Resumen: A través del estudio sistemático de la frecuencia de los matrimonios transfronterizos entre 1780 y 1920 en el valle de Xareta situado a caballo en el límite hispano-francés, se pretende revisar la interpretación dominante según la cual los fronterizos de la zona vascoparlante fueron dándose la espalda a lo largo del siglo XIX. La permanencia y regularidad de las uniones transfronterizas demuestran que las observaciones acerca de la formación inexorable de una ruptura territorial entre vascos de España y Francia no reflejan un hecho real, sino impresiones erróneas que han sido hasta hoy repetidas acríticamente. En definitiva, la frontera posee una naturaleza muy polisémica, en tanto en cuanto es aprehendida y apropiada de modo muy distinto en función de los individuos y grupos. La línea divisoria de los agentes estatales permanece casi invisible al analizar las dinámicas espaciales vinculadas a la movilidad nupcial.Palabras claves: Frontera, Movilidad nupcial, Zona vascoparlante, Siglos XVIII-XX.Abstract: Through the systematic study of the frequency of cross-border marriages, between 1780 and 1920 in the valley of Xareta straddling the Franco-Spanish border, we aim to revise the dominant interpretation according to which the frontier population of the Basque country turned their back on their neighbours during the 19th century. The permanence and regularity of cross-border nuptial unions show that remarks about the establishment of a permanent territorial divide between Basques in France and Spain do not relate to a real fact and are thus erroneous impressions that have been repeated uncritically. Ultimately, the border is polysemic, as the range of actors and groups apprehended and appropriated it very differently. When analysing the spatial dynamics linked to nuptial mobility, the dividing line of the State is almost invisible.Key words: Boundary, Nuptial Mobility, Basque-speaking área, 18th-20th centuries.

From the standpoint of modern ideas about regionalization, cross-border regions and the activity geospatial interpretation of political geography and geopolitics as directions exploring geopolitical relations, the article considers the content of the geopolitical aspect of cross-border regionalization and emerging regions. It is revealed as a system of cross-border geopolitical relations and regions of various types, due to the diverse properties of interacting entities and the surrounding geospace. The typological differences of geopolitical features of transboundary regions are highlighted. Five types of political foundations and features for classifying geopolitical transboundary regions were identified: according to the status of political borders (international or domestic); by type of cross-border activity; on the legal status (the correlation of regionalization de jure and de facto is discussed); according to historical and geographical features; by complementarity (regions of cooperation or conflict). Four grounds for classifying regions according to their geospatial features are also highlighted: spatial scale (both in topological and metric terms); the specifics of the material environment - territorial, aquatic and others; spatial dynamics of processes; geospatial structure. A total of about forty specific types of cross-border regionalization are described.

Three powerful spatial dynamics are at work in the analysis of a country’s political orbit. One is the classic remit of the international relations between states. The second is the mainstream remit of political analysis, the national dialogue – sometimes open, often constrained – between the state and its inhabitants. In addition, the third is the cross-border space between the state and its citizens who – as diaspora, exiles, and migrants – live in other countries. Too often, each is analysed in isolation, part of the intellectually unedifying division of academic work. In this chapter, we explore where contemporary Iranian politics exists and how it is played out through each of these political geographies.

The abolition of the artificial impediments of cross-border interaction inside the European Union, has released dynamics that have influenced significantly the economic space at the frontiers. In contrast, at the European Union external borders, the constraints concerning cross-border interaction with third countries have become more tangible in the sphere of reality. Under this framework, a new mix of opportunities and the threats seems to come forth together with a new political, social and economic map that redefines the notion of vicinity. In the present article, the study of the 'border effect' in Europe is attempted through the investigation of the basic determinants of the spatial dynamics of cross-border interaction. The findings of the article contribute to the better understanding of the 'border effect' with significant implications for both theory and policy.

This article explores the spatial dynamics of agrofuels. Building on categories from the field of critical spatial theory, it shows how these categories enable a comprehensive analysis of the spatial dynamics of agrofuels that links the macro-structures of the global political economy to concrete, place-based struggles. Four core socio-spatial dynamics of agrofuel politics are highlighted and applied to empirical findings: territorialization, the financial sector as a new scale of regulation, place-based struggles and transnational spaces of resources and capital flows.
