This paper is mainly performed to investigate T-stub connection that is described on the basis of ideal strength limit states. The determination of T-stub based on the full plastic strength of the steel beam in accordance with 2005 AISC Seismic Provisions. The T-stub connections considered herein were performed to include the T-stub component of bolted moment connection frames. Therefore, the proposed T-stub models will be evaluated by comparing the required factored bar strength. T-stub components using ten high strength bolts with wider gages are demonstrated in this design. In addition, equations for connection design will be described in this paper. Finally, new design methodology is applied to T-stub connections suggested in this study.

This paper is principally performed to survey end-plate connection are described in the next part based on ideal limit states. The determination of end-plate based on the full plastic strength of the steel beam in accordance with 2001 AISC-LRFD manual and AISC/ANSI 358-05 Specifications. The bolted connections considered herein were performed to include the end-plate component of moment connections. This study is intended to investigate economic design for end-plate connections. In addition, the proposed end-plate model is evaluated by comparing the required factored bolt strength. The end-plates using 8 high strength bolts with wider gages demonstrated this design. The equations belonging to the step-by-step design procedure are described based on complete proving of design. Finally, new design methodology is applied to end-plate connections suggested in this study.

Abstract Guidance for determining a S-N based fatigue capacity (safe life design) for preloaded connectors is included in Section 5.4 of the 2019 edition of DNVGL-RP-C203 (C203-2019). This section includes guidance on the finite element model representation, finite element based fatigue analysis and determination of the connector design fatigue capacity by use of one of the following methods: Method 1 by FEA based fatigue analysis, Method 2 by FEA based fatigue analysis and experimental testing and Method 3 by full-scale connector fatigue testing. The FEA based fatigue analysis makes use of Appendix D.2 in C203-2019 (“S-N curves for high strength steel applications for subsea”). Practical use of Section 5.4 is illustrated with a case study of a fatigue tested wellhead profile connector segment test. Further developments of Section 5.4 of C203-2019 are proposed. This included acceptance criteria for use of a segment test to validate the FEA based fatigue analysis of a full-scale preloaded connector.

The presented paper deals with the stochastic analysis of the ultimate limit states of steel‐concrete building members. The load carrying capacity of steel‐concrete columns, comprising of steel profiles encased in high strength concrete, in compression is analyzed. The first part of the paper lists assumptions for the determination of the theoretical load carrying capacity of the column. Principles of elasticity and plasticity are used to determine stresses in the concrete and steel sections. Statistical characteristics of input material and geometrical imperfections are listed. Results of the theoretical analysis are then compared with results of experimental research. Statistical characteristics of obtained results of the theoretical analysis were verified using statistical characteristics obtained from experimental research. Numerical simulation LHS and Monte Carlo methods, which take into account the influences of variability of input imperfections, were employed. The influence of the utilization of the plastic reserve in the determination of the load carrying capacity of the analysed strut is shown. The influence of the initial geometric imperfections of initial strut curvature on the load carrying capacity is also presented. Nustatytos medžiagu ir geometriniu defektu statistines charakteristikos, teorines analizes rezultatai palyginti su eksperimentiniu tyrimu rezultatais. Pritaikytas skaitinis modeliavimas LHS ir Monte Karlo metodais, kurie ivertina pradiniu defektu kintamumo itaka. High strength steels (X100 and X120) that are being considered for high pressure gas pipelines differ from conventional steels by exhibiting lower work hardening capacity, lower strain to failure and softening of their HAZ. These differences impact burst limit state and tensile limit state, in addition to crack arrest. In this paper, the impact of the variations in mechanical properties on the reliability of pipe limit states involving ductile burst of damaged or corroded pipe is examined. The paper presents the results of burst limit state analysis using state-of-the-art plastic burst models of strain hardening pipe and considering all the uncertainties that impact the margin of safety of pipes subject to internal pressure. Intact pipes, corroded pipes and externally damaged pipes are considered. A case study comparing the differences between normal strength (X60) pipeline and high strength (X100) pipeline is also presented.

The main focus of this study is to investigate the clip-angle connections are described the section based on ideal limit states. The connection components are designed in accordance with the 2001 AISC-LRFD Specifications and the 2005 AISC Seismic Provisions. In the suggested clip-angle connection, the structural beam can be connected to the column using six high-strength bolts. The slippage on the shear faying surface contributes to increasing energy dissipated capacity in the connection behavior. The design of the clip-angle connection should include these mechanical characteristics. Therefore, this study presents new design methodology that can be applied to bolted clip-angle connections. Besides, step-by-step procedures for design will be treated herein.

Objectives - focusing the study's focus on sharing tacit knowledge in non-profit organizations (NPOs) in Portugal and taking as a case study the Portuguese volunteer firefighters (FBs), we listed as objectives ascertaining the main communicational barriers to tacit knowledge sharing and identify action strategies to be implemented by these organizations, with a view to promoting this communication. Design / methodology / approach - A literature review on the barriers to sharing tacit knowledge, namely in its communicational dimension, was followed by a qualitative study, carried out with 8 Portuguese volunteer fire brigades, which allowed an analysis of the prevalence of these barriers and the determination of the main measures to be implemented, with a view to combating them. Conclusions - It was possible to conclude which are the most prevalent communication barriers in these organizations and what measures to be implemented with a view to combating these barriers and promoting the sharing of tacit knowledge by increasing more effective communication. Research limitations - This research focuses exclusively on the sharing of tacit knowledge, not considering other forms of knowledge. As this is a case study, although with very heterogeneous organizations, it cannot be replicated for different realities. Originality / value - Studies in this area, aimed at the NPOs are scarce, as opposed to what happens in the private and public sectors. The case study option of organizations such as the Portuguese FBs, unique in their action and identity, accompanies the need, increasingly recognized by society, in enabling these organizations of competences for the best possible performance, in the face of the tragic events that have occurred in recent years in Portugal.

A novel method was developed for the determination of linting propensity of paper based on printing with an IGT printability tester and image analysis of the printed strips. On average, the total fraction of the surface removed as lint during printing is 0.01%-0.1%. This value is lower than those reported in most laboratory printing tests, and more representative of commercial offset printing applications. Newsprint paper produced on a roll/blade former machine was evaluated for linting propensity using the novel method and also printed on a commercial coldset offset press. Laboratory and commercial printing results matched well, showing that linting was higher for the bottom side of paper than for the top side, and that linting could be reduced on both sides by application of a dry-strength additive. In a second case study, varying wet-end conditions were used on a hybrid former machine to produce four paper reels, with the goal of matching the low linting propensity of the paper produced on a machine with gap former configuration. We found that the retention program, by improving fiber fines retention, substantially reduced the linting propensity of the paper produced on the hybrid former machine. The papers were also printed on a commercial coldset offset press. An excellent correlation was found between the total lint area removed from the bottom side of the paper samples during laboratory printing and lint collected on halftone areas of the first upper printing unit after 45000 copies. Finally, the method was applied to determine the linting propensity of highly filled supercalendered paper produced on a hybrid former machine. In this case, the linting propensity of the bottom side of paper correlated with its ash content.
