The polyacrylamide/starch-acrylic acid graft copolymer/bentonite composites with different concentrations of the bentonite and starch-acrylic acid graft copolymer were prepared by in-situ polymerization. The influence of the concentration of the bentonite and starch-acrylic acid graft copolymer on the water absorbency was investigated. The water absorbency of 115 g/g could be achieved with the composite composed of 50wt% bentonite, 17wt% starch-acrylic acid graft copolymer and 33wt% polyacrylamide. The excellent absorption and retention performance of the composite makes it potential to be applied in the model of Rain garden.

AbstractAcrylic acid (AA) was grafted firstly onto high density polyethylene (HDPE) by in-situ chlorinating graft copolymerization (ISCGC), so a graft copolymer composed of chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) as backbone and poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) as branched chains was synthesized. And subsequently the preparation of its carboxylated ionmers was studied. This work was focused on discussing the reaction process for grafting AA onto HDPE by ISCGC and the preparing of carboxylated ionmers of CPE. In this paper, the structure of graft copolymer and the ionomer were characterized mainly by FT-IR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and graft degree (GD). The influence factors which related to the main and side reactions, including the monomer concentration, chlorine contents of the product, and reaction temperature were investigated. Additionally, effects of these factors on reaction process controlling were described. The aim of above is to investigate how CPE-cg-PAA and its sodium-salt ionomer were prepared.

Nanometer materials are widely used in the modification of polymer materials such as polypropylene because of its unique performance. nanocomposite material, which expended the application field of polymer ,is a kind of new composite materials with high performance ratio and widely application prospect .This paper adopted the surface-initiated technology to coat and modify the surface of nanosilica, which solved the problem of the agglomeration and interface compatibility of the nanometer particles and improved its dispersion in the acrylic acid, then prepared SiO2/PAA nanocomposite .The composite was characterized by infrared spectrum and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) ,etc. The research results showed that the nanocomposite prepared by in-situ polymerization technology had higher toughness ,strength and more excellent comprehensive performance.

AbstractA novel superabsorbent composite simultaneously incorporated with both attapulgite and Na-montmorillonite was prepared by aqueous polymerization using N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker and ammonium persulfate as an initiator. The effects of the clay content on swelling ability of the superabsorbent composite were investigated. The superabsorbent composite were characterized by IR, XRD and SEM. The results indicate that Na-montmorillonite was exfoliated in the composite, whereas, attapulgite kept its crystalline structure. The content of clay has great influence on surface morphology and water absorbency of the superabsorbent composite, and the collaborative effect of attapulgite and Namontmorillonite on swelling ability is superior to that of single one.
