In this paper, a novel CO-OFDM system using phase diversity receiver and phase estimating is proposed, theoretically analyzed, and demonstrated by simulation results. 10Gb/s C0-OFDM signals can travel in this system for at least 320km.

In this letter, we propose a novel scheme to reduce the PAPR of OFDM signals. It combined the channel estimation in OFDM system based on comb-type pilots and Flipping PTS algorithm. At the sender we insert comb pilot independently and evenly into every partitioned sub-blocks after partition. The side information of Flipping PTS algorithm as one part of the channel frequency response is transmitted. We can achieve Flipping PTS algorithm without SI. Simulation results show that performance of the new algorithm without SI is worse than the algorithm with SI. However, it reduced PAPR, increased of the data rate.

AbstractA CO-OFDM system combines the advantages of both coherent detection and OFDM modulation for future high speed fiber transmission. In this paper, we propose an I/Q modulation technique using dual-drive MZMs for high rate 10 Gb/s CO-OFDM system. The proposed modulator provides 10.63 dBm improved optical spectra compared to a single dual-drive MZM. The simulation results in terms of BER and Q factor are quite satisfactory upto a transmission reach of 3,000 km and that to without making use of any dispersion compensation. A BER of about 8.03×10−10and 15.06 dB Q factor have been achieved at −10.43 dBm received optical power.

The timing synchronization methods for dc-biased optical OFDM system are different from wireless OFDM system because dc-biased optical OFDM system use intensity modulation/direct detection. Existing synchronization methods cant be used directly in dc-biased optical OFDM system. Therefore, the new timing synchronization method for dc-biased optical OFDM system is presented. The simulation results show that this timing synchronization method increasingly improves the estimated accuracy of dc-biased optical OFDM system.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the Multi-Carrier Modulation (MCM) techniques that transmit signals through multiple carriers. These carriers (subcarriers) have different frequencies and they are orthogonal to each other. There are different parameters which alter the performance of OFDM system. In this paper, the effect of cyclic prefix length (CP) on optical (OFDM) system is investigated. Although employing a CP as the guard interval is a simple way to combat inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI), it reduces the transmission efficiency of the system. The simulation results show the effect of CP length in power receiver, penalty of power and improved the performance based on signal to noise ratio (SNR). In addition, a tradeoff is needed between reduced interference effects and transmission efficiency.
