This article considers communication issues for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from both provider and customer perspectives. SME communication infrastructure at the individual site should usually be built around Ethernet-based local area network with a remotely manageable integrated access device that enables high speed Internet access, virtual private networking, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) functionality and collaborative services. The authors further address several open quality of service (QoS) issues that include: service level agreements, signaling for quality of service and management aspects. The proposed framework for service management encompasses interfaces for QoS-aware and legacy applications, generic service level specification, functional model of service negotiation and management policies.

This study presents the proposed testbed implementation for the Advanced Technology Training Center (ADTEC) Batu Pahat, one of Malaysia’s industrial training institutes. The objectives of this study are to discover the issues regarding network congestion, propose a suitable method to overcome such issues, and generate output data for the comparison of the results before and after the proposed implementation. The internet is directly connected to internet service providers (ISPs), which neither impose any rule nor filter the traffic components; all connections comply on the basis of the base effort services provided by the ISP. The congestion problem has been raised several times and the information technology (IT) department has been receiving complaints about poor and sometimes intermittent internet connection. Such issues provide some ideas for a possible solution because the end client is a human resource core business. In addition, budget constraints contribute to this problem. After a comprehensive review of related literature and discussion with experts, the implementation of quality of service through add-on rules, such as traffic policing on network traffic, was proposed. The proposed testbed also classified the traffic. Results show that the proposed testbed is stable. After the implementation of the generated solution, the IT department no longer receives any complaints, and thus fulfills the goal of having zero internet connection issues.

In this chapter, the authors discuss the motivation, challenges, and solutions for network and Internet quality of service management. While network and Internet service providers traditionally ensured sufficient quality by simply overprovisioning their internal infrastructure, more economic solutions are required to adapt the network infrastructures and their backbones to current and upcoming traffic characteristics and quality requirements with sustained success. The chapter outlines real-world scenarios to analyze both the requirements and the related research challenges, discusses the limitations of existing solutions, and goes into the details of practitioners’ current best practices, promising research results, and the upcoming paradigm of service level management aware network connections. Special emphasis is put on the presentation of the various facets of the quality assurance problem and of the alternative solutions elaborated with respect to the technical heterogeneity, restrictive information sharing policies, and legal obligations encountered in international service provider cooperation.

Abstract: The use of computer networks at this time has proven to be a very reliable means of communication and source of information. Government agencies, offices are now using the network as a medium for disseminating information. At present, in the implementation of computer networks, it is very necessary for management to optimize the network itself. Therefore it is necessary to do QoS (Quality of Service) Analysis, in order to get optimal network. QoS (Quality of Service) is a technology that can be applied in computer networks to provide optimal services for network users. With the existence of QoS (Quality of Service) allows network administrators to be able to perform bandwidth management to handle various effects due to congestion (congestion) in packet flow traffic in the network. In performing QoS (Quality of Service), a device that can do bandwidth management to the network is built. Mikrotik Routerboard750 is a network device using Linux-based MicroticOS that can be used in the application of QoS (Quality of Service). Kata Kunci: Jaringan Komputer, QoS (Quality of Service), Mikrotik Routerboard750

A wireless local area Network (WLAN) is being widely recognized as a viable cost effective general purpose solution in providing high speed real time access to information. With a WLAN, users can gain access to shared information without being bound to fixed plug-in-point. WLAN transmit and receive data over the air and thus collectively combine data connectivity with ease of mobility. WLAN provides wireless access to multi location enterprises, small and medium enterprises. It can replace wired LAN or simply be used as extension of wired infrastructure. Besides all these advantages WLAN are also facing major problems of security. So security is the aspect where most of the researchers are working. Following are the major objective of our study : i) To study the various Vulnerabilities and attacks on WLAN and their solutions. ii) To study the some of the exiting security methods used for securing WLAN and explore the possibility of improvements in the same. Our conclusion that WLAN security is not easy, and it is constantly changing. They expose the network to a new group of hackers. All businesses need to determine their security requirements based on the application using the WLAN. Goal so that a WLAN is as protected as Wired LAN.
