It has been found that there is a very complex and chaotic phenomena in the power system and other nonlinear system. Chaos is a very complex phenomenon caused by the interaction of the parameters in nonlinear systems, its appearance will accompany the non-periodic、seems to be without rules、sudden or paroxysmal mechanical and electrical oscillation of the system, which will cause widespread blackout and disintegration of the system when the oscillation becomes serious. Therefore, due to the wind power system is a typical large-scale complex non-linear system, so that chaotic phenomena will also occur under certain conditions and chaos will influence the stable operation of the wind power system, so the chaotic research are particularly important along with the fast development of grid-connected wind power technology.

With the fast development of the wind power, security constraints of power systems have become the bottleneck of the acceptable capacity for wind power. The underdamping oscillation modes of the inter-area is an important aspect of the constraints. In this paper, an equivalent model of a power system with wind plants has been established, and the impact of the integration of the large-scale wind power on the inter-area oscillation modes has been studied based on the frequency-domain and time-domain simulations. The results indicate that the damping of inter-area oscillation mode can be enhanced by the replacement of synchronous generators (SGs) with the wind generators. The enhancing degree is up to the participation value of the SGs replaced. The conclusion has been verified by the actual system example of Xinjiang-Northwest grid. It can provide a reference for system programming and operation.

Recently, more and more people realize the importance of environment protection. Electric power generation systems using renewable energy sources have an advantage of no greenhouse effect gas emission. Among all the choices, wind power can offer an economic and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional methods of power supply. As a result, wind energy generation, utilization and its grid penetration in electrical grid is increasing world wide. The wind generated power is always fluctuating due to its time varying nature and causing stability problem. Inserting energy storage system into large scale wind farm to eliminate the fluctuation becomes a solution for developing large scale renewable energy system connected with grid. The topology diagram and control strategy are presented in this paper. According to the simulation result, it could be indicated that embedding energy storage system into wind power system could improve the access friendly and extend system functions. This paper shows that integrating energy storage system into wind power system will build a more reliable and flexible system for power grid.

This paper presents an efficient Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm for solving large scale economic load dispatch (ELD) problems in power networks. To realize the ELD, the valve-point loading effect, system load demand, power losses, ramp rate limits and prohibited operation zones are considered here. Simulations were performed on four different power systems with 3, 6, 15 and 40 generating units and the results are compared with two forms of power systems, one power system is with a wind power generator and other power system is without a wind power generator. The results of this study reveal that the proposed approach is able to find appreciable ELD solutions than those of previous algorithms.

This paper presents a model of hybrid photovoltaic-wind power system based on SysML (System Modeling Language) which is a modeling language in supports to Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices. MBSE refers to a formalized procedure of systems development through the application of modeling principles, methods, languages and tools to the complete lifetime of a system.  Broadly speaking, the modeling of power systems is performed using software such as Matlab/Simulink, DigSilent, PowerWorld, ETAP, etc. These tools allow modeling considering a particular point of view depending on the objective that is to be assessed. SysML offers different aspects ranging from specifications and requirements, structure and behavior. This study focuses more specifically on the structural and behavioral modeling of hybrid photovoltaic-wind system; the main objective is to demonstrate the use of SysML in power systems’ modeling by developing models capturing the system’s major requirements, the structure and connection between entities, the interaction between stakeholders and the system itself and lastly, the system’s behavior in terms of transition between states.

Wind energy has been connected to the power system on a large scale with the advantage of little pollution and large reserves. While ramping events under the influence of extreme weather will cause damage to the safe and stable operation of power system. It is significant to promote the consumption of renewable energy by improving the power prediction accuracy of ramping events. This paper presents a wind power prediction model of ramping events based on classified spatiotemporal network. Firstly, the spinning door algorithm builds parallelograms to identify ramping events from historical data. Due to the rarity of ramping events, the serious shortage of samples restricts the accuracy of the prediction model. By using generative adversarial network for training, simulated ramping data are generated to expand the database. After obtaining sufficient data, classification and type prediction of ramping events are carried out, and the type probability is calculated. Combined with the probability weight, the spatiotemporal neural network considering numerical weather prediction data is used to realize power prediction. Finally, the effectiveness of the model is verified by the actual measurement data of a wind farm in Northeast China.

Modern wind turbine technology has been a great improvement over the past couple decades, leading to large scale wind power penetration. The increasing penetration of wind power resulted in emphasizing the importance of reliable and secure operation of power systems, especially in a weak power system. In this paper, the main wind turbine control schemes, the wind penetration levels and wind farm dynamic behavior for grid code compliance were investigated in the Penghu wind power system, a weak isolated power system.
