In this paper, traditional adhesives were replaced by recycled plastics to make poplar plywood by hot-pressing. The results showed that the amount of recycled plastics made no obvious effects on the bonding strength, and the dry bonding strength reached the maximum with the amount of plastic film of 100g/m2. When the hot temperature was 150°C, the bonding strength no longer increased with the temperature, or even decreased. When the pressing time was 5 minutes, the bonding strength achieved the peak value, and then declined along with the extending of time. After testing, formaldehyde emission was found to be very low or zero. The new plywood is a kind of green and environmentally friendly wood-based panels. Above all, it could be concluded that the amount of plastic film of 100g/m2, the hot pressing temperature of 150°C and the hot pressing time of 5 minutes were the optimum process conditions in this experiment.

Oriented strand board (OSB) veneer technology and its performance have been widely studied in order to expand the range of OSB substrates. In this paper, OSB was a modified composite with boards as substrates, Myanmar old mahogany bark as the veneer material, and a cornstarch adhesive. Under such conditions, the optimal veneer technology was studied, and the index of the surface bonding strength and the veneer penetration rate were utilized in order to determine the performance. Two different processing technologies, cold pressing and hot pressing, were experimentally compared and hot pressing showed better performance. Subsequently, experiments were performed on the surface bonding strength and veneer penetration rate. The results show that the veneer performance of OSB is best when the unit pressure is 1.0 MPa, the hot-pressing temperature is 90 °C, and the hot-pressing time is 240 s. Furthermore, the magnitude of influence of the factors affecting the bonding strength is as follows: unit pressure > hot-pressing temperature > hot-pressing time. The research results have prospective significance for the performance optimization of OSB veneer technology.

For improving the bonding strength and water resistance of plywood bonded with soy protein adhesive (SPA), an amino polymer (AP) was synthesized using polyamines, and the AP was used to modify SPA to prepare a modified soy protein adhesive (MSPA) in this paper. The plywood was prepared using MSPA, and the effects of preparation technology of amino polymer and hot-pressing technology of plywood on the bonding strength of plywood were investigated. The results showed that the optimization preparation technologies of AP were as follow: the molar ratio of polyamine/modifying agents was 0.25/1, the pH value was 5, the reaction temperature was 70 °C, and the reaction time was 1.5 h. The optimization preparation technologies of plywood were that the hot-pressing temperature was 150 °C and the hot-pressing time was 60 s/mm. The bonding strength of plywood made from MSPA on the optimization preparation technology was 1.03 MPa, which meets the requirement of plywood type II (³0.7MPa). The MSPA bonded plywood had a rather low formaldehyde emission, which is close to that of wood itself.

Abstract Metasequoia-based three-layer parquet flooring (MPF) was prepared under the following conditions: hot-pressing temperature of 95°C, hot-pressing time of 7 minutes, hot-pressing pressure of 9 kg·cm−2, and addition of 200 g·m−2 urea-formaldehyde resin adhesive. The results showed that the moisture content, density, formaldehyde emission, static bending strength, and elastic modulus of the three kinds of parquet flooring were not much different than poplar-based multilayer parquet flooring (PPF) or fir-based three-layer parquet flooring (FPF) on the market. The thermal conductivity of the MPF was 0.195 W·m−1·K−1, which was the lowest among the three kinds of parquet flooring. The sound absorption coefficient of MPF under 11 frequency conditions in the range of 0.2 to 2 kHz was higher than that of PPF and FPF under the same frequency condition. The research results provide a reference value for the efficient use of low-quality M. glyptostroboides wood.
