Pulsed magnetic field was first employed in the study on MgB2 superconductors. Superconductivity properties and microstructures of Zn and SiC doped MgB2 were discussed in this paper. The superconductors showed different superconductivities after magnetic sintering. Critical current density and flux pinning force were relevant to the dopants properties in MgB2. Grains in the pulsed magnetic processed MgB2 matrix were smaller than those in the normal processed one. The refinement microstructures have caused the critical current density (Jc) anisotropy in both the Zn and SiC doped MgB2.

Ag -sheathed ( Bi 1.6 Pb 0.4) Sr 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 10( Bi –2223) high temperature superconductor tapes with 0.1 wt% nano Cr 2 O 3 were fabricated using the powder-in-tube method. The effects of intermediate rolling and sintering temperature on the transport critical current density (Jc) under self-field and applied magnetic field were studied. The X-ray patterns showed a dominant Bi –2223 phase (~80%). A decrease in Jc in applied magnetic field, parallel or perpendicular to the sample wide surface was observed for all tapes. Intermediate rolling improved the self-field Jc(T=77 K ) of the tapes by 25%. Both Jc versus applied field curves and normalized pinning force density Fp/Fp max versus applied field curves showed that the pinning strength was significantly enhanced with thermo-mechanical treatments. SEM micrographs showed improvements in the grain alignment of tapes with intermediate rolling. Enhancement in Jc was observed in the nano Cr 2 O 3 added tapes.

ABSTRACTMultilayers of Y1Ba2Cu3O7-y/Y1Ba2(Cu1−xNix)3O7-ysuperconducting thin films have been grown epitaxially on (100) ZrO2 substrates using a pulsed laser deposition technique. The thickness of the Y1Ba2Cu3O7-y layer was varied from 60 Å to 900 Å and the thickness of the Y1Ba2(Cu1−xNix3O7-y layer was varied from 60 A to 100 A to determine the effect of the Ni-doped layers on the superconducting properties. Variations of critical current density were investigated as a function of temperature in magnetic fields up to 5 T. Magnetic field dependence of normalized critical current density, Jc(H)/Jc(O), is improved by the growth of Ni-doped multilayer structures, possibly due to an increase in flux pinning force.

The relationship between critical current density (Jc) and pinning energy (Up) in partial melted superconductors was investigated. The partial melted Sm-Ba-Cu-O superconducting bulks were composed of SmBa2Cu3Ox (Sm-123) superconductor and Sm2BaCuOy (Sm-211) insulator. The pinning force and the pinning energy of the superconductor were measured by a system combining an electronic balance and permanent magnet. The pinning energy and the Jc of the samples were influenced by crystalline orientation. The Jc of the samples depends on the pinning energy. However, in the partial melting process, changes in retention temperature altered the Jc values but had little effect on the value of the pinning energy. The results indicated that Jc was influenced by the dispersion of the insulator acting as a pinning center with in the superconducting bulks.

AbstractBulk YBa2Cu3O7‐x (YBCO) wires and tubes were fabricated by an extrusion technique. Critical current density (Jc) was measured as a function of applied magnetic field at 77 K and was found to decrease significantly in fields below 100 G. Jc was dependent on specimen geometry. In addition, when a concentric magnetic field was generated by passing a current though a copper wire, the external field from the wire could interfere constructively or destructively with the magnetic field produced by current in a YBCO tube. The change in electrical properties with magnetic field has been attributed to weak‐link behavior at the grain boundaries. Batch‐to‐batch differences in the field dependence of Jc imply the possibility of reducing the dependence by processing modifications.
