In this paper, thermal insulating bonding mortar has been produced by the spent polystyrene foam particles, cement, sand, tackifier and water etc. It shows that thermal insulation performance and compressive strength of thermal insulating bonding mortar are similar with those of aerated concrete by comparison tests. In this paper, the new wall is made by thermal insulating bonding mortar and aerated concrete blocks, and the results show the thermal insulating performance of this wall can be improved and its cold bridge impact can be eliminated too. Correspondingly, the energy saving effect of buildings can be improved rapidly.

In engineering practice, the most widely used roof insulation materials are expanded perlite, expanded vermiculite, extruded polystyrene board (XPS), expanded polystyrene board (EPS), foam glass block,rigid polyurethane foam insulation layer, and so on. These products have many advantages, such as light weight, high compressive strength, good integral property, convenient construction. But there are a lot of defects at the same time, such as bad fireproof performance and durability, environmental pollution, and so on. So we need an efficient roofing insulation materials to meet the growing needs of the roofing energy saving, energy saving roofing insulation board system of polyphenylene foam concrete just meet this demand, it has the characteristics of thermal insulation, lightweight and compressive resistance, waterproof and moistureproof, fire durable, and simple structure. Through the application of this new materials in practical engineering, the energy saving roofing insulation board will provide an efficient and practical material for future roof thermal insulation and energy saving.

This research aims to study the design and thermal insulation performance of detached houses in Taiwan through the analysis of 55 detached houses. The research shows that 85% of detached houses are built using reinforced concrete (RC) construction, and the rest mostly using lightweight steel framing (LSF) construction. The thermal insulation performance of envelope construction of RC housing is poorer than LSF housing. More than 80% of the case study sample could not meet the roof thermal insulation requirements of Taiwans latest regulations on housing building energy saving. The most commonly used thermal insulation materials are polystyrene board, glass wool and rock wool, which are nearly all applied in LSF housings for the internal thermal insulation layer or the structural body layer of envelope construction. Polystyrene board has the widest range of use, including both internal and external thermal insulation layers of the envelope construction. If improving thermal insulation performance of the common envelope construction concluded from case study samples to meet Taiwans latest regulations on housing building energy saving, of the savings on air-conditioning energy during the summer could potentially be 11.5%. However, above improvement project is not economically beneficial due to the too long payback period.

Phase change materials (PCMs) can be used for thermal energy storage and temperature regulation during phase change, and have broad application prospects in energy-efficient use and energy saving. The compatibility between traditional phase change materials and building materials is too bad to combine in building energy conservation. Therefore, the new phase change materials have become a research focus in the field of phase change energy storage in buildings. Traditional dwellings in Shanxi province have a poor insulation performance. This paper focused on improving their winter indoor temperature. The measurement is using cement expanded perlite mortar and polyethylene plastic foam board as thermal insulation materials to transform outer walls, in combination with Autodesk Ecotect Analysis software to calculate temperature variation. Result shows that our transform method can increase interior temperature effectively.
