The wind-solar-storage and other distributed generation (DG) accessing to the distribution grid and user’s interaction with the grid change the business’s forms of the traditional distribute and utilize system, and while the supplier and demander of electric power also set higher requirements on business’s functions of the smart distribution and utilization system. Based on business requirement of smart distribution and utilization, the major content and function of distribution and utilization link are discussed, including intelligent planning, intelligent dispatching, self-healing control, demand side management, two-way interaction and so on. It makes the architectures of business and the objectives of construction more clear and promotes the construction of the business system in the smart distribution and utilization system.

Self-healing is an important feature of smart distribution grid. Self-healing control for smart distribution grid covers risk prevention and operation optimization before accidents, in addition, it covers fault location, fault isolation and power restoration. The research of self-healing control theory, risk assessment, fault diagnosis and safety warning for smart distribution grid provides technical supports to help build a safe, reliable, efficient, high-quality, flexible and compliant smart distribution grid.

With the development of economic and technology, global resources crisis and environment issues have become increasingly prominent, all of these lead new challenges to the electric power grid. In the development of future power grid, Smart Grid (SG) represents a new direction of future development. Smart Distribution Grid (SDG) is an important breakthrough in SG as the last part of the power system to the user. Firstly, this paper gives the definition of SDG. Then it introduces the key technologies according to the requirement of SDG. Finally, it is concluded that SDG is the inevitable result of the development.
