In Southeast Asia, milking of livestock is not common. In the Philippines, water buffalo (carabao) milk has been used since the Spanish colonial period of the 16th century. Milk is processed into cheese (kesong puti) or candy (pastillas). These customs are found in a few areas on the Islands of Luzon and Visayas. However, in 1996, following the launch of the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), the uses of modern milk have been practiced nationwide using Murrah (buffalo), which produces more milk than a carabao. This paper analyzes the dairy transition currently occurring in the Philippines from the conventional uses of carabao milk to the modern uses of Murrah milk. Intensive fieldwork was broadly conducted in conventional and modern milk use areas of the country, with water buffalo management and milk use systems researched using participatory observation and interview methods. This study delves into how the conventional uses of water buffalo milk have helped support the livelihood of special farmers and whether recent government-backed projects, such as enhancing the ability of water buffaloes to produce milk, have made carabaos dispensable. The shift to modern milk uses, which relies on buffalo milk, has become a national project, in order to improve the subsistence of peasant farmers. This paper concludes that the modern dairy farming of Murrah is becoming popular in farming societies close to the PCC and that the dairy culture has changed from being a minor conventional regional system to a major industrial farming and business system to sustain the lives of local small-scale farmers.

Based on its potential in natural resources and human resources, East Kalimantan Province has opportunity to become a beef cattle development area. The development of a corporate-based beef cattle breeding area is an approach which taken toward industrial and business-oriented beef cattle breeding. The concept of breeder corporation will create new strengths such as strengths in human resources, capital, and banking in business development, which can more open the opportunities for the success and growth of the breeder's business. The development of a corporate-based beef cattle breeding area provides opportunities, including: 1) improving the competitiveness and added value of the region and beef cattle commodities in order to support national sustainable food security; 2) strengthening the livestock business system in one area management in a holistic manner; and 3) strengthening breeders institutions in accessing information, technology, public facilities and infrastructure, capital, processing and marketing, so that the concept is expected to be applied in East Kalimantan Province.

Innovation and sustainable development have become buzzwords in the 21st century with the idea of creative destruction launched by Joseph Alois Schumpeter being the base for evolutionary economics. However, new institutional economics helps to understand the necessity of support provided to entrepreneurs and innovators by science and administration to reduce the risk of launching the said innovations. This e-book is devoted to selected types of innovation. Every type of innovation is described with the use of theoretical background and is enriched by adequate case study. Traditional division into four types of innovation, proposed by J.A. Schumpeter (1934), containing product, process, organizational and marketing innovations, was widely accepted, including European Union institutions (OECD/Eurostat, 2008). The concept of innovation has long been dominated by a technical approach to the innovation process, despite the economic arguments exposed by one of the precursors of the theory of innovation and, at the same time, the school of evolutionary economics—Joseph Alois Schumpeter. Frequently, in the context of innovation, it is indicated that organizational and marketing aspects play a part in the successful introduction of innovation onto the market. The structure of the book is based on the typology proposed by Keeley, Walters, Pikkel and Quinn (2013), which focuses on the economic character of innovations. Ten types of innovation are directly related to Schumpeter’s and Oslo Manual classification. A new set of innovations emphasize the economic side of innovation process. The technical novelties are to support new configuration, offering or customers’ experience. This new approach is based on presumptions coming from design thinking idea, leading to user—driven innovation and on cooperation with institutions and entities supporting innovation process. The chapters are devoted to every type of innovation, grouped into three major parts: innovations based on configuration, offering and experience. In the book, configuration includes types of innovations focused on innermost workings of an enterprise and its business system. Offering part contains the types of innovations, that are focused on an enterprise’s core product (good or service), or a collection of its products. The last part, dedicated to innovations based on experience, is focused on more customer-facing elements of an enterprise and its business system.

Due to the complexity of IT impacts and multiple interpretations of value, determining the IT value can be difficult. This paper introduces a conceptual framework for evaluating IT value within a single firm despite its complexity. Our research combines design science with an examination of five real-world scenarios. Using the conceptual framework, we may look at value from three different perspectives: 1) from the standpoint of diverse stakeholders, 2) from the perspective of valuing logics, and 3) from the perspective of assessment views. It’s important to consider all of these viewpoints because they help to build the foundation for understanding how specific value information might fulfill the demands of IT-related decision making and how to evaluate and communicate it. KEYWORDS: IT, conceptual framework, multifaceted, company

Abstract The broiler farming industry cannot be separated from the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) in feed ingredients, but the negative impact of the utilization of AGP has led to a ban which has been in effect since January 2018. This study aims to analyze various factors and their relationship in broiler farming, so that it can be seen how the broiler farming business system runs after the ban of AGP. The research was conducted using a survey method on broiler farmers in one of the partner companies. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively using Causal Loop Diagram modeling. The results showed that the use of AGP was not the only factor that influenced the success of broiler farming. Other factors that affect broiler farming include maintenance management, cage quality and farmer quality. In addition to the regulation and arrangement of the broiler marketing trade system, efforts or strategies to improve broiler farming business include setting production standards based on the quality of the SAPRONAK used, upgrading open house cages to semi closed houses and improving the quality of farmers, especially motivation and education.

Abstract The fishery business area in Molawe Village is a minapolitan area for capture fisheries and fish processing products it has been declared by the North Konawe district government. Existing fishery businesses are expected to be able to serve and encourage fishery development activities. However, until now there are still some obstacles that cause the development of the Minapolitan area is not optimal. The purpose of this research is to develop the concept of developing the Minapolitan Area, Molawe Village. The analytical method used includes qualitative descriptive analysis. The problems that exist in this area are that there are still facilities and infrastructure that are not utilized according to their functions, there is still a lack of types of processed products, existing institutions have not played an active role such as cooperatives and counseling and lack of market information. Through the development of minapolitan activities, it is hoped that these problems can be minimized. There are several sub-developments, namely upstream, downstream production chain systems and supporting facilities. Determine the location of the Minapolitan area development center so that it is more focused and integrated into the fisheries business system that can increase employment and business opportunities for the community.
