Abstract: Double Wishbone suspension systems are by far the best choice of suspension systems recommended for sports vehicles. It is more stable and stiffer when compared to the other suspension geometries. In this report a brief study of how a double-wishbone suspension system acts under loading conditions when traveling at high speeds is presented, also the forces acting on its components are analysed, and post-processed results are discussed. The geometry of the whole suspension is designed on SolidWorks and analysis is performed on Ansys software. Further the results from the analysis are studied based on material selection and various analysis methods. Finally, the proposed suspension system is concluded safe to use when the values of Equivalent stress, Total Deformation, and Factor of Safety were measured and under threshold limits. An approximate simplified analytic solution is proposed for the one DOF (degree of freedom) static and dynamic displacements alongside the stiffness (dynamic and static) and damping coefficients (minimum and maximum/critical values) of a parallel spring-damper suspension system connected to a solid mass-body gaining its energy by falling from height h. The analytic solution for the prescribed system is based on energy conservation equilibrium, considering the impact by a special G parameter. The formulation is based on the works performed by Timoshenko (1928), Mindlin (1945), and the U. S. army-engineering handbook (1975, 1982). A comparison between the prescribed studies formulations and current development has led to qualitative agreement. Moreover, quantitative agreement was found between the current prescribed suspension properties approximate value - results and the traditionally time dependent (transient, frequency) parameter properties. Also, coupling models that concerns the linkage between different work and energy terms, e.g., the damping energy, friction work, spring potential energy and gravitational energy model was performed. Moreover, approximate analytic solution was proposed for both cases (friction and coupling case), whereas the uncoupling and the coupling cases were found to agree qualitatively with the literature studies. Both coupling and uncoupling solutions were found to complete each other, explaining different literature attitudes and assumptions. In addition, some design points were clarified about the wire mounting isolators stiffness properties dependent on their physical behavior (compression, shear tension), based on Cavoflex catalog. Finally, the current study aims to continue and contribute the suspension, package cushioning and containers studies by using an initial simple pre – design analytic evaluation of falling mass- body (like cushion, containers, etc.).

Steering and suspension systems of a motor vehicle have very important mutual connections that have direct influence on a vehicle’s steerability, stability, comfort and life expectancy. These mechanical and functional couplings cause an intensive interaction between the two mentioned vehicle systems on a geometrical, kinematical and dynamical level. This article presents a study on nonparametric identification of dynamic interaction between the steering and the suspension system of a passenger vehicle. A specific methodology for experimental research in on-road conditions was designed that was in line with the research objectives and the applied measuring system. Experimental data were acquired for a curvilinear drive, with different constant driving speeds and on different roads. A multiple input/multiple output model for identification of the vehicle dynamics system from the aspect of interaction between the steering and the suspension system was developed. The analysis of experimental data was realized with the selection of a corresponding identification model, decoupling of model inputs and conditioned spectral analysis. The results of the conditioned spectral analysis of experimentally obtained data records indicate the level of interaction between the observed input and output parameters of the steering and the suspension systems to be in the frequency range below 30 Hz.

The air suspension system has become more and more popular in heavy vehicles and buses to improve ride comfort and road holding. This paper focuses on the evaluation of the dynamic load reduction at all axles of a semi-trailer with an air suspension system, in comparison with the one using a leaf spring suspension system on variable speed and road types. First, a full vertical dynamic model is proposed for a tractor semi-trailer (full model) with two types of suspension systems (leaf spring and air spring) for three axles at the semi-trailer, while the tractor’s axles use leaf spring suspension systems. The air suspension systems are built based on the GENSYS model; meanwhile, the remaining structural parameters are considered equally. The full model has been validated by experimental results, and closely follows the dynamical characteristics of the real tractor semi-trailer, with the percent error of the highest value being 6.23% and Pearson correlation coefficient being higher than 0.8, corresponding to different speeds. The survey results showed that the semi-trailer with the air suspension system can reduce the dynamic load of the entire field of speed from 20 to 100 km/h, given random road types from A to F according to the ISO 8608:2016 standard. The dynamic load coefficient (DLC) with the semi-trailer using the air spring suspension system can be reduced on average from 14.8% to 29.3%, in comparison with the semi-trailer using the leaf spring suspension system.

Abstract This paper studies the construction of a compact one-dimension-sensing iscreased bandwidth photonic accelerometer using cascaded groups of continued sections of a 50 ng seismic mass each attached to the silicon beams of two under etched slot waveguide electrostatic phase shift elements acting as voltage-controlled adaptive-precision springs. The accelerometer sensitivity is shown to be significantly increased by applying equal electrode voltages. Simulation results indicate that the sensitivity dynamic range is about 76 dB combining both open-loop and closed-loop voltage control of the sensor. The operation bandwidth of the accelerometer may be increased up to 250 kHz due to the cascaded multi-section architecture of the sensor. This advantage gives significant relief to the limitation in bandwidth response of single section counterparts. The sensor may be designed to detect impact accelerations up to 104 ms−2 and yet can still be electrostatically driven to detect sub-gravitational accelerations. The application of negative feedback voltage control to hold the seismic mass at close distances from a standstill is shown to significantly increase the acceleration detection range. The construction uses all in-plane components based on a silicon-on-insulator template with 300 nm of silicon core thickness. The proposed electromechanical suspension system and the electric feeding arrangements are the most simple. The accelerometer performance is theoretically deterministic. The study is based on performing numerical analysis for the electromechanical suspension system. The waveguides are simulated utilizing the VPIphotonics industry standard. Applications may include the automobile and aerospace industries, underwater sonar, industrial ultrasonic detection, seismology predictions, and medical ultrasonography. Article Highlights The cascading of compact high-speed accelerometer sections allows increasing the bandwidth response of the proposed sensor by many folds compared to its single-mass single-section counterparts. The suspension structure is electrostatically controlled by two voltages enabling widely controlling the sensitivity and detection range of the accelerometer. The proposed accelerometer may fit wide applications achieving high detection speeds and super sensitivities utilizing a small footprint and power-efficient structure.
