Objective: The extreme and constant use of internet use has been reported to be associated with depression and other adverse physical health conditions. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between the frequency of internet usage among the university students of Visakhapatnam, India, and their health problems and depression levels. Methods: The study sample consists of 100 university students studying at a university in Visakhapatnam, India. Distribution of the sample by gender was 43 males and 50 females. Questionnaires were administered to students in groups, in a class environment, by the author. Participation was voluntary. In total, 100 students participated in this study. Seven of them had to be excluded for not responding properly to all questionnaires, so the final sample consisted of 93 participants. Results: The results indicate a significant association between depression and the intense internet usage (>5–7 h/daily), with Chi-square value 23.80 and p<0.01. Furthermore, as the internet usage increases, there is a significant rise in systolic blood pressure with F=3.74 and p<0.05. Conclusion: This study indicates that intense internet usage is definitely leading to mental health problems like depression and also other physical health issues like increased blood pressure.

This paper provides a historical snapshot of personal ICT usage in 2005/2006, specifically shedding light on how Australian and German couples (N= 48) had integrated the internet into their homes with a focus on spatial and social transformations. Using a home ethnographic approach, this qualitative study implemented in-depth interviews across two countries. From a spatial perspective, Australian couples had their laptops or PCs highly integrated into the family life usually in multifunctional rooms or open areas, whereas German couples’ laptops and PCs were most often found in separate study rooms. From a social perspective, internet use can be related to elements that bring couples together, but also to elements of disintegration. A shift in how couples spent their time together was observed from watching TV together in the same room, to going online in the same room at two PCs or one person being online while the other conducted other activities.

This chapter is designed to interpret and understand the difference between parents and their children with reference to their usage of internet and its influence in their daily lives. Teenagers between the age of 13 and 16 are the most vulnerable and most prone to cyber bullying and other crimes. Children's effective use of internet relies heavily on the factors surrounding them that not only includes their parents but also their peer and school and neighbourhood. Parents believe that depriving their children of internet access or tools can stop them from accessing the web or restrict their skills and learning about social media. They do not believe that internet use affects family relations negatively. The chapter presents a study undertaken of parents and their children. This presents differences in perception and understanding of internet usage.

Digitalization is a phenomenon that is spreading day by day on a global scale. Both physiological decline and dissonances in education and professional experience strengthen the possibility of excluding the elder in the new economic and social order where digitalization has accelerated. In a period of 10 years if Industry 4.0 is taken as a milestone, and 5-6 years if Society 5.0 is taken as a milestone, it is natural to experience insufficiencies in the awareness of elder employees although there is a rapid transformation process. Therefore, problems may arise in the possibility of the surveys to be conducted for the addressee to constitute a healthy indicator. It can be argued that, in studies that are based on the analysis of secondary data, the differential feature of basic parameters such as internet usage, which is very common like literacy, will remain limited.

The use of social media is becoming a feature of political engagement in the Caribbean. This article investigates factors associated with digital and conventional political participation in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Surinam and Haiti using 2012 AmericasBarometer dataset. Based on logistic regression, attitudinal factors positively associated with digital political participation are: political understanding, support for democracy, conventional political participation, and internet usage. Digital political action is less likely for the politically tolerant. Engagement in protest is positively associated with digital political action, signing petition, greater levels of education, being male but less likely for those who use the internet. These findings demonstrate that digital political action and conventional political participation are mutually reinforcing.

Information and communication technologies shape, direct, and deter political behaviour and institutions as the increase in internet usage regulate our daily lives. The advance of internet and digital media also shape political involvement, partisanship, and ideology. Internet, as the new media, is an important information source that shapes political behaviour along with other effects on societal layers. The new technologies provide a platform for the voices of minorities and disadvantaged communities, therefore urging a pluralist agenda. They are also blamed for the recent rise of populism and polarisation by creating echo-chambers, filter-bubbles, and the “fake news.” In this study, the authors analyse the possible effects of internet usage on political polarisation and ideological extremism by utilising World Values Survey Wave 7 Data for 40 countries. The findings show that internet usage and education level decrease extremism, while safety, work anxiety, and religiosity drive people to the extreme.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations and institutions moved to e-learning and to e-working from home. With the increase in internet usage, the rate of cyber-attacks have also increased, and this was followed by the request for more cyber security behaviors from employees and students. In the current study, the authors explore the connection between cyber security awareness, cyber knowledge, and cyber security behavior. The authors measured the behaviors among students in two similar countries: Israel and Slovenia. Results show that students felt they had adequate awareness on cyber threat but apply only a few protective measures to protect their devices, usually relatively common and simple ones. The study findings also show that awareness to cyber threats mediate the connection between knowledge and protection behaviors, but only in the case that the knowledge is specific with regard to IT protection courses. Results, implications, and recommendations for effective cyber security training programs for organizations and academic institutions are presented and discussed.
