Managing Organizations Through Employee Engagement

Recently, a lot of research is being conducted espousing the role of employees in achieving growth and sustainability. Everyday organizations are confronted with unforeseen changes in the form of innovations, competition, and legal compliances. These factors may hinder the organizational growth. Research studies have shown that employees play a crucial and important role in the long-term success of the organization as overall performance is a result of employees' enhanced productivity, which is an outcome of motivation, satisfaction, and engagement. An employee is said to be engaged if he/she attains the objectives, stays committed with the organization, and represents the company. High engagement of an employee with the organization leads to various organizational outcomes like high productivity and profitability, customer satisfaction, and reduced turnover of employees. The chapter explicates the concept of employee engagement and its drivers and relevance in the current scenario. Furthermore, various practices implemented by Indian organizations have also been discussed in the chapter.

High-road approach organizations deploy commitment-based / high performance working HRM systems and see employees as a sales driver rather than a cost driver They have a long-term perspective and make more investment in their HR by paying them above the industry average and implement policies and practices that focus on employee engagement, satisfaction, and service orientation to enhance organizational performance. This research views compensation and benefits practices through the lens of a high-road approach and provides various frameworks to emphasize the role of the high-road approach in enhancing employee commitment, engagement, loyalty, productivity, and retention thus, leading to healthier organizational growth. The research provides various illustrations to explain how companies have initiated a high-road approach to compensation and benefits practices and improved their overall performance. Research also discusses the barriers to high-road approach adoption and identifies prerequisites for its successful implementation.

Research on engagement has gained considerable attention in recent years as it is a strong predictor of a range of positive individual and organizational outcomes. There is a question of why the level of the engagement is different from employee to employee in an organization, though they are provided with the same resources. This study aims to investigate the influence of fit perception on engagement and the role of the employee’s psychological condition (work meaningfulness) on this relationship. This study mainly employed a survey research strategy, and data were primarily garnered from a questionnaire. This study was conducted among 145 respondents from the public sector organizations in Sri Lanka. Partial least-square structural equation modelling was employed to analyse the generated data. In this study, the researcher has conceptualized fit perception as a higher order construct comprising Person Job fit and Person Organization fit. The study revealed that fit perception positively influences employee engagement, and this relationship is mediated by work meaningfulness. This study contributes to the literature by deepening the understanding of the fit perception and engagement relationship by introducing work meaningfulness as a mediator variable. By highlighting how engagement is influenced by fit perception and work meaningfulness, this study facilitates practitioners to build and maintain an engaged workforce. Further contributions of this study, the avenue for future research, and study limitations are presented in detail at the end of this article.

This entry will review the state of the art in AI, with a particular focus on applications in marketing. Based on the current capabilities of AI in marketing, the author's explore the new rules of engagement. Rather than simply targeting consumers, the marketing effort will also be directed at the algorithms controlling the consumers' virtual personal assistants (VPAs). Rather than exploiting human desires and weakness, marketing will need to focus on meeting the user's actual needs. The level of customer satisfaction will be even more critical as marketing will need to focus on establishing and maintaining a reputation in competition with those of similar offerings in the marketplace. This entry concludes with thoughts on the long-term implications, exploring the role of customer trust in the adoption of AI agents, the security requirements for agents and the ethical implications of access to such agents.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to determine the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction and loyalty and the mediating role of customer satisfaction in the supermarket sector.Design/methodology/approachIn total, 480 supermarket customers participated in an intercept survey in four urban centres of Fiji. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the level of service quality provided by supermarkets, and inferential statistics to determine the gap between customer's service quality expectations and perceptions and to test the research hypotheses.FindingsThe findings indicate service quality of supermarkets is perceived as being unsatisfactory, service quality significantly affects customer satisfaction and loyalty and customer satisfaction partially mediates the relationship between service quality and customer loyalty reducing customer's perceptions of service quality, leading to lower customer loyalty.Practical implicationsThis study provides an indication as to where supermarkets should target their marketing attention and scarce corporate resources and may help in their efforts to service, satisfy, retain and attract more long-term loyal customers in the increasingly competitive supermarket sector. This research could inform government policy makers in sequencing the supermarket sector transformation and assist local supermarkets to adapt to this changing retail landscape.Originality/valueThis study advances our understanding of the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction and loyalty and the mediating role of customer satisfaction in the supermarket sector.

Employer branding is an intriguing junction of marketing and human resource management, where the positive intangible perception of the employer makes the organization a valuable. It is antecedents and outcomes have been tried and tested. However, there is a need to empirically test how employer branding lures the employees to perform well and to remain loyal to the employer. This study aimed to find the mediating impact of employee engagement between the relationships of employer branding and performance of the employees and their intention to stay in the companies. By using the structural equation model (SEM), the results revealed the full mediation role of employee engagement in between employer branding and employee performance and their intention to stay. The current global economic challenges force each country to survive for the prosperity of its people. The banking sector, as one of the economic regulators, also helps to grow GDP. In this effort, the bank continues to strive to maintain customer satisfaction and build long-term relationships. Although many studies examine satisfaction, there are no studies that reveal the role of punctuality and convenience of service as solid constructs in explaining the process of bank customer loyalty behavior. The purpose of this article is to examine the relationship between timeliness and service convenience to satisfaction-mediated loyalty. This paper is a conceptual study so that there are several prepositions explained. The implications of this article are expected to give alternative insight to marketing literature, especially in the field of banking marketing, as well as a foundation that can later be investigated empirically for future researchers.

Employee voice which refers to the collective bargaining of employees in an organization, is gaining much attention and importance. Studies are linking the role and relationship between employee voice with many important individual and organizational outcomes. To understand its current state and influence, the present study tested employee voice and its influence on employee engagement and business performance. Following the relationship hypothesized model, the current study applied structural equation modeling using Smart PLS 3 and found a significant relationship between employee voice and business performance. In addition, the study also found significant influence of employee voice on employee engagement and business performance. The study also found that employee engagement was mediating the relationship between employee voice and business performance. The results confirm that employees who have the freedom and opportunity to share their ideas, opinions, and input in decision-making are likely to show high engagement, which contributes to increasing business performance. The study results offer important findings based on which implications are drawn for theory and practice for businesses aspiring to increase performance.

Benchmarking is one of the methods of widespread use in practice and in management theory, benefiting from continuous development. This article intends to identify and analyze the perspective of benchmarking in romanian smes from the perspective of quality, cost, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. The results show that for many romanian organizations, benchmarking is still a little overlooked, on the one hand because of the lack of necessary financial resources, on the other hand, of a poor awareness of the importance of these investments in the medium and long term.

Generally, the current scenario in the hyperactive corporate world, and specifically in the telecom sector, renders companies to compete concurrently on two fronts: Expansion of their customer base and the retention of their current customers. In order to explore and examine the latter concept, the current study hypothesizes the effects of sustainable service quality on customer loyalty with a mediating role of customer satisfaction conceptualized through the reciprocity theory. The study also considers the suggested moderating role of switching cost by theorizing the Apostle model. Pertinently, the satisfied customer may not be loyal if the switching cost is low, since the dynamics of the switching cost provide a useful insight into the phenomenon of retaining the customers through customer satisfaction. The research opts for explanatory study where data were conveniently collected. The study has used the PROCESS macro model 4 and 14 to analyze the data. Findings reveal that the role of customer satisfaction is significant but the effect of the switching cost was considered to be insignificant, elucidating that a satisfied customer will remain loyal even if the switching cost is low. It means that sustaining service quality longitudinally did not affect customer loyalty in the presence of a low switching cost. With a view to complement the study, managerial implications of a switching cost have also been discussed.
