Slopes of open-pit mine and ash storage are likely to occur the geological disasters of landslides, collapse, ground deforms and so on, due to geological structure, mining activity, etc. Lai Zhou Power plant is going to use the open-pit of Cang Shang gold mine as the ash storage field. Therefore, the long-term stability of the slope is of great significance. Through the geological investigation and analysis of open-pit mine slope, the conditions of geological and tectonic are summarized. On the basis of field monitoring, the stability of the slope is analyzed in detail. The estimated results can better correspond to the actual stability of the open-pit slope. Feasible practical control scheme and monitoring program are put forward according to the engineering practice

With the growth in demand for mineral resources and the increase in open-pit mine safety and production accidents, the intelligent monitoring of open-pit mine safety and production is becoming more and more important. In this paper, we elaborate on the idea of combining the technologies of photogrammetry and camera sensor networks to make full use of open-pit mine video camera resources. We propose the Optimum Camera Deployment algorithm for open-pit mine slope monitoring (OCD4M) to meet the requirements of a high overlap of photogrammetry and full coverage of monitoring. The OCD4M algorithm is validated and analyzed with the simulated conditions of quantity, view angle, and focal length of cameras, at different monitoring distances. To demonstrate the availability and effectiveness of the algorithm, we conducted field tests and developed the mine safety monitoring prototype system which can alert people to slope collapse risks. The simulation’s experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively calculate the optimum quantity of cameras and corresponding coordinates with an accuracy of 30 cm at 500 m (for a given camera). Additionally, the field tests show that the algorithm can effectively guide the deployment of mine cameras and carry out 3D inspection tasks.

Taking section W400 of Fushun west open-pit coal mine for the research, the interface model of fracture zone and surrounding rock was established. FLAC3D is used to analysis the influence of excavation and backfill of open-fit coal mine to the slope stability and deformation. The numerical results and analysis show that: (1) when the open-pit coal mine slope is excavated to final production line, the safety coefficient is 2.98, with the excavation, the deformation of the Fushun No.1 Refinery Factory area increases. (2) With the increase of backfilling, the slope coefficient increases to 3.32, this will reduce the deformation of the Fushun No.1 Refinery Factory area. Furthermore, the positions of the dangerous slip surface and serious deformation part of factory area should be regards as key areas. These conclusions could provide technical basis for the stability analysis of Fushun west open-pit coal mine.

The dumps in the open-pit mining area in the eastern grassland are prone to landslides due to the fragile ecological environment, so it is inevitable to reshape the dump slopes. In order to explore a more scientific method for slope shaping of open-pit mine dump, slope stability analysis were used to compare effect of three types of slope-type (wave-shaped, slope-shaped and step-shaped slope shaping method)in outside dumping site of Baori Hiller open-pit mine. The results show that the slope stability is negatively correlated with the slope angle, and the stability of different shaping slopes is realized as wave-shaped slope (F=2.711)> Slope-shaped slope(F=2.513)>Step-shaped slope(F=1.047), in which the wave type and slope type are all within the safe range, but the step type slope is unstable; in consideration of cost, stability and erosion resistance, it is better to set the slope angle of the dump to 15°.The wave-shaped shaping method of the natural dumping of the excavation field outside the Baori Hiller open-pit mine has the best effect and is worth promoting.

Instability of pit wall slopes is the most critical accident in open pit mining. The risk of damages to pit walls is proportional to the height of exposed surfaces and to the time of exposure. Among many factors governing pit wall stability, the major factor is geological structure and weakening zones in rock mass. Deformation processes are initiated in host rock mass of coal seams mostly because of undercutting of weak interlayers. Alongside with local undercutting, another cause of landslides is transition of coal mining from down-dip extraction to up-dip extraction. The sequence of mining and morphology of weak interlayers also have influence on initiation and evolution of deformations. The basic component of engineering solutions on pit wall stability control is optimization of mining sequence and methods of accessing working horizons in open pit mines. Large-scale deformation of Western and Southeastern pit walls in Urtui mine could be avoided using the optimized sequence of mining operations. For example, mining advance mostly along the curve of the Urtui centroclinal fold, with early access and destress of the eastern and, first of all, western wings of the fold could make it possible to evade from up-dip mining of coal seams and, as a consequence, to solve the major geomechanical problems in the open pit mine.
