Using basic magnesium carbonate (Mg(OH)2•4MgCO3•6H2O) and SiO2 as raw materials, forsterite (Mg2SiO4) was prepared by solid state synthesis process. The optimal process for synthesizing Mg2SiO4 was obtained by adjusting Mg/Si molar ratio and sintering temperature. The crystal phase of the obtained Mg2SiO4 powder was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results indicate that the single-phase Mg2SiO4 powder can be obtained when the mixtures with Mg/Si molar ratio of 2.05~2.01 were sintered at 1350°C for 3h in the air. The as-prepared Mg2SiO4 ceramic samples which were sintered at 1300~1360°C showed better dielectric properties with εr=7.4 and tanδ =7.5×10-4.

Using NH4VO3, Bi (NO3)3•5H2O and Co (NO3)2•6H2O as raw materials, Co doped BiVO4 (Co/BiVO4) photocatalysts were successfully prepared by solid state method. And the photo catalytic properties were test in this work. Crystal structures of these samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The Methyl Orange (MO) was simulated as the sewage under the visible light to explorer the influence of the illumination time and the mass of photocatalyst. The visible-light absorption spectrum of BiVO4 was broadening with doping Co. It was found that the Co/BiVO4 had higher photocatalytic activity than pure BiVO4 .The reason of enhanced catalytic effect also had been analyzed and discussed in the article.

As a new candidate material for the ceramic layer in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) system, La3NbO7 was synthesized with La2O3 powder and Nb2O5 powder by solid state reaction. The stating powders with a mole ratio of La to Nb of 3:1 were mixed and then the mixture was calcined under the different temperatures(800°C, 1000°C, 1200°C) and dwell times(2h, 6h, 10h). The phase structure of the powder was observed by X–ray diffraction(XRD), and the microstructure of the sample was observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The effect of calcination temperature and dwell Time on the phase formation were examined. The results indicate that the La3NbO7 powder with single phase can be synthesized successfully at 1200°C for 10h in air, and the La3NbOsub>7 powders synthesized have an ultra-fine particle size of 0.5˜1µm with a granular particle shape. With the temperature increasing, LaNbO4/sub> was synthesized firstly and then La3NbO7 was synthesized with a mole ratio of La2O3 to LaNbO4 of 1:1.

AbstractThis study investigates the bulk density, sintering behaviour, and microwave dielectric properties of the MgO-2B2O3 series ceramics synthesised by solid-state reaction. According to the X-ray diffraction and microstructural analyses, the as-prepared MgO-2B2O3 ceramics possess a single-phase structure with a rod-like morphology. The effects of different quantities of H3BO3 and BaCu(B2O5) (BCB) on the bulk density, sintering behaviour, and microwave dielectric properties of the MgO-2B2O3 ceramics were investigated. Accordingly, the optimal sintering temperature was obtained by adding 30 wt% H3BO3 and 8 wt% BCB. We also reduced the sintering temperature to 825 °C. Furthermore, the addition of 40 wt% H3BO3 and 4 wt% BCB increased the quality factor, permittivity, and temperature coefficient of resonance frequency of MgO-2B2O3 to 44,306 GHz (at 15 GHz), 5.1, and −32 ppm/°C, respectively. These properties make MgO-2B2O3 a viable low-temperature co-fired ceramic with broad applications in microwave dielectrics.

SrBi1.8Ce0.2Nb2O9 (SBCN) and SrBi1.8Ce0.2Ta2O9 (SBCT) powders were prepared via solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the SBCN and SBCT powders have the single phase orthorhom-bic Aurivillius structure at room temperature. The contribution of Raman scattering and FTIR spectroscopy of these samples were relatively smooth and resemble each other. The calcined powders were uniaxially pressed and sintered at 1250?C for 8 h to obtaine dense ceramics. Dielectric constant, loss tangent and AC conductivity of the sintered Ce-doped SrBi2Nb2O9 and SrBi2Ta2O9 ceramics were measured by LCR meter. The Ce-doped SBN (SBCN) ceramics have a higher Curie temperature (TC) and dielectric constant at TC (380?C and ?? ~3510) compared to the Ce-doped SBT (SBCT) ceramics (330?C and ?? ~115) when measured at 100Hz. However, the Ce-doped SBT (SBCT) ceramics have lower conductivity and dielectric loss.

Abstract Herein, magnesium metatitanate (MgTiO3) ceramics were synthesised using recycled magnesia-hercynite (MH) bricks as the raw materials to achieve solid waste reusing of cement kiln refractories. The recycled MH materials were mixed with anatase TiO2 to investigate the effect of addition of doped B2O3 during the synthesis of MgTiO3 ceramics at 1400 °C. Phase compositions and microstructural studies were performed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. In addition, energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) was conducted and the dielectric properties of the samples were studied. Results show that the addition of B2O3 can promote sintering, improve shrinkage, promote densification, stabilise MgTiO3 lattice, and inhibit the formation of MgTiO3. In addition, the presence of appropriate amount of B2O3 can accelerate the material diffusion and result in grain growth through the formation of intercrystalline liquid phase. Results also suggest that an increase in dielectric constant results in a decrease in dielectric loss. It was concluded that 2 wt% was the optimum amount of B2O3 required to obtain the most favourable synthesis rate of MgTiO3 (98.2%). The samples exhibited a maximum density of 3.69 g·cm−3 and excellent microwave dielectric properties at ε r = 18.28 and tanδ = 0.086.

Mn-ferrite powders were prepared by mechanochemical treatments using MnO2and Fe2O3as raw materials. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) were employed to evaluated the morphologies and structures of samples. The results indicated that the starting mixture became amorphous stage after ball-milled for 40h, and single phase MnFe2O4could be obtained after annealed at 1200°C for 2h. In comparison with the traditional firing method , the mechanochemical method benefited achieving the higher saturation magnetization, which indicated that the samples had a better magnetic properties.

Ni ferrites doped with lanthanum with a nominal composition of NiFe2-xLaxO4(x=0.05) were obtained by mechanochemical treatments using NiCO3•2Ni (OH)2•4H2O , La2O3 and Fe2O3 as raw materials. Both series of materials were characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The results indicated that the mixture became amorphous stage after ball-milled for 30 h, and single phase NiFe1.95La0.05O4 could be obtained after calcined at 700 for 2 h. The addition of lanthanum resulted in a reduction of all the magnetic parameters evaluated.
