The partition lattice and noncrossing partition lattice are well studied objects in combinatorics. Given a graph $G$ on vertex set $\{1,2,\dots, n\}$, its bond lattice, $L_G$, is the subposet of the partition lattice formed by restricting to the partitions whose blocks induce connected subgraphs of $G$. In this article, we introduce a natural noncrossing analogue of the bond lattice, the noncrossing bond poset, $NC_G$, obtained by restricting to the noncrossing partitions of $L_G$. Both the noncrossing partition lattice and the bond lattice have many nice combinatorial properties. We show that, for several families of graphs, the noncrossing bond poset also exhibits these properties. We present simple necessary and sufficient conditions on the graph to ensure the noncrossing bond poset is a lattice.  Additionally, for several families of graphs, we give combinatorial descriptions of the Möbius function and characteristic polynomial of the noncrossing bond poset. These descriptions are in terms of a noncrossing analogue of non-broken circuit (NBC) sets of the graphs and can be thought of as a noncrossing version of Whitney's NBC theorem for the chromatic polynomial. We also consider the shellability and supersolvability of the noncrossing bond poset, providing sufficient conditions for both. We end with some open problems.

There is a well-known bijection between parking functions of a fixed length and maximal chains of the noncrossing partition lattice which we can use to associate to each set of parking functions a poset whose Hasse diagram is the union of the corresponding maximal chains. We introduce a decomposition of parking functions based on the largest number omitted and prove several theorems about the corresponding posets. In particular, they share properties with the noncrossing partition lattice such as local self-duality, a nice characterization of intervals, a readily computable Möbius function, and a symmetric chain decomposition. We also explore connections with order complexes, labeled Dyck paths, and rooted forests.

For a finite commutative ring R and a positive integer k ≥ 2, we construct an iteration digraph G(R, k) whose vertex set is R and for which there is a directed edge from a ∈ R to b ∈ R if b = ak. In this paper, we investigate the iteration digraphs G(𝔽prCn, k) of 𝔽prCn, the group ring of a cyclic group Cn over a finite field 𝔽pr. We study the cycle structure of G(𝔽prCn, k), and explore the symmetric digraphs. Finally, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on 𝔽prCn and k such that G(𝔽prCn, k) is semiregular.

Let Ψ(G) be the family of all local maximum stable sets of graph G, i.e., S ∈ Ψ(G) if S is a maximum stable set of the subgraph induced by S ∪ N(S), where N(S) is the neighborhood of S. It was shown that Ψ(G) is a greedoid for every forest G [15]. The cases of bipartite graphs, triangle-free graphs, and well-covered graphs, were analyzed in [16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 24]. If G1, G2 are two disjoint graphs, and B is a bipartite graph having E(B) as an edge set and bipartition {V (G1), V (G2)}, then by B-join of G1, G2 we mean the graph B (G1, G2) whose vertex set is V (G1) ∪ V (G2) and edge set is E(G1) ∪ E(G2) ∪ E (B). In this paper we present several necessary and sufficient conditions for Ψ(B (G1, G2)) to form a greedoid, an antimatroid, and a matroid, in terms of Ψ(G1), Ψ(G2) and E (B).

In the paper, by convolution theorem for the Laplace transforms and analytic techniques, the author finds necessary and sufficient conditions for complete monotonicity, monotonicity, and inequalities of several functions involving polygamma functions. By these results, the author derives a lower bound of a function related to the sectional curvature of the manifold of the beta distributions. Finally, the author poses several guesses and open problems related to monotonicity, complete monotonicity, and inequalities of several functions involving polygamma functions.

This paper continues the study appearing in (9) and (10) of the combinatorial properties of a matrix A of m rows and n columns, all of whose entries are 0's and l's. Let the sum of row i of A be denoted by ri and let the sum of column j of A be denoted by Sj. We call R = (r1, … , rm) the row sum vector and S = (s1 . . , sn) the column sum vector of A. The vectors R and S determine a class1.1consisting of all (0, 1)-matrices of m rows and n columns, with row sum vector R and column sum vector S. The majorization concept yields simple necessary and sufficient conditions on R and S in order that the class 21 be non-empty (4; 9). Generalizations of this result and a critical survey of a wide variety of related problems are available in (6).

Let [Formula: see text] be a commutative ring with identity and [Formula: see text] be the set of ideals of [Formula: see text] with nonzero annihilator. The annihilator-ideal graph of [Formula: see text], denoted by [Formula: see text], is a simple graph with the vertex set [Formula: see text], and two distinct vertices [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are adjacent if and only if [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we study the affinity between the annihilator-ideal graph and the annihilating-ideal graph [Formula: see text] (a well known graph with the same vertices and two distinct vertices [Formula: see text] are adjacent if and only if [Formula: see text]) associated with [Formula: see text]. All rings whose [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are characterized. Among other results, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions under which [Formula: see text] is a star graph.

In the framework of robust stability analysis of linear systems, the development of techniques and methods that help to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions to determine stability of convex combinations of polynomials is paramount. In this paper, knowing that Hurwitz polynomials set is not a convex set, a brief overview of some results and open problems concerning the stability of the convex combinations of Hurwitz polynomials is then provided.

AbstractThe restricted triangulation existence problem on a given graph decides whether there exists a triangulation on the graph’s vertex set that is restricted with respect to its edge set. Let G = C(n, S) be a circulant graph on n vertices with jump value set S. We consider the restricted triangulation existence problem for G. We determine necessary and sufficient conditions on S for which G admitting a restricted triangulation. We characterize a set of jump values S(n) that has the smallest cardinality with C(n, S(n)) admits a restricted triangulation. We present the measure of non-triangulability of Kn − G for a given G.

AbstractDifferential equations of second order appear in numerous applications such as fluid dynamics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, neural networks and the field of time symmetric electrodynamics. The aim of this work is to establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the oscillation of the solutions to a second-order neutral differential equation. First, we have taken a single delay and later the results are generalized for multiple delays. Some examples are given and open problems are presented.
