Vinyl ester resin (VER) has excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and lower viscosity before curing. In this article low filled conductive composites were fabricated with expanded graphite (EG) and vinyl ester resin (VER). The influences of soaking time, rabbling intensity, the EG content and the coupling agent dosage on the electric conductivity were investigated. The results can provide good reference for the following bipolar plate researches.

Titanium alloys possess unique combination of good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance which make them an attractive material for application in many engineering areas. Along with these properties there are some disadvantages which can be eliminated successfully using different surface treatment methods. One of the most commonly used among them is anodizing. This article presents investigation of the results obtained from anodizing titanium alloy Ti-6Al-7Nb using sulphuric acid. The quality assessment and morphology of the anodized layer is made using a micro structural analysis, EDS analysis, XRD analysis and microhardness measurements.

Galvannealed steels are produced by reheating of Zinc-coated steels, in which the iron and the zinc are interdiffused to form Zn-Fe intermatallic compound. In recent years, application of galvannealed steel has increased due to its excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability and paintability. Galvannealed production requires strict control of processing conditions to obtain an optimal alloying degree in the coatings. The analysis of the alloying degree is very important since they are closely related to the corrosion and mechanical properties. This study is measurement of alloying degree of the galvannealed steel by using the XRD. Partial least squares (PLS) model is a powerful multivariate tool that has been successfully applied to the quantitative analysis of data in XRD. The alloying degree was determined by using PLS regression to a concentration accuracy of 0.2%. The XRD analysis and proposed PLS model can be successfully used to determine the alloying degree of industrially produced galvannealed steel.

Bipolar plates account for about 80% of the fuel cell stack weight. The use of low density and high strength conductive composites for making bipolar plates will result in a lighter and more compact fuel cell stack assembly. Light weight composites were developed based on a two component elastomeric silicone RTV matrix. However, two shortcomings of this composite material are low mechanical strength and relatively high permeability to gases. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new composite material which will overcome high permeability and low strength issues through the use of elastomer-plastic blends as the composite matrix. The elastomer-plastic blends consist of vinyl ester with either urethane elastomer or ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM) rubber. The chosen elastomers have higher tensile strength and lower gas permeability than silicone rubber. The elastomers will be blended with vinyl ester thermoset plastic to further enhance these characteristics. Synergistic conductive filler system developed in previous work will be used for the new composites to make them conductive. Compatibility of blends ranging in concentration from pure plastic to pure elastomeric composition will be presented along with in-plane electrical resistivity and mechanical properties.
