In modern aircraft, energy supply management has become a critical matter, since many aboard electrical loads have to be supplied, especially those related to flight safety. However, at the same time, the size and weight of electrical generators must be limited because of their on-board installation. In this paper, the Mixed Integrated Linear Programming (MILP) methodology has been used to formulate the Supervisor definition of the direct current (DC) microgrid (MG) on-board system with an extension for the programmable loads. Due to the problem of dimension increase, two methods have been presented and tested to perform optimal energy management (EM) aboard an aircraft: the Branch and Bound (B&B) and the Linear Regression Approximation (LRA). Finally, numerical simulations and results have been provided to validate the proposed optimization methodologies, according to the dimensions and the complexity of the problem.

Abstract Hēi diào ‘to turn black’ (黑掉) denotes a change-of-state meaning, but in social media, it has a special pragmatic use that emphasizes “bad consequences” following an uncooperative act, whether right or wrong. This metaphorical and new transitive use of hēi diào, which is unique among netizens, has changed the literal status of hēi ‘black’ to other additional accomplishment/achievement meanings. Our study examined the expression hēi diào using data from a social media corpus, the PTT Bulletin Board System. We also analysed all the constructions of hēi diào and similar [V diào (掉)] patterns in the corpus. Unlike most previous work, which analysed the uses of [V diào] only, our study observed pragmatic connotations of hēi diào in social media—uses that only materialized in certain contexts.

The article discusses and presents the formulation of problems of inter-project unification of on-board systems in the development of modifications of spacecraft that are part of space systems for remote sensing of the Earth. It is shown that when developing a complex of advanced space systems, it is possible to partially combine unified on-board systems and finished products, which, under given constraints, provides a minimum of total costs. The formulation of the main task of inter-project unification of spacecraft for remote sensing of the Earth using finished products and partially unified on-board systems and a special case of the problem — conducting an economically justified inter-project unification from completely unified on-board systems (aggregates) of promising modifications of spacecraft is given. The initial data and limitations for solving the main and particular problems are determined. The tasks are presented in a deterministic setting. The concept of optimality of the choice of areas of unification of each on-board system is formulated, which is characterized by the minimum of a criterion having an additive structure, this is the total economic effect for areas of unification. It is believed that the analysis of the results of solving the problems of inter-project unification in the development of promising modifications of spacecraft will reveal the directions of inter-project unification of those on-board systems for which it is most appropriate; to formulate the fundamental principles of modernization of space systems and creation of modifications of spacecraft for remote sensing of the Earth in the planned period.

We investigate whether firms with the presence of female on its board of commissioners and board of directors are associated with higher dividend policy. This paper uses Indonesian setting as a country with a dual board system implying that the role of board of commissioners and board of directors is explicitly separated. Using panel data on 525 publicly listed firms in Indonesia between 2011 and 2018, we find that the women's presence has different impacts on the dividend policy depending on their role as an executive or non-executive on the board. Female directors are negatively associated with cash dividend payments, while female commissioners positively impact dividend payment in the case of family-controlled firms only. Our results contribute to the literature on board gender diversity by showing different roles and behavior of boards in each tier in the corporate dividend policy, thus providing insights on corporate governance in a two-tiered board system in developing countries.

We investigate whether political independent supervisory boards (political I-SBs) help companies to reduce their corporate risks in the setting of Indonesian two-tier board system. This study is different from other studies in several ways. First, while most prior studies examine the effectiveness of independent boards in one-tier board setting, we use dual board system. This system promotes the strategic role of political I-SBs. Second, we use two measures of corporate risks: operating and market risks. Based on 1,176 firm-year observations for operating risk analysis and 1,254 firm-year observations for market risk analysis, we find that firms with political I-SBs have lower operating and market risks than firms with non- politically connected independent SBs. We also control for endogeneity problem using GMM (Generalized Method of Moments) method, and the results are still consistent.

Expansion joints on bridges should accommodate cyclic movements to minimize imposition of secondary stresses in the structure. However, these joints are highly susceptible to severe and repeated vehicular impact that results their inherent discontinuity. In this paper, a portable on- board system including accelerometers and a drive recorder to evaluate the vehicular contact force on bridge joints is proposed. First, from the acceleration responses of the vehicle, the contact force exerted on the road surface is estimated from a half-car model by Kalman Filter. Next, extraction of the expansion joints is performed by object detection from videos taken by the drive recorder. Finally, a relative comparison of the contact forces acting on joints is performed, with location identification on the map. The proposed system benefits to utilize the dynamic contact forces results from on-board system to detect the potential risky joints more precisely and efficiently.
