Trilobites dominantly of middle Cambrian (Miaolingian Series, Wuliuan Stage) age are described from the Telt Bugt Formation of Daugaard-Jensen Land, western North Greenland (Laurentia), which is a correlative of the Cape Wood Formation of Inglefield Land and Ellesmere Island, Nunavut. Four biozones are recognised in Daugaard-Jensen Land, representing the Delamaran and Topazan regional stages of the western USA. The basal Plagiura–Poliella Biozone, with Mexicella cf. robusta, Kochiella, Fieldaspis? and Plagiura?, straddles the Cambrian Series 2–Miaolingian Series boundary. It is overlain by the Mexicella mexicana Biozone, recognised for the first time in Greenland, with rare specimens of Caborcella arrojosensis. The Glossopleura walcotti Biozone, with Glossopleura, Clavaspidella and Polypleuraspis, dominates the succession in eastern Daugaard-Jensen Land but is seemingly not represented in the type section in western outcrops, likely reflecting the drastic thinning of the formation towards the north-west. The Ehmaniella Biozone, with Ehmaniella, Clappaspsis, Blainia and Blainiopsis, is the youngest recognised biozone. The presence of Drumian Stage strata reported elsewhere in North Greenland and adjacent Ellesmere Island has not been confirmed in Daugaard-Jensen Land. Lower beds of the Cass Fjord Formation, which directly overlie the Telt Bugt Formation, are assigned to the Guzhangian Stage. New species: Fieldaspis? iubilaei, Ehmaniella tupeqarfik.

Haroldius lyleae Daniel, Strümpher & Snäll, new species, is described and illustrated from South Africa. The new species can be easily distinguished from other species of the genus by its notable triangular clypeus lacking the distinctive mid-anterior indentation and denticles present in other Haroldius Boucomont, 1914 species. Monomorium albopilosum Emery, 1895 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) is recorded as a possible ant host of the new species. Haroldius modestus (Janssens, 1953) is recorded from Zimbabwe for the first time, and Haroldius convexus (Philips & Scholtz, 2000) is now recorded from the North West and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces of South Africa as well.

The present report provides information on 20 pontoniine shrimp taxa from the island of Socotra, collected by Dr Michael Apel, including two new species, of the genera Dactylonia Fransen and Periclimenoides Bruce. Thirteen species are reported from Yemen for the first time, 8 are newly recorded from the north western Indian Ocean. The record of Periclimenoides is the first occurrence of this genus in the western Indian Ocean. The number of pontoniine shrimps known from the north west Indian Ocean is now increased from 32 to 44 taxa.

The Christian Elv Formation (Early Ordovician) of Daugaard-Jensen Land, western North Greenland, is formally proposed and recognised from southern Hall Land, in the east, to western Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic Islands, to the west. The formation in its type section includes a shallow water trilobite fauna suggesting a mid-Tremadoc age; conodonts indicate the Rossodus manitouensis Zone af the North American Midcontinent Realm. Two species af hystricurid trilobites are present, of which one, Hystricurus scrofulosus, is dcscribed as a new species. The distribution of Hystricurus followed the early Ordovician palaeo-equator and was not confined by palaeocontinental boundaries. Paraplethopeltis is considered to be a subgcnus af Hystricurus.

A small fauna of middle Cambrian trilobites is described from the upper Telt Bugt Formation of Daugaard-Jensen Land, western North Greenland, and the formation is formally defined. Blainiopsis holtedahli and Blainiopsis benthami, originally described from the equivalent Cape Wood Formation of Bache Peninsula, Nunavut, Canada, are documented in an assemblage assigned to the Ehmaniella Biozone (Topazan Stage of North American usage), Miaolingian Series, Wuliuan Stage, of the international standard. Two new species are proposed: Ehmaniella sermersuaqensis and Clappaspis tupeq.

Polypleuraspis Poulsen, 1927, originally established on the basis of a single trilobite pygidium from the Cape Wood Formation of Inglefield Land, northwestern Greenland, is redescribed on the basis of material from additional occurrences in the Cape Wood and Telt Bugt formations exposed around Kane Basin in Ellesmere Island (Nunavut) and northern and northwestern Greenland. Polypleuraspis occurs together with Glossopleura Poulsen, 1927 in the Glossopleura walcotti Poulsen, 1927 Biozone of the Delamaran Stage of North American (Laurentian) usage, in middle Cambrian strata (Miaolingian Series) of the Wuliuan Stage. The type species, Polypleuraspis solitaria Poulsen, 1927, is compared with Polypleuraspis insignis Rasetti, 1951 from the Stephen Formation (Burgess Shale Formation) of British Columbia and to a new species from the Telt Bugt Formation of Daugaard-Jensen Land: Polypleuraspis glacialis sp. nov. Polypleuraspis cooperi Robison and Babcock, 2011, from the Spence Shale of Utah of similar age, is assigned to Polypleuraspidella gen. nov.

