With the three-dimensional field analysis software Ansoft Maxwell 3D, the three-dimensional finite element model of the contacts pair is established. They belong to a kind of miniature circuit breaker. The simulation is carried out in the transient magnetic field. Under the condition with or without eddy current effect, we get the position and numerical solution of the contact mechanism heat loss under different short-circuit current.

With the three-dimensional field analysis software Ansoft, we establish three-dimensional finite element model of the electromagnetic release, obtain the electromagnetic release static characteristics of electromagnetic force by simulation, and analyze the relationship between the electromagnetic force, the short-circuit current and the air gap size. By Analyzing the dynamic characteristics of moving iron core, different short-circuit currents influence on the velocity and displacement of the moving iron core was gained.

The coordination between protective devices is the process of determining the most appropriate timing of power interruption during abnormal conditions in the power system. The aim of this work is to coordinate the protection of the 33/11 kV power distribution substation in Iraq using the CYME 7.1 software package. In this paper overcurrent and earth fault relays are simulated in two cases, with time delay setting and instantaneous setting, to obtain the Time Current Characteristics (TCC) curves for each Circuit Breaker (CB) relay of Al-Karama substation (2×31.5 MVA, 33/11 kV) in Babil distribution network. The short circuit current at each CB is calculated and accordingly, the protection coordination for Al-Karama substation has been simulated. The TCC curves have been obtained in two cases for overcurrent and earth fault relays; in a case with time delay setting and in the case with the instantaneous setting. The setting takes into consideration the short circuit current at the furthest point of the longest outgoing feeder and the shortest outgoing feeder.

The nanoscale optoelectronic properties of materials can be especially important for polycrystalline photovoltaics including many sensor and solar cell designs. For thin film solar cells such as CdTe, the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current are especially critical performance indicators, often varying between and even within individual grains. A new method for directly mapping the open-circuit voltage leverages photo-conducting AFM, along with an additional proportional-integral-derivative feedback loop configured to maintain open-circuit conditions while scanning. Alternating with short-circuit current mapping efficiently provides complementary insight into the highly microstructurally sensitive local and ensemble photovoltaic performance. Furthermore, direct open-circuit voltage mapping is compatible with tomographic AFM, which additionally leverages gradual nanoscale milling by the AFM probe essentially for serial sectioning. The two-dimensional and three-dimensional results for CdTe solar cells during in situ illumination reveal local to mesoscale contributions to PV performance based on the order of magnitude variations in photovoltaic properties with distinct grains, at grain boundaries, and for sub-granular planar defects.

In this paper, a new concept of short-circuit current (SCC) reduction for power distribution systems is presented and analyzed. Conventional fault current limiters (FCLs) are connected in series with a circuit breaker (CB) that is required to limit the short-circuit current. Instead, the proposed scheme consisted of the parallel connection of a current-controlled power converter to the same bus intended to reduce the amplitude of the short-circuit current. This power converter was controlled to absorb a percentage of the short-circuit current from the bus to reduce the amplitude of the short-circuit current. The proposed active short-circuit current reduction scheme was implemented with a cascaded H-bridge power converter and tested by simulation in a 13.2 kV industrial power distribution system for three-phase faults, showing the effectiveness of the short-circuit current attenuation in reducing the maximum current requirement in all circuit breakers connected to the same bus. The paper also presents the design characteristics of the power converter and its associated control scheme.
