Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) continues to grow in use as an important research analysis tool in Information Systems research. While evaluating SEM results and interpreting them depends on a variety of reported details, SEM results continue to be reported in an inconsistent manner. Key reporting elements are discussed with regard to contemporary practices which can serve as a guide for future submissions and reviewing. This chapter contributes to the literature by providing an overview of important considerations in reporting results from covariance-based structural equation modeling execution and analysis. It incorporates models and other examples of EQS, one of the leading SEM software applications. While EQS is increasingly used by IS researchers, exemplars of its code and output have not been well published within the IS community, overly complicating the reviewing process for these papers.

The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the effect of work motivation, competence and workload on the performance of employees in the Municipality of Semarang. Population in this research is 147 administrators of local property in Semarang City Government. Using the Slovin formula, 108 samples were obtained. The analysis tool in this study using the Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling with the help of software applications SmartPLS version 3.2.7. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that work motivation has a positive effect on employee performance, competence has a positive effect on employee performance, workload does not affect employee performance, work discipline does not affect employee performance, work discipline strengthens the influence of work motivation on employee performance, and work discipline cannot moderate the influence of competence on employee performance

Partial Least Squares (PLS) is an efficient statistical technique that is highly suited for Information Systems research. In this chapter, the authors propose both the theory underlying PLS and a discussion of the key differences between covariance-based SEM and variance-based SEM, i.e., PLS. In particular, authors: (a) provide an analysis of the origin, development, and features of PLS, and (b) discuss analysis problems as diverse as the nature of epistemic relationships and sample size requirements. In this regard, the authors present basic guidelines for the applying of PLS as well as an explanation of the different steps implied for the assessment of the measurement model and the structural model. Finally, the authors present two examples of Information Systems models in which they have put previous recommendations into effect.

Structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques have significant potential for assessing and modifying theoretical models. There have been 171 applications of SEM in IS research, published in major journals, most of which have been after 1994. Despite SEM’s surging popularity in the IS field, it remains a complex tool that is often mechanically used but difficult to effectively apply. The purpose of this study is to review previous applications of SEM in IS research and to recommend guidelines to enhance the use of SEM to facilitate theory development. The authors review and evaluate SEM applications, both component-based (e.g., PLS) and covariance-based (e.g., LISREL), according to prescribed criteria. Areas of improvement are suggested which can assist application of this powerful technique in IS theory development.

This study aimed to find out the influence of entrepreneurial orientation, innovation and marketing capabilities on competitive advantage. The research population comprised Fish Processing Business in Semarang City. The sample was selected by means of the purposive sampling technique. The sample was 100 companies. The data were collected by a questionnaire, interviews, and documentation. This research uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis technique using AMOS 24.0 analysis tool. The test results using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis techniques indicate that the model is in accordance with population data. The results of the study showed that entrepreneurship oriented , innovation and marketing capabilities had a significant positive effect on competitive advantage. Used by analyzer for example validity test, test reliabilitas, and hipotesis test use modelling equation structural (SEM).

This study aims to examine the effect of training and empowerment of the competence and performance of teachers in UPTD-PK Dewantara. The data used in this research are as many as 152 teachers in SMA Negeri 1 Dewantara, SMA Negeri 2 Dewantara and SMK Negeri 1 Dewantara. The analysis tool used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS-20 (Analysis of Moment Structure). The results showed that training and empowerment have a significant influence on competence. Training, empowerment and competence have a significant effect on performance. Competence mediates in full mediation the effect of training on performance. Competence mediates partially mediation in the effect of empowering performance. Keywords: Training, Empowerment, Competence, Performance.

Purpose Following the call for awareness of accepted reporting practices by Ringle, Sarstedt, and Straub in 2012, the purpose of this paper is to review and analyze the use of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) in Industrial Management & Data Systems (IMDS) and extend MIS Quarterly (MISQ) applications to include the period 2012-2014. Design/methodology/approach Review of PLS-SEM applications in information systems (IS) studies published in IMDS and MISQ for the period 2010-2014 identifying a total of 57 articles reporting the use of or commenting on PLS-SEM. Findings The results indicate an increased maturity of the IS field in using PLS-SEM for model complexity and formative measures and not just small sample sizes and non-normal data. Research limitations/implications Findings demonstrate the continued use and acceptance of PLS-SEM as an accepted research method within IS. PLS-SEM is discussed as the preferred SEM method when the research objective is prediction. Practical implications This update on PLS-SEM use and recent developments will help authors to better understand and apply the method. Researchers are encouraged to engage in complete reporting procedures. Originality/value Applications of PLS-SEM for exploratory research and theory development are increasing. IS scholars should continue to exercise sound practice by reporting reasons for using PLS-SEM and recognizing its wider applicability for research. Recommended reporting guidelines following Ringle et al. (2012) and Gefen et al. (2011) are included. Several important methodological updates are included as well.

Product cues have been identified as a major factor and are used by customers when they evaluate a product before deciding to buy. Customers evaluate products based on the product manual cues; generally, they use the brand, design and price, and produce quality perception and ceases on purchase intentions. This process also occurs in the prospective buyer's sport shoes X that have the largest sales in Indonesia. Therefore, the researchers are interested to test whether there is a relationship between the product cues on the quality perception and purchase intention for sports footwear products. This research was done by using a survey for the data collection, by distributing the questionnaires to 161 respondents. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Lisrel analysis tool. The result showed that the product cues have an influence mediated by the quality perception on purchase intentions. This study suggests that the perception of quality is as a full mediating variable between products cues and purchase intention.

This study aims to test and analyze factors that influence the motivation of Muzakki to pay zakat through religiosity, understanding of zakat, level of income, environmental, accountability of zakat management agency and socialization of zakat management agency. The population in this research is all Muslim SMEs in Semarang, while 100 Muslim SME owners in Semarang that are randomly sampled. Data is collected using the questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and  Partial Least Square (PLS) with  Smart analysis tool PLS 3.0. The study shows that religiosity, understanding of zakat, income level, environment, and accountability of the zakat management agency has a positive and significant influence on the motivation of Muzakki to pay Zakaah. While socialization of zakat management zakat has no significant effect.