Geology of Greenland Survey Bulletin, 186, 35-41. https://doi.org/10.34194/ggub.v186.5213 _______________ Mapping and regional geological studies in northern Greenland were carried out during the project Kane Basin 1999 (see Dawes et al. 2000, this volume). During ore geological studies in Washington Land by one of us (B.T.), finds of erratics of banded iron formation (BIF) directed special attention to the till, glaciofluvial and fluvial sediments. This led to the discovery that in certain parts of Daugaard-Jensen Land and Washington Land volcanic rocks form a common component of the surficial deposits, with particularly colourful, red porphyries catching the eye. The presence of BIF is interesting but not altogether unexpected since BIF erratics have been reported from southern Hall Land just to the north-east (Kelly & Bennike 1992) and such rocks crop out in the Precambrian shield of North-West Greenland to the south (Fig. 1; Dawes 1991). On the other hand, the presence of volcanic erratics was unexpected and stimulated the work reported on here.

About thirty years ago a species of manna, obtained from the Eucalyptus Mannifera, was brought from New South Wales, and was examined by Dr Thomas Thomson, and afterwards by Professor Johnston, both of whom ascertained it to contain a new species of sugar, different from the mannite which exists in ordinary manna. The author had, through the kindness of Mr Sheriff Cay, an opportunity of examining a very different species of manna, remarkable both from its chemical constitution, and from its possessing a definitely organised structure. This substance was discovered by Mr Robert Cay in 1844, in the interior of Australia Felix, to the north and north-west of Melbourne, where it occurs at certain seasons on the leaves of the Mallee plant, Eucalyptus Dumosa, and is known to the natives by the name of Lerp.

AbstractUpper Palaeozoic conodonts are described for the first time from the North Greenland Wandel Sea Basin. In eastern Peary Land, the Moscovian species Idiognathodus incurvus and the Kasimovian—Gzhelian I. magnificus occur in the Upper Carboniferous Foldedal Formation, while an assemblage from the lower part of the succeeding Kim Fjelde Formation suggests deposition in the Upper Artinskian Neostreptognathodus pequopensis—N. clarki Zone. These datings confirm the existence in the northern part of the Wandel Sea Basin of the pronounced early Permian hiatus previously recognized in Holm Land and Amdrup Land in the southern part of the basin. The single conodont specimen found at Prinsesse Ingeborg Halvø further corrobates the local absence of this regional hiatus in the central part of the Wandel Sea Basin.

A Small collection of fossils from the Bokkeveld Beds has recently been sent to me for identification by the South African Museum, and some of them have been generously presented to the Sedgwick Museum. Amongst this material it is interesting to find some genera not previously recorded from the Cape and some new species. The majority of the specimens are in the condition of internal casts, and hence present especial difficulties in their determination, so that in a few cases some uncertainty must remain as to the generic position of the fossils. However, I am able to record for the first time from these beds the occurrence of the well-known lamellibranchiate genus Buchiola, and of a shell which may be identified with Nyussa arguta, Hall, of the North American Devonian. The genus Buchiola occurs in argillaceous nodules from the Zwartberg Pass crowded with individuals of the species which I have named B. subpalmata and with a few examples of an undetermined species. No other associated fossils can be recognised in these nodules, but I am informed that an abundant fauna is found in the beds at this locality.

AbstractPhosphatic sclerites of the problematicTarimspiraYue and Gao, 1992 (Cambrian Series 2) recovered by weak acid maceration of limestones display a unique range of mainly strongly coiled morphologies. They were likely organized into multielement scleritomes, but the nature of these is poorly known; some sclerites may have had a grasping function.Tarimspirasclerites grew by basal accretion in an analogous fashion to younger paraconodonts (Cambrian Series 3–4) but lack a basal cavity. Based on proposed homologies,Tarimspiramay provide an extension of the early vertebrate paraconodont–euconodont clade back into the early Cambrian.Tarimspirais described for the first time from Laurentia (North Greenland), extending its known range from China and Siberia in Cambrian Series 2.
