Experimental Investigation on Mechanical Behavior of Moso Bamboo Vascular Bundles

Bamboo is a typical natural fiber reinforced composite material with superior mechanical strength and toughness. As a typical hierarchical material, the macroscopic properties of bamboo are determined by its microscopic structure. The vascular bundles are the reinforce phase in bamboo composite. There was little research on the variation of mechanical properties of bamboo vascular bundles. In this work, the mechanical properties of Moso vascular bundles along the axial direction were investigated by tensile test. It is shown that the longitudinal Young’s modulus and strength of the Moso vascular bundles are linearly increased from inner zone to outer surface.

Take advantages of concrete to improve the stiffness of fiber reinforced composite material(GFRP), reference to the existing dimensions of concrete-filled steel tube pole, applicate GFRP-concrete structure in 35 kV transmission line. Change the various parameters of the poles in ANSYS, compare the maximum deformations and the maximum stresses of GFRP tube-concrete pole and concrete-filled steel tube pole. Results show that different parameters have different impacts on the mechanical properties of the poles, suitable parameters of GFRP tube-concrete pole were got and the technical specifications of the application of GFRP in various voltage levels should be perfected.

Research on the use of natural fibers as replacement to man-made fibre in fiber reinforced composites have received more interest and opened up further industrial possibilities. Natural fibre presents many advantages compared to synthetic fibers which make them attractive as reinforcements in composite material. They come from abundant and renewable resources, which ensures a continuous fibre supply and a significant material cost saving to the plastics, automotive and packaging industries. The paper reviews the previous and current research works published in the field of natural fiber reinforced composite material with special reference in mechanical properties of the natural fiber reinforced composite.

In this paper, we extend our previous 2D connected-tube marked point process (MPP) model to a 3D connected-tube MPP model for fiber detection. In the 3D case, a tube is represented by a cylinder model with two spherical areas at its ends. The spherical area is used to define connection priors that encourage connection of tubes that belong to the same fiber. Since each long fiber can be fitted by a series of connected short tubes, the proposed model is capable of detecting curved long tubes. We present experimental results on fiber-reinforced composite material images to show the performance of our method.
