A KCC-1/Al–SO3H catalyst with Si/Al = 5 was prepared to directly catalyse the synthesis of ethyl levulinate from cellulose in an ethanol/toluene co-solvent system. A reaction yield of 28.8 mol% was achieved after 6 h at 200 °C.

Solutions of tetramethyl tin trimethyl tin sulfate, di-n-butyl tin diacetate, tetraphenyl tin, and triphenyl tin hydroxide in. 100% sulfuric acid have been investigated by cryoscopic and conductimetric methods. Tetramethyl tin reacts with sulfuric acid with the evolution of methane and the formation of trimethyl tin hydrogensulfate. Trialkyl tin hydrogensulfates and dialkyl tin dihydrogensulfates behave as strong bases. It is probable that the cationic species formed are protonated hydrogensulfates rather than "stannonium" ions. Phenyl-substituted tin compounds are cleaved in sulfuric acid with the formation of benzene sulfonic acid and the complex hexa(hydrogensulfato) stannic acid, H2Sn(HSO4)6, and its anions. Lead tetraacetate gives yellow solutions containing hexa(hydrogensulfato) plumbic acid, H2PB(HSO4O6, and its anions.

Yashtimadhu ghrita is a single-herbal ghee formulation mentioned in the classical texts of Ayurveda and is indicated in sadya kshatavrana (an acute inflammatory condition or an acute wound associated with trauma). It also minimizes the pain related to the wound. The present study is intended to create a finger print profile of Yastimadhu ghrita through its pharmacognostical identification and the physico-chemical analysis.  The genuineness of the dry specimen of Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn.) was confirmed through organoleptic evaluation and cross-sectional microscopy. Yashtimadhu ghrita was prepared  as per the Sneha paka (preparation of unctuous formulations using ghee, oil etc.) procedure mentioned in Sarngadhara Samhita Madhyama khanda and the standard operative procedures specified in Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India. The test result of the finished product shows Acid value 6.7, saponification value 213.4, and Refractive index value1.455 at room temperature, Iodine value 38.7, LOD 0.64. TLC and HPTLC were carried out for the characterization of the plant material in an appropriate solvent system. A total of nine spots were distinguished in 254 nm and five spots in 366 nm during the HPTLC scanning. The Rf value pertaining to the spots were identical in the methanolic extract which indicates the presence of definite constituents in Yashtimadhu ghrita.

An aqueous-insoluble protein fraction has been extracted from maize pollen using a solvent containing phenol, acetic acid, and water (2:1:1, w/v/v) in 3 M urea. The solvent extracted 26% of the total protein from the pollen. The proteins of this fraction were subjected to polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis using the same solvent system. A comparison of the banding patterns of 10 inbred lines and a commercial hybrid revealed a high level of variability among the lines. Some variability was also observed within lines. The degree of variability was similar to that observed in maize seed proteins extracted with the same solvent. However, a comparison of overall banding patterns and individual band intensity differences among the lines examined revealed no apparent homology between the proteins of the two tissues.
