The first record of Catocala helena Eversmann, 1856 (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) in Europe with notes on its distribution in Russia

First record of the nemoral Eastern Palaearctic species Catocala helena Eversmann, 1856 is reported from Samara Region as new to Europe. New localities in the South Urals and West Siberia are reported for the first time. The present records expand the species distribution for more than 2500 km to the west. The general species’ distribution and bionomics is provided. Species’ habitats in the South Urals are illustrated.

Ameiridae Monard, 1927 was previously known from Korea only after one endemic and four cosmopolitan species of the genus Nitokra Boeck, 1865, and a single widely distributed species of the genus Ameira Boeck, 1865, all from brackish enviroments. After a survey of 22 sampling sites and close to 3,500 harpacticoid specimens from various marine enviroments, we report on two new endemic species of Ameira, A. zahaae sp. nov. and A. kimchi sp. nov., from the West Sea and the South Sea respectively. They are both relatively closely related to the previously recorded cosmopolitan A. parvula (Claus, 1866), but show many novel morphological structures in the caudal rami shape and ornamentation. The identity of the cosmopolitan A. parvula in Korea is questioned, and an alternative hypothesis of a species-complex proposed. The fine ornamentation of body somites (especially the pores/sensilla pattern) is studied in detail, and proves to be a very useful new morphological tool in distinguishing closely related spacies in this genus. The genus Pseudameira Sars, 1911 is reported for the first time in Korea, after four females of P. mago sp. nov. from the South Sea. A single damaged female of Proameira cf. simplex (Norman & Scott, 1905) represents the first record of the genus Proameira Lang, 1944 in Korea, Asia, and anywhere in the Pacific. A key to Korean ameirids is also provided, and their apparent rarity in this part of the world noticed.

The genus Hartemita Cameron, 1910 is recorded from Russia for the first time. Hartemita spasskensis sp. n. is described from the Primorsk Territory of Russia. A key to Palaearctic species of Hartemita and a review of Cardiochilinae occurring in Russia are given.

Turris clausifossata, a Conoid, Turrid is being reported for the first time from Gopnath coast, Gulf of Khambhat the state of Gujarat situated on the west coast of India. Turris clausifossata was first recorded7 from Dwarka, Gulf of Kachchh, Gujarat (21°49’N, 68°55’E), but not brought to light as first record to the west coast of India. Yet, its occurrence was reported only at two coasts of Gujarat. Current research reveals that Turris clausifossata is extending its distribution range to the south of Dwarka on the west coast of India. Present study was carried out from April 2015 to March 2016 and in this study, a status of species presented in form of population dynamics and seasonal availability.

In South Siberian mountains floodplain steppe meadows can be found only within steppe and forest-steppe belts. In the eastern part of the Altai-Sayan mountain region (ASMR) these belts occupy large intermontane depressions, making up the submeridional range at 56–50° N (Fig. 1). The northern part of this range consists of four large depressions (the Nazarovo, North Minusinsk, Middle Minusinsk and South Minusinsk). To the north, the Nazarovo depression merges into the West Siberian plain. The southern border of the South Minusinsk depression is the West Sayan. The southern part of range includes the Turan-Uyuk and Central Tuvinian depressions. This study is based on the analysis of 260 geobotanical relevés made in the valleys of 47 rivers (21 — in Minusinsk depressions, 26 — in Tuvinian depressions). The set includes the relevés of steppe meadow of different river types (large, medium, small), located in different parts of the studied region. The typical feature of these communities is the permanent coexistence of steppe and meadow species with negligible part of meadow-steppe herbs. All steppe meadows under discussion are similar in appearance. Tall grasses, various in different associations, form a sparse upper sublayer. Depending on the intensity of use, the main part of the herbage can be located in the middle sublayer or in the bottom one. In the middle sublayer, grasses predominate (Bromopsis inermis, Poa angustifolia, Elytrigia repens). Herbs tolerant to grazing (Potentilla bifurca, Amoria repens) make up the bottom sublayer. We have revealed 6 associations of steppe meadows. Ass. Potentillo bifurcae–Poetum angustifoliae, Potentillo bifurcae–Leymetum dasystachyos, Potentillo bifurcae–Hordeetum brevisubulati are typical for Tuvinian depressions, ass. Artemisio laciniatae–Koelerietum delavignei, Trifolio pratensis–Koelerietum delavignei и Trifolio pratensis–Festucetum valesiacae — for Minusinsk ones (Table 1). The basic bioclimatic barrier of ASMR — the West Sayan divides their areas. The ordination of new associations along the gradients of moisture supply (horizontal axis) and richness-salinity of soils (vertical axis) demonstrates that areas of associations form two ranges — the Minusinsk and Tuvinian. Every association of the Minusinsk range has corresponding association of the Tuvinian range (Fig. 2). DCA-ordination (Fig. 3) and cluster analysis (Fig. 4) of syntaxa from the South Urals, West Siberia, Yakutia and new associations have detected the specificity of the last ones, so a new alliance Potentillo bifurcae–Poion angustifoliae (order Galietalia veri, class Molinio-Arrhenatheretea) has been described. It comprises steppe meadows of the Eastern part of ASMR.

The paper provides data on records of 29 species of aphyllophoroid fungi new for the the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area — Yugra. Among them 10 species (Amaurodon cyaneus, Amyloxenasma allantosporum, Asterostroma laxum, Byssoporia terrestris, Paullicorticium pearsonii, Pseudomerulius montanus, Sistotrema sernanderi, Skeletocutis alutacea, S. ochroalba, Tubulicrinis orientalis) are published for the first time for Siberia, and 3 species (Scytinostroma praestans, Tomentellopsis zygodesmoides, Tubulicrinis strangulatus) are new for the West Siberia. Data on their locations, habitats and substrates in region are indicated. The specimens are kept in the Museum of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the RAS (SVER).

The parasitic louse fly Ornithomya comosa (Austen, 1930) (Diptera, Hippoboscidae), known from the Oriental Region (India, Thailand, Nepal and Peninsular Malaysia) and Asian part of the Palaearctic Region (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, West Siberia of Russia and Japan), is found for the first time in Europe and in the western part of Russia (Curonian Spit). Flies were collected from the swallow species Hirundo rustica (Linnaeus, 1758) and Delichon urbica (Linnaeus, 1758) (Hirundinidae). Two possible narratives for the occurrence of this fly in Europe are discussed.

The exotic sap beetle Phenolia (Lasiodites) picta (Macleay, 1825) is recorded for the first time in Greece. In August 2018, a nitidulid beetle was found near Mt. Pelion of Central Greece. It was later identified as P. picta, a recent alien species in Europe, previously recorded from Spain, France, and Turkey. Photographic material and information on the species’ distribution, biology, and potential economic and ecological implications are presented and discussed.

The present note is the first record of the pike cichlid Crenicichla tendybaguassu for Uruguay, extending its distribution about 400 km to the South. The presence of C. tendybaguassu and their co-occurrence with other priority species for conservation in Uruguay adds greater value to conservation of the Cuareim River (Middle Uruguay River). Coloration of live breeding females is described for first time.
