Nanotechnology is a top priority research area in a plethora of technological and scientific fields due to its economic impact and versatile capability. Among various applications, water treatment is considered among the most prospective utilization of nanotechnology, where a large number of nanostructured materials can remediate water using several different mechanistic ways. For achieving this, nanomaterials can be combined and modified with active moieties to develop different nanocomposites with structural diversity and unique physicochemical attributes. In addition, they have also been designed and integrated into membranes for improving water treatment performance. In this review, we provide an up-to-date overview of various nanostructured materials as nanoadsorbents, such as carbon-based nanomaterials, nanocomposites, and nanomembranes for remediating pesticide-based pollutants from aqueous systems using CNTs. Notably, nanomaterials are capable of efficiently removing environmental pollutants given their substantial surface area, high absorptive ability, and excellent environmental selectivity and compatibility.

: The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) has been considered a crucial serological marker for distinguishing prostate based cancer. This surveys recent progress in the construction of nanomaterial-based electrochemical immunosensors for a PSA. This review (from 2015 to 2020) reports the latest progress in PSA sensing based on the employ of different types of nanostructured materials. The most popular used nanostructured materials are metal, metal oxide, carbon-based nanomaterials, and their hybrid architectures utilized for distinct amplification protocols. In this review, the electrochemical immunosensors for prostate-specific antigen sensing are classified into three categories such as sandwich type@labeled, label free@nonlabeled and aptamer-based electrochemical immunosensor.

The implementation and evaluation of biological nitrification as a possible treatment option for the small-scale drinking water supply of a rural Upper Austrian community was investigated. The drinking water supply of this community (average system input volume: 20 m3/d) is based on the use of deep anaerobic groundwater with a high ammonium content of geogenic origin (up to 5 mg/l) which must be treated to prevent the formation of nitrites in the drinking water supply system. This paper describes the implementation and operation of biological nitrification despite several constraints including space availability, location and financial and manpower resources. A pilot drinking water treatment plant, including biological nitrification implemented in sand filters, was designed and constructed for a maximum treatment capacity of 1.2 m3/h. Online monitoring of selected physicochemical parameters has provided continuous treatment performance data. Treatment performance of the plant was evaluated under standard operation as well as in the case of selected malfunction events.

Synthetic nanomaterials have the disadvantages of large-scale investment, high energy consumption, complex production process and heavy environmental load. Mineral nanomaterials such as sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials are characterized by small size effect, quantum size effect and surface effect. Water treatment application of sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials has become an active research area and showed good development and application prospects. Based on the above reasons, this paper systematically summarizes the water treatment application of sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials, and development trend related to water treatment application of sepiolite group mineral nanomaterials were also proposed.
