Small Company (Y)

In many ways, the dynamics of this smaller company is diametrically opposed to that of the previous one. Its mission one may recall was different, it was an IS management consultancy with a staff base that was senior (40s/50s) in age with relatively long years of IT experience. Although the sample population was very small (7), it was essentially a small firm with basically a mono-cultural (Anglo-Celtic) staff mix. Coupling these basic parameters with a physical layout that represents only one floor of a building, punctuated perhaps by a couple offices there is clearly a very different organisational structure. Organisation Y provides an opportunity to examine likely knowledge flows in a small entrepreneurial or professional firm.

This article examines the active client of management consultancy as a key agent in managing and mediating knowledge flows across organizational boundaries. From a qualitative study of a particular case of active clients—internal consultants managing their external counterparts—three boundary-spanning roles are identified. Active clients can act as a gatekeeper, broker and partner with respect to both consultants and the knowledge they bring. These roles are shown to vary according to a client’s expertise, formal project responsibilities and personal reputation, as well as the different phases of consulting projects. They not only elucidate an otherwise neglected or static dimension of management consultancy—client activity—but highlight the dynamic and essentially political character of serving as knowledge barriers and/or bridges in the intermediation and co-production of management knowledge across organizational boundaries.

Chapter V revealed how the three IT organisations varied in their structure. Remember that Organisation X is an insurance company; however what is referred to as Organisation X herein is the IT support group for the wider organisation. Organisation Y differed insofar as it is a management consultancy with a specialisation in IT; to that end, the staff under study represent the core of the organisation, rather than the IT support staff, as is the case in Organisation X. Organisation Z is a home and office furniture supply company, however what is referred to as Organisation Z here is the IT group providing support to the logistics of storing and selling furniture items. Thus, Organisation X and Z under study are similar insofar as they provide a service role to the wider organisation. Organisation Y differs, as its mission is to deliver IT/IS managerial expertise. The population of the organisations not surprisingly reflects this. For example Organisation Y is made up of predominantly senior mono-cultural “first language is English” personnel. The other two organisations have a much broader staff profile with a far higher level of multiculturalism. There are a couple of other issues need to be clarified at this stage because they are continually referred to from now on. They are the Australian Computer Society (ACS, 2000; ACS SA, 1999) levels because of the nature of their role in relation to employee experience in each of the firms. It is also considered worthwhile to provide a short discussion on the selection of our “expert” sample population at this stage.

AbstractThe nongravitational motion of five “erratic” short-period comets is studied on the basis of published astrometric observations. We present the precession models which successfully link all the observed apparitions of the comets: 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, 31P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 2, 32P/Comas Solá, 37P/Forbes, and 43P/Wolf-Harrington. We used the Sekanina's forced precession model of the rotating cometary nucleus to include the nongravitational terms into equations of the comet's motion. Values of six basic parameters (four connected with the rotating comet nucleus and two describing the precession of spin-axis of the nucleus) have been determined along the orbital elements from positional observations of the comets. The solutions were derived with additional assumptions which introduce instantaneous changes of modulus of reactive force,Aand of maximum of cometary activity with respect to perihelion time. The present precession models impose some contraints on sizes and rotational periods of cometary nuclei. According to our solutions the nucleus of 21P/Giacobini-Zinner with oblateness along the spin-axis of about 0.32 (equatorial to polar radius of 1.46) is the most oblate among five investigated comets.

The article deals with the leading participants of the global oil market and examines its basic parameters in 2002. The authors point out such demand-creating countries as the USA, the EU15 and the Asia Pacific, discuss their specifics as oil-consuming countries and their ability to influence the global oil market. The supply is provided by OPEC countries, US oil corporations and partly independent oil producers.

This paper analyzes the basic parameters of monetary policy in 2000-2015 in Russia. We provide the overview of tools and objectives of monetary policy of the Bank of Russia and identify the periods of homogeneity of monetary policy regimes: from money base targeting to exchange rate targeting and finally, to interest rates policy. On the basis of this research we develop the recommendations for further quantitative research aimed at estimation of monetary policy effects in Russia.

This article examines the emergence of Zoroastrianism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since 2015 as a new religion inspired by Kurdish nationalism, feminism, ecologism and humanism. The author argues that the emergence of Zoroastrianism at this particular time is due to a combination of the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant in 2014, legislative change and the importance some Kurdish nationalists historically attached to Zoroastrianism as the suggested original religion of the Kurds. The article outlines the historical context of Zoroastrianism in Kurdistan, and then explores the origins, beliefs and organisational structure of Kurdish Zoroastrianism. Also discussed are the legislative changes enabling the rise of the movement since 2015. This study draws on interviews with Kurdish Zoroastrian leaders as well as with representatives from the World Zoroastrian Organization, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities.ABSTRACT IN KURMANJIJi nû ve pêxistina agir: Baweriya Zerduştî li Kurdistana IraqêEv gotar, li ser peydabûna Zerduştiyê li Herêma Kurdistanê ya Iraqê hûr dibe, ku ji 2015an vir ve wek dînekî nû yê ji netewegeriya kurd, femînîzm, ekolojîzm û humanîzmê îlham wergirtî tê dîtin.
