IPR Protection for Digital Media Distribution

Copyright protection is becoming an important issue for organizations that create, use, and distribute digital content through e-commerce channels. As online corruption increases, new technical and business requirements are posed for protecting intellectual property rights such as watermarking, use of metadata, self-protection, and self-authentication. This work is a review of the most important of these methods and analyzes their potential use in digital rights management systems. We focus especially on watermarking and argue that it has a true potential in e-business because it is possible to embed and detect multiple watermarks to a single digital artifact without decreasing its quality. In conjunction with parallel linking of content to metadata, there is true potential for real life copyright-protection systems.

This chapter gives a review of the most important of these methods and analyses of their potential use in Digital Rights Management systems. We focus especially on watermarking, and argue that it has a true potential in e-business because it is possible to embed and detect multiple watermarks to a single digital artifact without decreasing its quality. In conjunction with parallel linking of content to metadata there is true potential for real life copyright-protection systems. Furthermore we attack the problem of DRM systems’ interoperability with Distributed License Catalogues (DLCs). The DLC concept, borrowed from Web engineering, makes available (‘advertises’) content or services concerning DRM functionalities, enabling multiparty DRM eco-systems.

P2P is currently the most contentious area of Interactive Digital Media on the Internet. It continues to grow in popularity at a phenomenal rate while media producers are seemingly stuck in a cycle of who needs to be prosecuted to prevent this form of piracy, and the majority feel that content should be paid for either to own or to rent with a Digital Rights Management time bomb. An alternative method of paying for the licence to download is presented by two self styled media futurists, and they conclude that it is easier for the industry to adapt to a market based on something that continues to feel like free rather than trying to enforce a model that is clearly not working at the moment and brands hundreds of millions of Internet users criminals. One proposal is that a US$5 monthly licence would produce an income of US$3 billion to the music industry. We explore how this could be extended to the digital media.

<span>Recent growth and development of internet and multimedia technologies have made it significant to upload data; however, in this situation, the protection of intellectual property rights has become a critical issue. Digital media, including videos, audios, and images are readily distributed, reproduced, and manipulated over these networks that will be lost copyright. Also, the development of various data manipulation tools like PDF converter and Photoshop Editor has resulted in digital data copyright issues. So, a digital watermarking technique has emerged as an efficient technique of protecting intellectual property rights by providing digital data copyright authentication and protection. In this technique, a watermarked document was integrated into electronic data to prevent unauthorized access. In this paper, A robust watermark algorithm based on a 5-level DWT and Two Log was proposed to enhance the copyright protection of images in unsecured media. Our lab results validate that our algorithm scheme is robust and forceful against several sets of attacks, and high quality watermarked image was achieved, where the algorithm was assessed by computation of many evaluation metrics such as PSNR, SNR, MAE, and RMSE.</span>

In this paper, we provide a holistic survey of multimedia content protection applications in which blockchain technology is being used. A taxonomy is developed to classify these applications with reference to the technical aspects of blockchain technology, content protection techniques, namely, encryption, digital rights management, digital watermarking and fingerprinting (or transaction tracking), and performance criteria. The study of the literature reveals that there is currently no complete and systematic taxonomy dedicated to blockchain-based copyright protection applications. Moreover, the number of successfully developed blockchain-based content protection systems is very low. This points towards a research gap. To fill this gap, we propose a taxonomy that integrates technical aspects and application knowledge and can guide the researchers towards the development of blockchain-based multimedia copyright protection systems. Furthermore, the paper discusses some technical challenges and outlines future research directions.

AbstractThe paper is motivated by real problems concerning tasks assignment to workers in medium-sized upholstered furniture plants managed using the Demand-Driven Manufacturing. Although the methodology was developed for furniture plants it can be applied to other types of production plants. We involve competence coefficients, which describe the level of the worker’s skills or capabilities to perform a specific task. The competence coefficients are also used to block the possibility of assigning the given task to a worker that has no skills to do it. Additionally, we involve a dummy worker to the model which guarantees the existence of a solution to the problem. We present and discuss Integer Linear Programming Models for the posted problem that are closely related to the Generalized Assignment Problem. We also discuss the potential use of the presented methodology to solve real-life problems related to production management.
