It has been finely said of Switzerland that while the present war has demonstrated in a sinister manner Swiss dependence upon its powerful neighbors for fuel and food, and thus for its very existence, nevertheless neither these neighbors nor the world at large could for a moment spare the example of heroism and devotion so constantly and consistently set by the Swiss nation in its political and social life. This quality of devotion has been illustrated during the war not alone by the struggles unavoidable in the maintenance of neutrality, but also in the far-reaching activities of the International Red Cross at Geneva. Indeed, the work accomplished through the agencies of this wonderful organization in the internment and care of wounded soldiers and their repatriation where permissible under belligerent agreement, in the repatriation of civilians driven from occupied territory, the transmission of mail to prisoners, and the discovery of vast numbers of the missing, constitute one of the most striking chapters in the war’s history.

In the article, it is stated that Great Britain had been the biggest empire in the world in the course of many centuries. Due to synchronic and diachronic approaches it was detected time simultaneousness of the British Empire’s development in the different parts of the world. Different forms of its ruling (colonies, dominions, other territories under her auspice) manifested this phenomenon. The British Empire went through evolution from the First British Empire which was developed on the count mostly of the trade of slaves and slavery as a whole to the Second British Empire when itcolonized one of the biggest states of the world India and some other countries of the East; to the Third British Empire where it colonized countries practically on all the continents of the world. TheForth British Empire signifies the stage of its decomposition and almost total down fall in the second half of the 20th century. It is shown how the national liberation moments starting in India and endingin Africa undermined the British Empire’s power, which couldn’t control the territories, no more. The foundation of the independent nation state of Great Britain free of colonies did not lead to lossof the imperial spirit of its establishment, which is manifested in its practical deeds – Organization of the British Commonwealth of Nations, which later on was called the Commonwealth, Brexit and so on.The conclusions are drawn that Great Britain makes certain efforts to become a global state again.

In the report of the International Congress of Mental Medicine, which appeared in this Journal in October, 1878, I referred briefly to the discussion which took place upon the provision made, or proposed to be made, in France for criminal lunatics and lunatic criminals. I was not, however, able to give at that time the conclusions arrived at in the debate, nor did space allow of my giving an account of the Quarter at Gaillon for insane convicts. I am now able to supply both omissions, and believe that the information conveyed as to what is being done across the Channel will be of interest to those in Great Britain and Ireland who are concerned directly or indirectly with the important subject of criminal lunacy.

The paper defines the notion of globalization as spreading of American culture to all countries in the world. The essential meaning of the ideology of globalization is the establishment of a new way to rule the world. The idea of American world leadership, supported by the entire elite of the American society, is underlined. The second part analyses examples of the globalization of the Serbian society. Media and education are the two areas of social life in which the processes of Americanization are the strongest. The examples from economy, culture, entertainment and sport are also pointed out. The third part discusses the possibility of protection from globalization, pointing to the possibility of critical doubt as a part of the collective and individual consciousness in denying universality of the American model, as well as to the value of autonomy, unpredictability of human nature, and to the process of auto-criticism within the American society.

This article introduces an online collection of pieces on mixed legal systems in the European Journal of Comparative Law and Governance. The articles are derived from the Third International Congress of the World Society of Mixed Jurisdiction Jurists held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the summer of 2011.

This is the third meeting on fibres and composite materials organized by the Royal Society. The first, in 1963, was a discussion on strong and stiff materials, since it was considered that conventional methods of producing strong materials were approaching their limits. The necessity for strong stiff fibres of low density with especial reference to their use in fibre reinforced matrices was emphasized and attention was also drawn to the possibilities of making them from cheap abundant materials of intrinsic high modulus and therefore high strength. This meeting can fairly claim to have initiated considerable research in the United Kingdom and a second meeting, held in 1970, discussed the advances made in the interval, both in the development of new fibres and of a better understanding of the mechanics of composite materials. Since then research and development throughout the world has led to the invention of further new strong and stiff fibres, more knowledge of the properties and behaviour of fibres and composite materials under various conditions, e.g. structural, mechanical, and environmental.

Internet addiction is becoming a growing phenomenon across the world due to the tendency of Internet overuse for varied reasons. The objective of this study is to identify the extent of Internet use and level of addiction among teenagers with the age ranging from 13 to 17 years old. This also include the risk factor and impact to their social life. The sample data were taken from several schools covering 500 students from the state of Selangor in Malaysia. The survey was done using an instrument from Internet Addiction Test (IAT) developed by Dr. Kimberly Young. This test had been modified to meet the requirements of the youngster’s mind-set in Malaysia. Demographics factors such as age, gender and race were examined apart from family and personal factors. The results of the study and Chi-square test summarizes that the level of internet addiction among teenagers in Selangor is p = 0.161 and tends to be minimal. We need to be aware of the level of Internet usage by teenagers so that measures could be made in place to deter or mitigate Internet addiction.
