This paper proposes a generic analysis framework for a grid supporting modular multilevel converter (MMC)-high voltage DC (HVDC) in a multi-infeed of line commutated converter (LCC) and MMC (MILM) system. MMC-HVDC can support the grid by compensating for the exact reactive power consumptions within the MMC-HVDC system and the varying power system conditions in the MILM system. Maximum active/reactive power capability (MPQC) curve and PQ loading curve comparison process is introduced to properly design a grid supporting MMC-HVDC. While the MPQC curve presents the maximum PQ range of the MMC-HVDC system based on the submodule capacitance value and the modulation index, the PQ loading curve presents the reactive power requirement from the power system that MMC-HVDC needs to compensate. Finally, the comparison of these two curves yields the proper value of submodule capacitance and the modulation index for sufficiently supporting the MILM system. The proposed framework is validated with detailed PSCAD/EMTDC simulation; it demonstrated that it could be applied to various power system conditions.

Future car parks will require significant power to support electric vehicle (EV) charging as there will be both an increase in the penetration of EVs and a higher demand for charging power as battery packs increase in capacity. The effective management of the charging and local battery storage can be installed to help prevent excessive increases in electrical feeder capacity; however, it is inevitable that car parks will attain significant power capability in the future. There is therefore an opportunity for car park owners to utilise this and generate additional revenue by providing frequency response services to the electrical grid. This paper describes the modelling of a car park that utilises photovoltaic power generation, battery storage, and EV charging management strategies to provide a grid frequency response service. The analysis using simulated car park data shows that it can provide a high availability in terms of service but it is dependent on the capacity of the installed generation and storage.

Fourteen triazole benzoic acid hybrids were previously characterized. This work aimed to screen their in vitro antioxidant activity using different assays, i.e., DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), reducing the power capability, FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidants power) and ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylben zothiazoline-6-sulfonate) radical scavenging. The 14 compounds showed antioxidant properties in relation to standard BHA (butylated hydroxylanisole) and Trolox (6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid). Higher antioxidant activity was observed by the parent (1) at a concentration of 100 µg/mL (89.95 ± 0.34 and 88.59 ± 0.13%) when tested by DPPH and ABTS methods in relation to BHA at 100 µg/mL (95.02 ± 0.74 and 96.18 ± 0.33%). The parent (2) demonstrated remarkable scavenging activity when tested by ABTS (62.00 ± 0.24%), however, 3 was less active (29.98 ± 0.13%). Compounds 5, 6, 9, and 11 exhibited good scavenging activity compared to 1. DFT studies were performed using the B3LYP/6-311++g (2d,2p) level of theory to evaluate different antioxidant descriptors for the targets. Three antioxidant mechanisms, i.e., hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), sequential electron transfer proton transfer (SETPT) and sequential proton loss electron transfer (SPLET) were suggested to describe the antioxidant properties of 1–14. Out of the 14 triazole benzoic acid hybrids, 5, 9, 6, and 11 showed some good theoretical results, which were in agreement with some experimental outcomes. Based on the computed (PA and ETE) and (BDE and IP) values in (SPLET) and (HAT and SETPT) mechanisms, respectively, compound 9 emerged has having good antioxidant activity.

Recent years have witnessed the booming development of wireless power transfer (WPT) via magnetic induction, which has the advantages of convenience, safety, and feasibility to special occasions. WPT can be applied to electric vehicles and ships, where high-power WPT technology is required to shorten the charging time with the increasing battery capacity. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art development of high-power static WPT systems via magnetic induction. Selected prototypes and demos of high-power WPT systems are demonstrated with key transfer characteristics and solutions. Theoretical foundation of magnetically coupled WPT systems is analyzed and the maximum power capability of coils is derived. Compensation topologies suitable for high-power applications are discussed. Four basic planar coils, namely the bipolar coil, the square coil, the circular coil, and the rectangular coil, are simulated and compared. The state-of-the-art silicon carbide MOSFET development is introduced. The power electronics converters with power elevation techniques, including cascading, paralleling and inductive elevation, are investigated. Future development of high-power WPT systems is discussed.

Self-priming pumps, important fluid equipment, are widely used in the disaster relief and emergency fields. Meanwhile, the impeller is the only rotational unit of the self-priming pump, which plays an essential part in the power capability of the pump. In this paper, impellers with different hub radii are proposed; by comparing the internal flow characteristics, blade surface load, pressure pulsation characteristics, and radial force distribution of each scheme, the relationship between transient characteristics and hub radius is obtained. The results present that the impeller with a large hub radius can not only weaken the pressure pulsation, blade surface load, and radial force distribution, but also improve the ability of the blade to work on the internal flow field. Finally, the relevant hydraulic experiment is conducted, with the difference between the experiment and calculation below 3%, which ensures the accuracy of the calculation results.

In the commercialization process of wireless electric vehicle charging (WEVC), it is essential to ensure the interoperability between diverse WEVC systems due to the wide application of various coil configurations and compensation topologies. This paper proposes a novel electrical interoperability evaluation method based on impedance indices and corresponding feasible space in the complex plane. Firstly, the electromagnetic description of the coil system is introduced to reveal the energy flow process of WEVC system. Further, two key impedance indices and their feasible space are derived and verified. Interoperability evaluation results show that the reference devices in Chinese WEVC standard GB/T 38775.6 and GB/T 38775.7 are able to achieve the requirements of power capability. Moreover, it is necessary to reduce the duty cycle of rectifier when the battery voltage rises so as to narrow down the variation of load resistance and avoid dangerous working conditions. The proposed method can effectively evaluate the electrical interoperability of WEVC systems from different manufacturers under different power or distance levels before conducting experiments.

This paper explains the concept of polarity and centres of power where the poles are divided into three types in the international system. To be a great power, the states build and maintain their power capability in the system, and that capability is growing in every period, such as the emergence of nuclear power in the Cold War era. Furthermore, the scholars of international relations have different perceptions to determine the poles after the Cold War until this era whether the international system is unipolar or multipolar or even bipolar, as several countries are predicted to be potential great power in the forthcoming years.

Power electronics medium-voltage (MV) systems must comply with the requirements defined in grid codes. These systems’ compatibility with the standards can be validated by specialized testing equipment: grid simulators. This paper presents a hardware in the loop (HiL) implementation and the simulation results of a MV multiphase DC/DC converter designed for MV DC grid emulation. By using ABB’s reliable, patented power converter hardware topology (US 10978948 B2) and by applying advanced control algorithms, the presented system can be used for special purposes, such as the emulation of fault events in a DC-grid used for the certification of other devices, or for other research goals. The presented concept of a power electronics DC-grid simulator (PEGS-DC) is characterized by high power capability and high voltage quality. In this paper, the general idea of a power electronics grid simulator applied for the testing of MV electrical systems is discussed. Then, details related to the PEGS-DC, such as its hardware topology and the applied modulation method are presented. Subsequently, the HiL setup is described. The main scope of this article focuses on model the description and presenting recorded HiL simulations.
