This paper attempts to present an optimal design strategy and characteristics of high-power permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). The structures of rotor lamination, calculation of Air-gap Length, how temperature influences the performance of the motor and the calculation of Xad、Xaq under the equivalent direct axis are presented.

Abstract Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, hereinafter referred to as PMSM) has the characteristics of small size, high efficiency, high power density and fast dynamic response, etc., and more and more applications in the transportation industry. This also has higher and higher requirements for the reliability and security of PMSM drivers. In this paper, the fault tolerant control strategy of PMSM based on three phase four switch inverter is proposed based on vector control and the simulation verification is carried out.

Modern motor needs high speed, high efficiency, high power density and low pulsating torque, traditional rare earth permanent magnet motor manifests its limitation. Halbach motor is a novel permanent magnet motor. Analysis of Halbach motor based on ANSYS proves its merits: sinusoidal field, higher air gap flux and lower rotor yoke flux, which can reduce pulsating torque and improve power density, efficiency of the motor, these merits can improve its dynamic characteristics greatly.
