Exploring the Changing Role of Children as Consumers in India

The chapter would explore the growing importance of children as consumers. The chapter would first discuss the importance, growth and views on consumer socialization theory. The chapter would then take the discussion forward by introducing the change in role of children not just as learners but as influencers. This section of the chapter would conclude by initiating a discussion to understand the similarity and differences in the two theories—consumer socialization and reverse socialization. The theoretical overview provides the researchers a premise to integrate consumer socialization theory and reverse socialization to understand how children and parents acquire learning properties to be a consumer. Based on the two theories a conceptual model was developed by the author to understand and indicate the process of children and parents becoming consumers (Sharma & Sonwaney, 2014). The chapter would further discuss the changing social and economic scenario in developing nations with special focus on India.

Based on real-world experiences using a variety of digital games, this chapter presents a guide for teachers on how to use games-based learning in the classroom. Beginning with a theoretical overview of the change in learning styles and the growing digital divide, the impact that games have had on young people will be discussed. The limitations faced and ways to overcome these to create effective pedagogical experiences when using games will follow. The second half of this chapter aims to provide a practical guide for teachers wishing to integrate games into their classrooms, beginning with an overview of the changing role of the teacher, moving onto preparation guidelines, before finally discussing assessment and practical implementations.

<p class="3">The article argues that the ongoing usage of audio visual media is falling behind in terms of educational quality compared to prior achievements in the history of distance education. After reviewing some important steps and experiences of audio visual digital media development, we analyse predominant presentation formats on the Web. Special focus is put on recent development of new ways to generate graphics and to create animation sequences, as well as on the video presentation formats used in MOOCs. We conclude that the "new" features are in no way disruptive innovations in distance education and that the potential of video has not been sufficiently exploited. Adequate incentives to use these media for collaborative learning have not been provided and student-generated video content is at present just starting to be considered useful in instructional design.</p>

The paper focuses on the process of educational space expansion and the inclusion of new elements into it. School has been steadily losing its positions as the main educational institution. The paper explores the changing role of cinema in educational process, and its transformation from an alternative tool for visualizing and explaining the subject to an independent institution. The role of cinema in the formation of identity is defined. The paper includes the analysis of production of children’s feature and animation films in Russia. A special focus is on Russian national films and the role of government in their production and quality control.
