work to assess the robustness of the proposed algorithm. From the results, it is evident that the proposed algorithm yields solutions which matches or exceeds with the solution quality.

Multilayer neural networks are commonly and frequently used technique for mapping complex nonlinear input-output relationship. However, they add more computational cost due to structural complexity in architecture. This chapter presents different functional link networks (FLN), a class of higher order neural network (HONN). FLNs are capable to handle linearly non-separable classes by increasing the dimensionality of the input space by using nonlinear combinations of input signals. Usually such network is trained with gradient descent based back propagation technique, but it suffers from many drawbacks. To overcome the drawback, here a natural chemical reaction inspired metaheuristic technique called as artificial chemical reaction optimization (ACRO) is used to train the network. As a case study, forecasting of the stock index prices of different stock markets such as BSE, NASDAQ, TAIEX, and FTSE are considered here to compare and analyze the performance gain over the traditional techniques.

Tool magazine and automatic tool changer is important parts to fulfill the machining center tool reserve and automatic changing of the spindle tool. The reliability of them directly affects the performance of the host. But recently there are no researches on the reliability evaluation methods, so considering this situation, the reliability evaluation researches on CNC machine tools and their main parts at home and abroad are analyzed and concluded. Combining the collected failure data of the circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer, use MTBF (Mean Time between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) and the inherent availability index to realize the reliability evaluation of the circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer. Thus put forward a method to study the reliability evaluation of circular tool magazine and automatic tool changer.

In order to ensure processing quality and validate the accurary of macro program. VERICUT software was often used to achieve five-axis gantry milling machine automatic tool changer (ATC) of the whole process simulation. The results show that the validity of macro program is verified by NC simulation and the efficiency of NC simulation is improved. It provides a guide for the modeling and simulation of multi-axis CNC machine tools.

Background: There have been rapid developments in various bioinformatics technologies, which have led to the accumulation of a large amount of biomedical data. However, these datasets usually involve thousands of features and include much irrelevant or redundant information, which leads to confusion during diagnosis. Feature selection is a solution that consists of finding the optimal subset, which is known to be an NP problem because of the large search space. Objective: For the issue, this paper proposes a hybrid feature selection method based on an improved chemical reaction optimization algorithm (ICRO) and an information gain (IG) approach, which called IGICRO. Methods: IG is adopted to obtain some important features. The neighborhood search mechanism is combined with ICRO to increase the diversity of the population and improve the capacity of local search. Results: Experimental results of eight public available data sets demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms original CRO and other state-of-the-art approaches.
