Synthesis of LiFe1-xGdxPO4/C with (x = 0.01; 0.05; 0.07) have been carried out using a solid-state method from LiH2PO4, Fe2O3, Gd2O3, and Carbon. Al reactant are mixed and mashed with a ball milling for 8 hours, then heated at 80°C for 2 hours to evaporate free water. To complete the reaction, the sample then was sintered at two different temperature; first at 350°C for 6 hours and continue at 830°C for 10 hours under Argon gas (Ar) atmosphere. The sintered powder was characterized by XRD to determine the structure and phase purity. Sample LiFe1-xGdxPO4/C (x = 0.01; 0.05; 0.07) was adopted orthorhombic crystal structure and pnma space group, and no impurities detected. In general, the lattice parameter decreases with increasing Fe concentration, because of the size of the Fe3+ ion is smaller than that Gd3+ ion. Conductivities of LiFe0.93xGd0.07PO4/C, LiFe0.95Gd0.05PO4/C and LiFe0.99Gd0.01PO4/C are 2.17 x 10-4 S/cm, 1.54 x 10-4 S/cm, and 2.02 x 10-4 S/cm, respectively.

The magnetic properties of Ba2FeMoO6 (BFMO) double perovskite are investigated. BFMO samples were prepared by solid state reaction method through compression. Magnetic properties are influenced by electron environments of the Fe3+ and Mo5+ ions within the perovskite structure. BFMO sintered at 800 oC exhibited the largest hysteresis loop at 50 K. In addition, the values of Ms and Mr indicate ferromagnetic behaviour in BFMO ceramics sintered at 800 oC for different times up to 10 hours. Using the Curie-Weiss law fitting to investigate μeff~30μB high spin of Fe and Mo, and negative θ present the antiferromagnetic characteristics of the BFMO sample.

3Y-TZP powder has been successfully synthesized by gel solid-state method. The structural phases of powder particles were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and the morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The average size of grains was 230 nm. The sintering behavior, mechanical properties and microstructure of 3Y-TZP ceramics sintered by this powder were investigated. The experiment results showed that the mechanical properties of ceramics were excellent.

ABSTRACTComposites based on Nb-Si are attractive candidates for use as structural materials at the very high temperatures required for future aircraft engines. The composites described were produced by directional solidification, which gives a microstructure consisting of Nb dendrites with an Nb3Si-Nb eutectic. The aim of this paper is to provide a detailed characterization of precipitates observed in the Nb dendrites in both binary and higher-order alloys. The precipitates possess the Nb3Si stoichiometry, but not the stable Nb3Si structure. The precipitates form a metastable orthorhombic crystal structure which is related to the Nb matrix via a simple orientation relationship.

Abstract X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy techniques were used to study the structure and hyperfine interactions of multiferroic Aurivillius compounds Bim+1Ti3Fem-3O3m+3. Samples were synthesized by two methods, that is, the solid-state sintering at various temperatures and mechanical activation in a high-energy ball mill. The compounds were obtained from a mixture of three polycrystalline powder oxides, that is, TiO2, Fe2O3 and Bi2O3. At room temperature, the Aurivillius compounds are paramagnetic materials with orthorhombic crystal structure. The c lattice parameter of the unit cell depends linearly on the m − number of layers with perovskite-like structure. Based on the Mössbauer studies, it is concluded that the hyperfine interactions parameters do not change with m number.
