Development of Innovative User Services

Higher education is continuously progressing toward globalization and openness, and models of teaching, scientific research, and learning are rapidly changing. Due to macro-environmental changes, academic libraries must actively adjust their functional positions and explore new methods for user services. To satisfy users' increasingly diversified needs for information, academic libraries are continuously extending user service functions, and gradually evolving from libraries that provide lending services to centers of learning, teaching services, knowledge, and culture on campus. Through functional repositioning, academic libraries are constructing more systematic and diversified user service systems by improving basic services, deepening support services, extending services in teaching assistance, boosting services for cultivating humanistic literacy, developing spatial services, and expanding new technical services. Throughout the above-mentioned development processes, there has been a clear trend of change in terms of the contents, marketing, and cooperation of user services.

The aim of this research was to investigate how the term inclusion can be applied to the support of dyslexic students within higher education in England and Wales. It explored the additional support services offered to dyslexic students by academic libraries and whether they are moving towards a more ‘dyslexic friendly’ environment. The research investigated the following issues: 1. Whether the additional support services provided by academic libraries meet the needs of dyslexic students 2. How inclusive is dyslexia provision within academic libraries? The methodological approach was primarily qualitative with some quantitative elements - a questionnaire and face-to-face interviews. The findings demonstrated that the provision for dyslexic students varied across the sample group. The development of more inclusive practices within the physical and virtual library was uncovered but there is still a need for additional support for students with dyslexia. A series of recommendations is derived from the conclusions.

Abstract. Although the development of research competency is an important goal of higher education in social sciences, instruments to measure this outcome often depend on the students’ self-ratings. To provide empirical evidence for the utility of a newly developed instrument for the objective measurement of social-scientific research competency, two validation studies across two independent samples were conducted. Study 1 ( n = 675) provided evidence for unidimensionality, expected differences in test scores between differently advanced groups of students as well as incremental validities over and above self-perceived research self-efficacy. In Study 2 ( n = 82) it was demonstrated that the competency measured indeed is social-scientific and relations to facets of fluid and crystallized intelligence were analyzed. Overall, the results indicate that the test scores reflected a trainable, social-scientific, knowledge-related construct relevant to research performance. These are promising results for the application of the instrument in the evaluation of research education courses in higher education.

Myanmar is the developing country and its education system is not yet to international level. Hence, most of the young adults, who like to upgrade their knowledge global wide and to gain international recognized higher educational certificates, choose to study overseas rather than continuing higher education after their high education nowadays, that becomes the trend of young people to study overseas since the competency among the people is getting intense based on the education level in every industry. The purpose of this research is to understand that students’ decision making process of selecting university. The study will be conducted to see clear trend of Myanmar students’ decision making of studying in abroad. This research will cover the context of what is Myanmar students’ perception of abroad, how they consider among other countries and explaining those factors which determine Myanmar students’ choice and how they decide to study abroad.

More and more manufacturing firms are transitioning to more serviced based offerings. It has been shown that a useful integrated bundle of services through a complimentary product can be a better business model than just adding support services to a product as tactical responses to customer needs. In order for companies to be able to define these integrated bundles in an efficient and systematic manner, a process is needed. In the paper we propose a new method to define modular services, ones that can be leveraged efficiently as driving entities, and which can be provided using several product offers. The service modules consist of services modularized for leveraging across several products. The method builds upon the foundations in product platform and modularity research extending it to product service systems. Further, we introduce alternative service modular platform leveraging strategies.
