Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in companies can be implemented to Multi National Corporation (MNC), Larger Enterprise, and Small & Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). In China, 99% of all companies can be categorized as SMEs. With a decade of high-speed economy development after entering the 21st century, traditional Chinese SMEs want to find a new management model to improve work efficiency and increase business opportunities. This study finds the factors affecting the diffusion and successful implementation of ERP in Chinese Nanjing manufacturing SMEs. It will lead to the conclusion that ERP investment and implementation, which could be used as project guideline by the management of SMEs or companies that adopt ERP in intend to implement them. The objective is to provide Nanjing’s SMEs implementing ERP with knowledge about ERP implementation factors.

As further investigation on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) investment especially in Indonesia showed that a larger capital of investment does not automatically bring more benefit for the company, for example Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation. The present research was aimed at developing a methodology for ERP Implementation which was fundamental problem for achieving a successful implementation. This methodology will be contained some factors that influenced ERP implementation success (technical or non-technical) as an activity each phase. Because, some of methodologies that common used by consultant more concentrating on technical factors without considering non-technical factors. Non-technical factors were involved in the new proposed of ERP implementation methodology, such as: top management commitment, support, and capability; project team composition, leadership, and skill; organizational culture; internal/external communication; organization maturity level; etc. The conclusion of the study was expected to be useful for private or public sectors when implementing ERP in order to gain optimal return value from their investment.

Claudio Ciborra's improvisation argument provides a realistic dynamic account of how organisational practices address technology. This was developed from the study of malleable open-ended technology, but little research has occurred to investigate the theory's validity within different settings. This paper seeks to address this gap, by examining improvisation in the context of a rigid highly structured technology. It presents findings from the successful implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system within a large international organisation, which was subsequently defined by the ERP vendor as being an ‘exemplary site’. Through the theoretical lens of Actor Network Theory, the paper reveals the improvisation, enactments and constant work around the plan that took place in dealing with the high contingencies of ERP implementation. The study extends the discussion on improvisation and contributes to an already illuminating argument. It invites practitioners to reflect on ERP implementation practice and review their evaluation methods.

Efficient use of enterprise resource planning systems is the only way to achieve competitive advantage in many industries. However, many reports indicate high failure rate of ERP implementation projects and the lack of access to benefits and advantages that enterprises have expected from ERP deployment. Managers are concerned about being ready to deploy such a system. Despite its enormous cost, implementing enterprise resource planning systems fail in practice. Accordingly, this study aims at providing a model for assessing the readiness of organizations for the implementation of ERP by using fuzzy expert systems. The model is composed of six fuzzy expert systems which are designed at two levels. The first five levels are the factors affecting the readiness of a system to produce the scores for an output. These outputs have been used as input to the final system for assessing the organization's readiness to implement the ERP system. In the design of each fuzzy expert system, fuzzy triangular membership functions were applied that had been selected for increasing the efficiency and ease of use. The Results of the model and its use in Shahid Ghazi Pharmaceutical Company show the status of readiness of the proposed model for ERP implementation. Moreover, the model shows the status of the organizations with regard to each of the factors affecting the implementation of the ERP system.

Successful implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system has many benefits for organizations, while its failure can have irreparable damages. Identifying the critical success and failure factors in implementing these systems seems essential. Therefore, evaluating the risk of implementing the organization’s resource planning before starting the project is necessary. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) should be assessed and analyzed. Then, for each risk, risk management strategies are mentioned and prioritized using the TOPSIS method. After categorizing the organization’s risks in four dimensions of stakeholders, growth and learning, process and finance and ranking them based on FMEA, it was determined that the stakeholder dimension is in the first place, which shows the effectiveness of this dimension in advancing ERP implementation. The second place is given to growth and learning, which can be concluded to what extent education and knowledge management can reveal its effect on the project. The third and fourth ranks are the dimensions of process and finance, respectively, which, although the concern of most organizations to implement ERP is the financial dimension, is in the last rank of the category. Doi: 10.28991/HEF-2021-02-01-02 Full Text: PDF

Successful implementation of ERP systems should take full advantage of the access to information, but not be constrained by many of the deficiencies associated with infinite capacity scheduling methodologies. In this paper an algorithm is developed which improves the performance of the ERP system. Lot sizing decisions based on capacity availability are used as an instrument to integrate more effectively capacity requirements planning (CRP) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP). MRP is a planning tool for a sub-set of manufacturing system specially in hierarchal multi-product, multi-period and multi-stage production planning and inventory control system. The Vehicle used for this integration is planned order release (POR) quantity. The algorithm requires minimal deviation from the MRP logic. In this sequential process MRP first issues the action notices and then the algorithm analyses the capacity situation in the work centers. The algorithm scans all planned order release quantities of lower level items in the action bucket before orders are released to the shop. For each item a delta value is computed identifying the degree orders are contributing to capacity problems. This delta is specific to each POR. The POR causing the highest overload and the one passing through the lowest utilized work centers are selected for a lot size decrease, respectively, an increase. After identifying the candidates, a series of checks analyses the suitability of the candidates for that change. The planned order release quantities of more items can be performed. Projected capacity profile after iteration will be updated and capacity requirements over a short duration are smoothed. The experiments are performed with MAP/3000 as a simulation model for this study. The developed algorithm is added to MAP/3000 as additional subroutines. The design of the experiments consists of a base test identifying the significance of different environmental parameters of MRP systems and a main test which performs a detailed evaluation. The results are evaluated using analysis of variance techniques. Most ERP systems built on the historical development of MRP and CRP systems, and the assumption of infinite capacity is affecting the performance of those systems badly. This paper is presenting an algorithm to smooth capacity problems by using the existed capacity.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a concept of enterprise system that describe the integration of the whole process in the organization. Study in this field mostly about external development paradigm on information system development. So, issue in ERP is all about how to adopt it in the organization, not about the application development. This paper reviews two methodology on ERP system implementation, one is vendor perspective methodology and new generic perspective methodology. Comparation of both methodology is done in this study by using Roger Sessions’ metric. Result is the vendor perspective slightly superior than the new generic perspective methodology.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) has become the core of successful information management and is also the foundation of corporate information systems for treating with everything related to corporate processes. The ERP implementation has been considered a complicated process because introducing process is involved with different potential conditions and factors so that they may affect the ultimate performance of ERP systems. The aim of this study is to analyze success factors of introducing SAP system for ERP implementation in small and midsized firms. The authors first found out past critical factors affecting the ERP implementation by means of literature review in order to understand results of past studies. Next, the authors widely collected the critical success factors from previous studies and sifted out representative factors to make up a questionnaire. Through the pilot study and questionnaire revision, the authors identified the content of the questionnaire and started interviewing job. When interviewing activities were finished, they began to study and analyze the data. Survey results indicate that three of the most important factors affecting ERP implementation are “top management support and commitment”, “project manager’s competence” and “communication and coordination effectiveness”.

Organizations require to enhance their firm level resources to compete in turbulent business environment. Strategic application systems, such as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System is one such resource technology that centralizes the database of the organization to enable a seamless view of the organization. However, implementation of ERP systems in organizations has not been a success story for many. ERP systems implementation brings about large scale organizational change and hence it becomes essential for stakeholders to have a reference framework for planning for various dimensions of the organization. Hence this chapter applies a General Morphological Analysis(GMA) to identify the most suitable theory to analyse ERP implementation. Socio technical theory with Leavitt's diamond model was analysed as most appropriate since they are based on the of premises organizational change at firm level. Socio technical organizational change model will enable stakeholders to analyse resources required for core dimensions of the organization for ERP implementation.
