The optical functionalized YVO4: Eu3+/MCM-41 mesoporous composites were prepared by hydrothermal method. The structure, morphology, luminescence properties and fluorescence dynamics were studied systemically. The compared studies of the luminescence properties of YVO4: Eu3+/MCM-41 with YVO4: Eu3+ nanocrystal were performed. The results show that the YVO4: Eu3+/MCM-41 retains high ordered mesoporous structure of MCM-41. In YVO4: Eu3+/MCM-41, the intrinsic excitation bands of Eu3+ disappears and the lifetimes of Eu3+ become short. The luminescent efficiency of YVO4: Eu3+/MCM-41 is higher than ones of the YVO4: Eu3+ nanocrystal.

In this report presented are structure, morphology and luminescence properties of nanopowders based on gadolinium zirconium oxide (Gd2Zr2O7) doped by europium ions (Eu3+). The nanopowders were prepared using a flame combustion method, the most frequently used process due to the simplicity and low cost of the synthesis procedures and also due to the possibility of tailoring the size and morphology of particles. The produced material is suitable for various optical devices. The luminescence properties of synthesized nanopowders were characterized by emission spectra and luminescence lifetimes obtained by using the streak camera system. Moreover, emission spectra were obtained and compared for powders as-obtained and after additional annealing at 1200o C. Luminescence emission spectra clearly show peaks characteristic for the strong emission lines at 611 nm and 630 nm corresponding to the 5D0 ? 7F2 long lived transition.

Novel polymeric mesoporous luminescent hybrids have been synthesized by linking the binary and ternary Ln3+ complexes to polyacrylamide-functionalized mesoporous SBA-16 in situ. The excellent luminescent properties of these materials together with the highly ordered mesoporous structure will expand their applications in optical or electronic areas.

Hexagonal NaYF4:Yb3+/Er3+ microsheets were successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method assisted by sodium oxalate as a shape modifier. XRD, FE-SEM, TEM and SAED have been used to study the morphologies and crystal structure of the products. The effects of the pH values on the crystal structure, morphology and size were discussed. The hexagonal NaYF4:Yb3+/Er3+ microsheets show characteristic upconversion fluorescence at green (521-540 nm) and red (630-680 nm) corresponding to the 4f-4f transition of Er3+. The green and red emission intensity for microsheets has a great increase compared to that for hexagonal microspheres, and the intensity of the green emission is greater than that of the red one.

The BaF2: Ce3+, Yb3+ nanoparticles doped with different concentration were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The structure, morphology and photoluminescence properties were studied. In BaF2: Ce3+, Yb3+ nanoparticles, a strong near infrared emissionat 900 – 1050 nm matching to energy of Si band gap of Si-based solar cells was observed under the excitation of 5d level of Ce3+. As a downconversion luminescent convertor, the kinds of materials have potential to be applied in front of Si-based solar cells to reduce thermalization loss and enhance conversion efficiency of solar cells.
